  1. Let's forget any notion of a new rink or arena. It's shocking Edinburgh cannot boast the same facilities of Coventry, Hull, Braehead etc, but it won't happen. We have to deal with what we have: MIR. Now, I'll be honest I'd love a new rink but when the game is on I don't care a jot for facilities, I'm concentrating on the game.
  2. I don't see there being any pro hockey in Edinburgh next season, or any season any time in the future. Looks like I'll have to kick that nasty habit of going to matches and replace it with ESPN.
  3. Tonights result Edinburgh 0 - Sheffield 9. What a mess.
  4. Oh lord yes. The man is Owner, Coach, GM, PR person and it's all too much. Scott Neil is a good guy, and we have a lot to him to be grateful for, but he simply cannot do all this by himself. The Caps setup is amateur at best. In an ideal scenario someone would come in, buy the club and leave Scott be GM leaving someone else to do the coaching, PR and attracting sponsors. However, there's rumours there's been many offers made and he's knocked them all back. There's a feeling that he has no intention of selling the club he started himself to anyone.
  5. Newcastle vipers 10 - Edinburgh Capitals 2. This is the beginning of the end.
  6. Caps lose two more imports. Unlikely to last the season, let alone start next season.
  7. Yeah it's me. Almost immediately after posting it I regretted doing so, but too late to take it back. It wasn't just the fact we lost heavily that was getting at me, but it feels now like I'm watching the slow and painful death of a team I support. It was the dawning realisation that for the rest of the reason matches like that will start becoming the norm. Not sure how aware you are of our situation, but as well as losing players permanently we were further reduced in numbers by illness and injury - including our import goalie Scott Reid and GB international defenceman Kyle Horne. 8-0 is a walloping, and was a more than accurate reflection on the match itself. Clan played well enough without streching themselves too much, and we did as well as we could considering how short benched we were. We didn't even have enough players to do full line changes so it would have been hard for the players to settle into.
  8. No. And sigh. End of the streak, oh well. Time to start a new one, no time like the present! I haven't watched last nights game yet, but I'll probably watch it tonight. Always hard to watch a full match the next day when you know you've lost already.
  9. I'm going to bookmark this thread and we'll revisit it in January
  10. Big one tonight for the Pens - looking to extend the current winning streak to 13 against the Flyers. And to think some Pens fans were calling for Bylsma earlier in the season. Shows that some fans are never happy in ANY sport. Amusing to see OV and the Capitals get their asses handed to them on a plate against the Rangers the other night, however.
  11. Glad you enjoyed the game and the experience! A game which goes like Saturday's and is won at the death is hugely exciting, I wished all games were like that. I suppose you could decide most regular season games are pointless if all you're trying to do is scrape top 8 to qualify for the playoffs but it's not the be-all and end all. In the UK, winning the league championship is just as important (and probably more important) than the playoff title unlike the NHL where the Stanley Cup (ie playoff title) is much, much more important than the President's Trophy (ie league title). Also, because the way the playoff fixtures work out you want to finish as high up the top 8 as possible since 8th plays 1st, 7th playes 2nd etc. To get an easier quarter final your league placing over the season is important. As for the repetetiveness, sure I suppose it can be. But playing Nottingham twice in one weekend isn't the norm, and two home matches on consecutive days also isn't the norm - usually the Capitals play away on Saturday and at home on Sunday and to be honest by Sunday I'm usually so desperate for my fix I don't care who we play! But from time to time the 2 home match scenario does raise it's head. As for the challenge cup, it's a seperate competition but some league fixtures do double up as cup fixtures otherwise we'd end up with more of that repetetiveness you mentioned since only Elite teams are in the competition anyway. Glad you had fun, and hopefully you'll be back soon!
  12. Didn't see that 8-3 coming. Still, it papers over the fact it's been a disasterous season so far and I still think Elite League Ice Hockey may soon be a thing of the past in Edinburgh.
  13. I'd put money on you getting a 6 point weekend. We're seriously struggling this season, and I fear for the future of Elite hockey in Edinburgh.
  14. You've firmly walloped that nail on it's tungsten tipped head.
  15. Two thingss: The Bruins are one of the better NHL teams (my opinion) And 5-1 in the grand scheme of hockey isn't that big a deal. Especially when a multimillion dollar outfit like the Bruins come up against a ragtag collective of AHL\ECHL castoffs playing in a nation where hockey gives "minority sport" a whole new meaning.
  16. So. This Sunday. The BIG one. Yes, I'm talking about Edinburgh v Braehead for the first ever time. Of course, Braehead will be red hot favourites but the Caps have showed recently that we're no pushovers. The Vipers gooned it up yesterday, and we let them while we helped ourselves to five PowerPlay goals and a 6-1 victory. This promises to be a good one.
  17. Edinburgh beat Newcastle 6-1. Fantastic result, fantastic performance. It's a shame we can't always be this good.
  18. Tolerated, not exactly legal. Especially since fighting can land you a major + game penalty if you're the instigator/agressor. And hooray. The CONSOL Center finally sees a Pens win. Even if it was an OT victory over the Islanders.
  19. The Consol Energy Arena still yet to see a Pens victory.
  20. The Clan have started really well, not too suprising as they have some real financial backing. As usual the Caps will muddle their way through the start of the season, pick up in the middle after flirting with bankrupcy, finsh strongly but still exit the playoffs at the first hurdle. Still love it though!
