  1. Very unusual for us, as with many teams, but most of our new signings look very good and have strengthened the squad no end. The two Australians have easily adapted and are improving every game after some fitness issues. Baccus in particular is a ball winner with a great motor - runs non-stop for the 90 mins chasing down everything. Strain is a great asset at wing back. Both hoping to be in the Aussie World Cup Squad. However Ayunga is the icing on the cake. Big, strong, holds the ball up well and runs at people on his mazy attacks. And Main (I know, I laughed as well) is a totally different player under Robinson. Last season, like many Buddies, I wanted Main punted.

Added to that are two more Internationalists in Gallagher and Carson. The squad looks stronger than it has been in years with loads of options on the bench now instead of the bench full of Academy players last year.

Game will be too early for Gogic, and last season he would be second name of the team sheet after Ronan, and even when he is fit may not be an automatic choice.

Looking good for us but Hibs with Boyle will be a tough test. It is about time we had some Home wins as our home form over the last couple of seasons has been tragic.

  2. Just skimmed the last few pages. What a fcuking shambles.
Ross may end up getting sacked sooner or maybe later, but the notion of doing so after four league games is fcuking insane!
Killie was a fair enough performance for a team just scraped together.
Livi was clearly the players having eyes on AZ.
And the last two are horrendous but the players confidence has fairly obviously been shot by THAT result. It’ll take time to turn that around.
Wanting the manager sacked before September? You’re all quite quite mad.

Many St Mirren fans wanted Robinson sacked after our first 2 League games. But it has all gone quiet now. Fans should be ignored most of the time.

Ah right. That makes much more sense

We are making a big effort to try and increase the fan base as well as help those that cannot afford to regularly attend. The Club give away free tickets to youth clubs. The Supporter's Association (SMISA) buy a batch of season tickets that are handed around to different groups for each home game. And individual fans can donate to buy a ticket for a Buddie that cannot afford it.

    I’m a bit confused here

Is to buy a seat to keep it empty or will the ticket be donated to home fans who might want to come but perhaps couldn’t afford the cost?

Fans are buying extra tickets to be donated to groups that cannot afford to attend. The last home game tickets were donated to the Paisley Disability Resource Centre.

  5. When we signed Gogic on loan last season I wasn't that fussed. However Gogic proved to be a brilliant signing. He was playing DM and doing a brilliant job covering the back line and was also able to carry the ball forward in mazy runs. A real winner. Was gutted when he didn't sign on when the season ended. Thought he was moving to Utd. Don't know what happened there but Utd's loss is our gain. Delighted to have him back on board and Utd really missed a trick in not getting him on board when allegedly they had the chance.

  6. JR is the one who is laughing. Sacked by Sunderland and has one year left on his contract. Gets a big pay-off. Goes to Hibs. Has 3 years on his contract when he gets sacked. Gets a big pay off. Joins Utd. Realises getting sacked is a good thing - big payoff and can sit at home and write his children's books. Fucks up the first few games and awaits his payoff on a 2 year deal. Smart move.

There was no link up between the strikers on Saturday, they were so far apart and don’t like to pass to each other or create a space which doesn’t happen with Greive.

Totally agree. We were talking about that during the game. Ayunga had some great wee flick ons to nobody as Main was on the other side of the pitch. Main does a lot of work but Greive or Brophy would be a better partnership with Ayunga. And Ayunga is the first striker we have had in a long long time who can hold a ball up top.

  8. I like Ray Bradshaw on the show and he seems to have a genuine love for football ie he has mentioned being on tour somewhere in England and going to a random game but that is poor.
Even if he had no knowledge of the games you mention he surely knows they won the Scottish Cup in 87 which would get them into the following seasons Cup Winners Cup
I was more having a go a Ali de Foy. She fronts St Mirren TV every week and claims to be a great supporter being privileged to do the job. You would think some European night photos around the stadium would have given her a clue.

Most clubs mean accessing the community's money when the word community crops up. Whether that's via funding, sponsors or just directly from supporters.

There's very little altruism in football.

Times are changing. Many Clubs are now heavily involved in the community. I am not singling out my club as special but am referring to it as I know what they do. We have a charity foundation and a member of staff running it. Are having a team in the Kilt Walk next month to raise funds for local charities. The supporters sponsor season tickets to be used by various groups that cannot afford to attend games. We run fitness sessions for those needing/wanting to lose weight. We run a dementia support group. Have walking football sessions for those not so fit anymore. Have Street football coaching for local kids (1200 kids). The Club and supporters help with funding for a women's team and 4 girls teams at various levels. We have free pre-match entertainment for kids (bouncy castles, face painting etc). Last Home game we gave out free tickets to local Ukrainian families. We have regular Food Bank collections. Free Xmas meals in the stadium for those on their own. We are partly owned by the Kibble - one of Scotland's largest charities to help young people and young folk can get work experience at the Club (hospitality, maintenance etc). Our website has a Community section for latest community news.

As I previously commented many Clubs run similar initiatives. These things were unheard of 20 years ago.

  10. For the record I fully agree.
You know, I know and everyone else with any sort of experience in following St. Mirren know that in a defeat scenario, that's not going to happen though.
And for the record I am not suggesting we'll be pushing for Europe. However unlike under Stubbs, I think our signings have been decent and it's far too early to call to call for the manager's head.
  11. We have played 2 league games so far. First we were by far the better team and the second we were competing ok until the sending off/penalty. Far to early to talk about must win games.

SR has recruited some decent players and we have shown we can compete. I'll be giving them a chance before calling for SR's head.

Last season Ross County didn't win any of their first 10 matches and made it into the Top Six and just missed out on Europe. How about we back off and relax a wee bit.

  12. I haven't seen many games this season, so yesterday may have been an exception.
In the first twenty minutes, before Gallagher was sent off, I saw Erhahon fail to track back twice, give away a needless foul 20 yards out in a central position and pass the ball across the midfield directly to an Aberdeen player.
That's what he did last season.
I didn't see whether he improved or not, as I turned off after we went 2-0 down.
We desperately need Gogic or someone like him. If I were Robinson, I'd be on my knees begging him to come back. Unfortunately, I think we've spunked the "Gogic signing fund" on signing Gallagher.

Ethan has a great left foot and can pass. Defensively he is appaling. Fails to track back, doesn't close down and doesn't mark players. Looks lost when the opposition are attacking. I've seen an improvement in his work rate and attitude under Robinson but for a defensive midfielder he needs to learn how to defend (and tackle on his right side).
  13. Paisley artist John Byrne exhibition in Kelvingrove is £7.50

New Order tribute Band at the Bungalow in Paisley £11

Showcase cinema Paisley £9.75 for the most expensive ticket.

For each of the above I will be entertained; can buy a ticket at the venue or on-line; have access to decent toilets with hot water; won't be searched on entry. At one venue I can even have a pint. The others have cafes.

It is no surprise that non-diehards won't go to matches when they can have a far cheaper form of entertainment at a fraction of the cost. Only the diehards go to matches these days and that will slowly diminish as price rises give us all less spare cash. Clubs will not attract more potential fans at current admission prices.

  14. McGrath is a good player. His last season with us he rarely saw the ball, along with the rest of the midfield, as Jim's one and only tactic was a long ball to the wing backs pushed up the park. The midfield was redundant.

McGrath left us to a team who were settled and winning every week and won the League so there was no way he was going to walk in and change a winning team. Surprised he is not getting a chance this season to see what he can do as he was also a slow starter with us.

Good luck to him. Jim wasted him at the end.
