  1. Shane McGowan in hospital, the odds on Fairytale of NY being Xmas No. 1 are now substantially less than 18/1.
  2. I see Labour have taken in more money in political donations over the last few months than the Tories- meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
  3. Ida thought a second chamber would be relatively easy to establish - same powers as current HoL, 300 members selected by PR of votes cast in Scotland, Wales, NI & English regions at GEs, simple to put in a manifesto. Main drawback would be the people chosen would be "party hacks" - same difference really. As I say easy to implement and you could have some sorta review after 10 years to see if it was working.
  4. George Galloway in the Daily Express Strange bedfellows....
  5. Take away Scotland's land mass and prob'ly more importantly territorial waters then most of what England (& Wales) would have left if us & NI left would be adjacent to the EU so their delusion of still being a world power would be gone. Oh and they'd have to move their nukes down south which'd probably be unpopular too. ...and I suppose there's still the issue of oil to be considered. Also, it's important to understand the Barnett Formula is not a gift it's an acknowledgement of the fact that government spending is skewed towards the SE of England.
  6. F'kin hell was just under 9 months since Emgland crawled to a 1-0 defeat against the West Indies.
  7. Shame. I still have my 125th anniversary top although some of the stitching has come loose, still after 20 years you can't complain.
  8. That Gerry Baker he was a waste of space too.... You got his autograph?
  9. OK, I'll go back on what I said in the last post. Tell me what you think is "good money" and if one of them goes for said sum then I'll admit I was wrong.
  10. Final comment - this is an opinion I've held since Paul Fenwick played with us.
  11. None of the players we currently have will be with us 4 years from now at the next WC, probably not even in 2 years at the Euros, Pan-African/Asian tournaments, in such a transient environment I think these players are more trouble than they're worth - if I'm in a minority of one so be it
  12. Nope I wouldn't have signed any of the Antipodean trio, Ayunga's a false equivalence I'm sure there's plenty of players qualified to play for European countries who would improve our squad.
  13. I note that Sunak's "Climate Czar" Chris Skidmore has announced that he will not be seeking a new seat after his has disappeared in the boundary reshuffle. Quite a few youngish Conservative MPs seem to be dusting down their CVs presumably in the assumption that the next election won't be kind to them. Even funnier is the rumours that Red Wall Tory MPs are talking to Nigel Farage, I don't anticipate them forming any sort of coalition but I expect it will ensure that the "red meat" policies will keep coming.
  14. IMO for a club of our size to have a key player from a different Confederation the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. Normally I would be keen to hold onto our better players as long as possible even if it costs us financially but not in this case - nothing personal. A pity because Baccus has been one of the more interesting surnames to play for us but I say best if we let him deliver ecstasy and frenzied states elsewhere.
  15. Disappointed to see Baccus get on the field today, having internationalists who pay for a team from a different continent whose matches are out of synch with our domestic program is more bother than it's worth get him on the transfer list ASAP.
  16. No he's using his knowledge of history - Ireland had a full scale rebellion in 1798 followed by a century or so of lower level insurgency before the 1916 rebellion, totally different to Scotland. Not the first time your tendency to be a drama queen has won out.
  17. Says the man who should know about unmet pledges.
  18. IIRC the criteria for calling Indyref2 was YES consistently polling 55-60%. There was a short lived spike immediately after the Brexit referendum but for the past 4/5 years YES has generally been polling just under 50%. It's important to see the referral to the UKSC for what it was, an attempt to embarrass the UK government and a ploy to galvanize support for Independence - a gamble but in the face of the "You had your chance, so just stay in your box" attitude of the Unionist parties there was little alternative. So let's roll the dice...
  19. Baroness Arlene Foster is launching a new focus group to promote the benefits of the Union to folks in NI & Scotland - should please our more staunch posters.
  20. Are you sure? IIRC during the Brexit process (2019ish) polls showed 60% of Leave voters thought that Scottish Independence was a worthwhile price to pay.
