  2. Yeeeehaaaaa! I can't decide which is worse "a Cabinet of all the talents" or going back to the "SNP/Labour alliance" - someone better tell Keir & Anas about the latter.
  3. Given his savvy I half expect to see him declaring for BoJo!
  4. Might be off-topic but would the new PM be bound to honour Truss's U-Turn on the Pension Triple Lock or would that be back on the table?
  5. Bit off topic but what is the clamour for Ben Wallace apart from being whiter than RS? I had absolutely no recollection of his time as an MSP and when I looked him up he'd done very little apart from making a few mildly anti LGBT remarks (about them joining the forces) which he now says he regrets. Seems very much a "countries going to the dogs" Golf Club/Rotarians Tory". Is he just happy with an easy job (for a Tory) as Defence Secretary, rattling his sabre once in a while and saying "we must support our brave Ukranian brothers and sisters"?
  6. RS still got 42.4% this summer, I can't see many of them switching to BJ which would leave BJ needing to get 85-90% of Truss supporters. Tory party members seem a pretty extreme bunch and I suppose the Truss segment are the extreme of the extreme, but Shirley Nott?
  7. His ego, he hasn't officially declared yet because he doesn't want to "officially" lose, if he's not 100% certain he'll win I don't see him taking it to a ballot. I think this applies to Sunak as well but to a lesser extent. Having said all that the geriatocracy that makes up the Tory party membership are clearly batshit crazy so Johnson may well feel he has nothing to lose.
  8. You may be right but we're down the looking glass here! What are the odds on Sunak looking at the clusterfuck and saying me & the missus are taking our £730M and heading for Vegas, yeah that's right Vegas Baby!
  9. Declared backers as of 12:03 Sunak 104 Johnson 50 Mordaunt 22 That's 176 of the current Tory MPs with 179 still to declare, if Sunak gets over half (and that looks a certainty) I reckon Johnson will give way "for the good of the country". Shame, but as I said above the Tories are committed to AusterityMax and a GE as far off as thay can manage so I don't reckon it'll make much difference. ************** Frost declaring for Sunak must be the "Et tu Brutus, then fall Caeser" moment....
  10. The Presidential Factor is an increasingly significant factor in our GEs but IMO Boris maxed out in 2019 - would anyone who didn't vote Boris in 2019 be liable to switch on the basis of his spell in charge? "Got the big calls right" is the mantra of his fanboys (both sexes).
  11. Boris Johnson is the Tories "Hail Mary" pass. My opinion is that it makes little difference who wins as whoever they choose the plan will be AusterityMax and to hang on till Oct 24 in the hope that enough people will have forgotten the last 6 weeks (or 14 years as it will be by then).
  12. Truss is 47-y-o set to get £115k p.a. Say she lives to be 80 that'll be £4M or £90k per day in office - nice work if you can get it. Won't be feeling sorry for her any time soon...
  13. Which thread to put this in.... Just watched a Politics Live on BBC2 and saw the two Conservatives (one MP, one SPAD) on the panel get away with the claim that the Jeremy Hunt reset puts the Conservatives at the centre of British politics unchallenged.
  14. I found Wallace's endorsement of Johnson quarter-hearted, if that. I know it's a bit Yes Minister but I can see Wallace's people doing work behind the scenes over the weekend and Wallace reluctantly saying on Monday that "for the countries interest, yadda, yadda, yadda..." he's decided to run - simple tictacs for me.
  15. Hilarious! Sane Tories (oxymoron) must realize BJ is a liability, but hopefully enough of their MPs share the desperate hope that he can repeat the 2019 Red Wall trick. I think that given the chance the geriatocracy that represents the party membership would vote for him. Hilarious!
  16. 100 supporters is to cut out BJ and favour Sunak, however I just checked and in the summer Dishi only got 88 votes in Round 1 and 101 in Round 2. It'd be funny if Sunak (or anyone else) failed to make 100 but I'd bet on RS being the only candidate to get 100 nominations, even if the 22 committee has to give out Chinese burns.
  17. Why would that be, Hollyrood elections will still be held using PR.
  18. I have no recollection of him from his stint as a list MSP, but find "reasons that remain unclear" intruiging.
  19. They could hold closed door meetings at the weekend and fudge a result.
  20. Down the rabbit hole now.... Badenoch & Braverman to run for the job.... ************************* Kemi Badenoch is also likely to put herself forward. An ally said: Suella Braverman is widely expected to stand to be Tory leader, although Sir John Hayes, the former minister who is a confidante and adviser to the former home secretary, declined to say if she plans to stand. “Suella has clearly got a big future in the Conservative party and is widely recognised as a standard bearer for authentic traditional Toryism,” he said.
  21. It's Sunak or Mordaunt unless the party want Hunt to take the bullett when they lose the next GE.
  22. I swear on the wet head of my first case of gonnorhea it is her ugly voice that I long to hear.....
