what channels show Ice hockey and when dos the season start?

I've decided to take an interest in hockey since i Randomly bought NHL12, I've also decided that the NJ Devils are my team. i have a few questions. What Is Icing? What is Offsides? (think that has something to do with the puck being behind the player in possesion, not sure though)
