  1. They probably will be hitting me next April. Not that I'm too bothered because I don't avoid anything like the amount of tax the DAB did.
  2. This made me laugh. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/mar/17/dutch-pm-compares-theresa-may-to-monty-python-limbless-knight
  3. How much of the 9.3billion is tax and how much is borrowing No idea. Actually, looking at the figures in the link, they don't even include money from the structural fund so I think I'll need some more investigation. That's the problem with taking what folk on here say as fact. If you don't know the sources and dig deeper into them they're not much use. Including the link I posted. Much like a headline figure on the side of a bus.
  4. Somebody in the Leave campaign didn't do a very good job in explaining that they are net beneficiaries.
  5. It does happen in Scotland as well. The money gets spent where the party in power reckons they'll get the most votes back. Happens in the UK where the party in power will channel money where they reckon it'll buy them votes. The EU doesn't have that problem. Very few folk give a shite enough about European elections so I assume that is why they don't have to buy votes. That would be one pro for staying in the EU. Possibly not enough to change my mind but another to chalk up in the EU's favour.
  6. Net contribution is the amount we pay net of the money we get back. Exactly. We get more than half the money back that we pay in. That seems like a good deal. Except that we could argue that it wastes a lot on paper shufflers and if we cut out the middleman we could just spend the same amount in those areas without the money merry-go-round. Not sure we would though. Then the argument is that the EU spends our money more fairly than the UK government. Wales needs it more than London for instance.
  7. https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-7886 According to the link we have a net contribution of £8.9bn but according to your map we get £9.3 bn back. Seems like a good deal to me. ETA and why has the north of Scotland been cut off your map? Typical central belt bias.
  8. You might have mistaken my posts for an argument. I don't come on here to argue. Just for information and entertainment. If you're looking for an argument you've chosen the wrong poster. I'd suggest one of the many folk on here who take all this shite seriously.
  9. I'll not argue semantics over what you're calling a fact but there's certainly been a lot of companies blaming Brexit for a lack of investment. Uncertainty does that. Whether it's Brexit or other global factors. You can never tell exactly how much the many other things have influenced the decisions. Much like the car industries pulling out was blamed entirely on Brexit in some quarters ignoring the changing world for diesel.
  10. Quite possibly but even that wouldn't guarantee we'd be in a better position given the amount of time investment can take to pay back. We also don't know how much the global uncertainty has affected our economy. There are so many factors to consider. I'm never certain about anything. Far more questions than answers. That's why I come on here to find out what other folk believe to be the facts. So many folk on here seem to know for https://www.cnbc.com/2016/06/26/goldman-sachs-forecasts-uk-recession-in-2017-downgrades-global-growth-forecasts.html but later. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/sep/09/city-banks-revise-brexit-doom-and-gloom-forecasts
  11. No-one can say for certain. Only guess. You can only know what did happen.
  12. https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/06/project-fear-two-years-on-six-brexit-predictions-that-failed-to-come-true/ Goldman Sachs predicted a recession by 2017 according to this link. And JP Morgan predicted an independent Scotland with it's own currency. Fingers crossed for that.
  13. He's already got a Scottish cup winners medal. 2 by the end of this season hopefully.
  14. Anti Irish and Anti catholic. There can be no other reason to hate the loathsome wee c**t. Apparently.
  15. I don't need to read this thread to know that my two pet hates will already have been covered in detail. Folk who drop litter and folk who put their feet up in the seats in buses. Hanging's too good for them etc.
  16. You would have to grow the GDP at a faster rate and therefore increase the tax take without increasing the tax rate. Not an easy feat. You could also try to increase the tax rate on the wealthier without causing them to just f**k off to lower tax countries. Again not an easy feat. Austerity doesn't have to be the way though.
  17. If we wanted to balance the books then public spending would definitely have to come down, at least in the short term. Not sure why we'd want to be almost the only western country to live within our means. I see that the largest group in the poll will very soon be disappointed because it looks highly unlikely we will be voting this year. I'm still happy to wait the generation (20 years) I was promised. The vote was never about me and always about my daughter and her children. I still believe they would be better off in an independent country.
  18. I did notice that most of the coppers for our game against Rangers were of slightly bigger stature and wearing their riot gear uniform already (minus the helmets).
  19. I got the impression that the coppers back then enjoyed the fighting as much as the fans. Also in Dundee you got the choice of the cells or a kicking on the back of a van. Which was considerate of them.
  20. Pretty sure that Ireland used sterling for a transitional period after independence. Is there anything reason we couldn't do similar?
