Was that you lot at the front of hospitality in the main stand?  That looks like quite a fun way of having a random day out.  Did Feargal Sharkey enjoy himself?

Your man Wilson did have another good game.  With his inelegant gait and black boots, I always think he looks like he forgot his kit and is having to play in his school shoes.  He makes a big difference for us though, and is a very important player.  Yesterday, he was the only one really trying to vary the passing when we were getting bogged down.

Yes indeed - that was us singing and trying to get the rest of the main stand going with the songs without much success. Everyone had a class day minus the efforts of a dobber train conductor in the evening who did his best to try and spoil a good day. Palmerston is a great classic ground and I'll definitely be back for a regular game at some point to stand on the terrace. I don't know where we'll go next year, but I'd happily come back again.

See if we could just grind out a point at pittodrie or st mirren then that could make all the difference. We've had to write away games off all season but just one performance and point before the split could be massive.

Surely to god we can't be that bad away from home all season

I do genuinely think that despite St. Mirren having very good form at home we've got a chance of beating them, especially if they've already got top six secured by that point. I have absolutely nothing scientific to back this up at all, just a gut feeling. If we can get a draw next weekend with our record at Pittodrie I'll be delighted.

Yesterday was probably the first we've shown that all season tbh. It's still going to be really tight I think

Agreed - usually we crumble at the first signs of pressure in the last 10-15 mins plus added time in the second half, but that was a really gritty win in the end. If the table stays the way it is right now we'll play County and Livi at home with United and Motherwell away. On current form County are beatable but it'll be tricky - same goes for Livi. As for the rest, very much depends on if we've decided that winning games away from home is something we can do. I have a good feeling about us right now but this will probably fluctuate from week to week.

  4. Missed this yesterday - when I got back from the game I was doing hospitality at the town had a good buzz about it with a good number of Killie fans still around. Really pleased for David Watson who should be first name on the teamsheet every game until the end of the season. Despite the early setback when Dorsett had a total brainfart and allowed Shankland to score, it seems like we were able to steady the ship and create a number of chances. It's pleasing to see the amount of decent set-pieces that we had, but we've got to figure out a way to convert these.

I see us taking nothing from the next two games (prove me wrong, kids, prove me wrong!) so with some good fortune we can hopefully be in this position going into St. Mirren away. Having the points cushion that we currently have is massive and if we can keep it the way it currently is then we're giving ourselves a really good chance of avoiding the bottom two places.

What was your "match day experience" like? Hope you had a good day out in the Gem of the South.

Very good - staff were great, meal was what you'd expect but with generous portions and the game was infinitely better than last year's snoozefest between Cowdenbeath and Stirling Albion. Plenty of booze into the mix and it was a smashing day, although the only other pub we went into was the Waverley for a pint before hospitality opened. I'll have to come back another time to cross a few more off my list.

Was also good to shout for Iain Wilson too, as a former Killie player who was very well-liked at RP it was good to see him stroll the game. I think he appreciated our songs throughout the game too, even if he seemed a bit confused about it until we met him in the lounge.

Leaving the train station heading into the Town Centre there's plenty of pubs en-route to Palmerston. The Waverley is right across from the top of the station, head up English St, pass the Cairndale (don't stop there), there's Dickies Bar in English St, then the Imperial in Queensberry St, (sports bar but no team colours allowed), the Hole I' the Wa' in High St,  Robert The Bruce (Weatherspoons) at the top of Buccleuch St., Cavens Arms (good food and real ale, no kids allowed ) further down Buccleuch St, then across the bridge on the way to Palmy there's The Spread Eagle, The Globe and The Salutation in Market Square, about 10 minute max walk from the ground. Bound to be something in that lot that fits the bill. Enjoy your day out.

Thanks very much for the recommendations - I'll put them to the guys and see what they fancy!

  7. Evening all - some pals and I are doing a hospitality day for Saturday's game against Peterhead and we're all excited for the day out. We're getting the train down in the morning and, having only been to Palmerston once before for a pre-season friendly between Queens and Killie, I'm looking for any recommendations for pubs before and after hospitality starts/ends. Every year we have a random draw at Christmas to decide where we're going, with the aim to cross off as many grounds as we can over the next few decades (provided we all live long enough for that, of course) so I'm hoping that it's a good game with a Queens win to boot!

...it's worth saying that last year we went to Cowdenbeath v Stirling Albion and it was without a doubt the singular worst game of football I've ever been to. We're not a hard bunch to please, so I have no doubt it'll be more fun this year.

I hope Clarke's instructions to the players that night are to "fa' aboot the place".

Play them at their own shan game.

To be fair I thought we were quite good at that last night - the ref gave us a reasonable amount of fouls that probably shouldn't have been fouls, with the Spanish also getting a few. Lots to happen between now and then, though.

They seem overly concerned a bout 'boos from the stands'.

Indeed - I, personally, thought it was tremendous from the north stand in particular with how sudden and loud the boos were when Porro (or anyone on that side of the park) got the ball. There's no doubt that the Tartan Army had a part to play in last night's win, and they definitely added to Porro and Joselu's frustrations. I have a feeling that Spain will be out for revenge when we meet them in the Autumn... But Clarke will have us focused and hopefully well-drilled enough to avoid being riled by the home fans.

@pub car king I really liked the one Tierney's wearing in your post (2017-2019), but we were constantly having to change it up - sometimes blue shorts, sometimes blue socks, sometimes both - when it was clearly just class in its original navy, white and red.

Agreed. I quite like how the shorts and socks were interchangeable with the away shorts and socks, but it was definitely best with dark blue shirt, white shorts and red socks. If I had my way, all Scotland home strips would be of that configuration - and I think that's another reason why the new 150th strip is my new favourite-ever Scotland kit.

Are we going back to the previous Scotland kit or unveiling another new one after this 3 game thing is over?

The women's team will wear it against Costa Rica on the 11th of April, and the men's team will wear  it against England on the 12th of September. Sadly, that's all we're getting from it unless there's a big about-turn which would be nice but won't happen.

The view behind the goals at Murrayfield is worse than anything at Hampden, IMO.

Hard agree - have been to Murrayfield for two events, one was Oasis in 2009 and one was Hearts v Killie in 2017. I was in the back row of the lower tier in the north stand (behind the goals) and the front row of seats was miles away from the grass pitch, let alone the distance from the grass to the goal line. Maybe that's not such a big deal for the rugby, but it wasn't great. Hampden is by no means perfect, but give me a game of football there any day over a game of football at Murrayfield.

I think this one of Clyde’s Harry Haddock has been posted before but it got me wondering when Scotland wore this shirt. Not sure if they wore it more than once but they v Hungary in December 1954. Scotland lost 2-4 in front of 113,146, no bad for a dreich freezing Wednesday afternoon. Looks like the pitch had been covered in straw. This was the first of 6 caps for Haddock. another Clyde player, Tommy Ring, scored Scotland’s first goal.

If you go to the Scottish Football Museum you can see John MacKenzie's shirt from that match on display. The shirts had white sleeves due to the game being broadcast live on black and white TV. Hungary turned up with their traditional dark red kits - and when a screen test was done, there was no way to tell the Scots and Hungarians apart from a distance. In the days where there was still a shortage of materials from the post-war days of rationing, Scotland didn't have the resources to find an all-white jersey so they had to get creative. Inspiration was taken from Hibernian/Arsenal and enough material was found to put white sleeves on the shirts. I think it's fair to say it was enough to tell them apart other than the different designs of numbers that both sides had on the back of their shirts. Scotland wouldn't wear white sleeves on a home shirt again until the mid-to-late 2010s when Adidas produced the design that meant one team had to change into their away kit when we went to Wembley or England came to Hampden.

I was in Berlin the weekend after she died and I was delighted to be out of the country, it was just a shame I couldn’t stay longer. The UK is a very strange place at times.

We probably weren't too far away from each other - admittedly, I flew to Berlin then got a train down to Basel so it would only have been for a few hours. I wasn't paying much attention while in Switzerland but other than a few minutes at the start of most news programmes and the photos on the front pages of papers, that was about the extent of it. When I went back to Berlin a few days later there wasn't much coverage of it at all and it was blissful. Normal Island is a very odd place to live when you see how others not too far away from us go about the lives.

To me that Mitchell tackle isnt a foul in either direction, tbh.

Do like Mitchells reaction to the booking though, seems convinced hes gotten his second yellow initially.

Would agree with this - no wonder Mitchell had the reaction he did. At first, was certain the ref was giving Mitchell a second yellow and only twigged that Watson had been booked when the goalie took the ball and lined up the free kick. VAR in Scotland isn't working because it's been rushed through and our officials are either not experienced enough at using VAR or are not good enough in general. Add to that, it's also elevating officials into the Championship who should probably be a level or two below that just to make up the numbers because the refs who would previously have officiated in the Championship are now in VAR rooms up and down the country, so fans in that league are also bemoaning poor decisions. If we were so insistent on having VAR, why did we not just give it another season and introduce it this coming summer?

Anyway, what's done is done now and I'm looking forward to a bit of respite from the general drudgery of the league with the international break.

  16. Very disappointing from a Killie perspective. Can't fault the players apart from Donnelly who had another brainfart that led to Saints getting the equaliser, can't fault the manager or the tactics particularly. Even the subs were fine for us, which isn't always the case. However, given Saints were very underwhelming today we had to capitalise on that and failed to get the second goal that probably would have got us over the line. The officials were very poor, and without wanting to get into conspiracist territory I maintain that Killie have had a disproportionate amount of VAR decisions go against us. I know all teams will be on the wrong end of them, but the amount we've had recently has been nothing short of laughable.

A golden chance to put some daylight between ourselves, United and County gone. We can only be thankful that the other results went our way and hope that the JTs are as laughably poor in a fortnight as they were today.

One last thing - very pleasing to see David Watson make his first start at home. The boy gave a good, committed performance and deserves to keep his place for the remainder of the season. Regardless of wherever we end up, next season's team should be built around Watson, Warnock and Wales.

No penalties awarded as there were no clear handballs/fouls.

The first one Gordon doesn't even handle it, it's the Killie player that handles it. Second handball wasn't clear, his arm is up sure, did he touch it? Was he being fouled to make him raise his arms? Not so sure. Jones being fouled outside the box then falling down in the box is a surprise. Big big surprise.

  18. Had a text from my mate running a bus today to say he's had word from our SLO (who had a meeting with the police, ICT and the roads alliance) that the weather won't call the game off. Famous last words, perhaps, but I don't think the weather's been as bad as it possibly could have been. Let's hope it stays that way and the game goes ahead as planned - I, like others, wouldn't manage along to a rearranged midweek fixture.

It’s maybe another debate for another thread but St Johnstone fans are the worst on P and B for smugness imo. It was infuriating a few years ago when they were in Europe a lot.

I’m working today so won’t make the game unfortunately. Might have been a bit chilly in the Portman beer garden anyway.

I find it hard to disagree with you - that was annoying in the extreme. Thank goodness that awful, awful time is over.
