  1. Confident ahead of this one - I've enjoyed watching Dumbarton's highlights so far this season and they play a good brand of football. I'd like to think we'll be taking this seriously and won't have any banana skins to deal with. Looking forward to it - and before the game, I'll be playing a set in the 1869 Suite (formerly the Park Suite) from 1:15.

  2. Having just about digested everything from yesterday now, I can hopefully get this thread back on track. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but I'll carry on.

Very proud of the team yesterday, every player gave their all and there were no bad players in the stripes with perhaps the exception of Lafferty who shouldn't have started despite our very limited options up front at present. Unlike the previous week where we dug in for more or less the entirety of the game, we went toe to toe with Celtic and were it not for a combination of some excellent saves from Joe Hart and Liam Polwarth getting in the way, we would have had the ball in the net at least once. On the balance of the 90 minutes, I don't think it's unfair to suggest that we deserved to score, but that's football. Regarding the penalty shout just before Celtic scored the winner, when even John Hartson is claiming that a penalty should have been given you know that the referee has made a big blunder. I feel that it's already been done to death and there's no guarantee that we'd have got a goal from a penalty, but it would have been some achievement to take Celtic to extra time given the gulf in resources between us and them. I thought our fans were absolutely brilliant and the team deserved to be applauded off the park despite the loss as there's certainly no shame in losing in the manner we did.

In terms of a day out, it made me realise just how much we'd missed out on over the past 11 years without a Hampden appearance for the first team. Had a fantastic day out with friends, met loads of people I knew up at Hampden - some of whom I'd not seen since before covid was a thing - and even after the game, it was a really good night. I really, really hope that we don't have to wait another 11 years to enjoy such a special day.

  3. I don't think we did too badly in the first half, apart from conceding just before the break, but we definitely got lucky in the second half. As @deadasdillinger says, on paper it's probably a Celtic win most times - but football is played on grass (or plastic in our case) and with it being a semi-final, you never do know. I'm looking forward to the occasion and the day out as we haven't had a Hampden day out since March 2012, and as long as we try our very best and don't get embarrassed that's all I can hope for.

There has been a lot of effort made by St Mirren fans to the “NorthBank” in the West Stand over the last few weeks.

These images don’t show the impact it has had. Outstanding effort by all concerned. Some of the old photos were rescued from the hospitality suite when they were supposedly heading to the local dump. 🤦‍♂️

The hall of fame images have been in place for years, but now the fans have added their stamp on the ground and there are further improvements planned.

    Well done everyone involved!

This is absolutely tremendous work, well done to all involved. Would love to see something at RP but the issue that we have is that underneath the Moffat, East and Chadwick stands is exposed to the elements so any artwork wouldn't last as long. Still, the murals that have appeared in the last few years are great and I'd love to see more. Even at Glasgow Perthshire, where local kids have had the opportunity to create artwork across the ground with spray paint art, artwork can be used to give a real sense of identity and character to a ground.

I always wondered how many windows ended up smashed from that hospitality building?

  5. I can think of a few in my time. I started going to games at the tail end of the Totten era and that was followed by stability under firstly Williamson and then Jefferies. Things were still fine until Allan Johnston came along - he clearly was at a level above his capabilities, but he towers over Gary Locke. I've no idea how Locke kept us up at the tail end of 2014/15 as his signings were utter dross - that Killie team in 2015/16 is easily one of the worst I've ever seen, and it's telling that Locke's win %age was 25.58%. Along came Lee Clark who talked a good game, somehow lasted a year (with a 22.73% win ratio) and then left to join Bury, claiming that bigger and better things were on the horizon down in Greater Manchester. Well, I suppose if helping a club in dire financial straits quicken their eventual demise counts as bigger and better things, then I suppose he was right...

We then promote Lee McCulloch to manager from assistant, and things are dire as we lose 1-0 to Ayr at Somerset and look like a pub team in comparison to Ayr, who were up for it that night. After a dismal run and a defeat at home to Ross County where the fans are so resigned to relegation that they barely bother to boo the team off the park, McCulloch leaves with a 26.67% win ratio. Steve Clarke takes over and we have the best season and a half I think it's possible for any club outwith the old filth to have - and then we have the Angelo Alessio debacle. Personally, I'd have binned him after the Nomads catastrofuck, but he did stabilise things and give us a fair few clean sheets. Despite this, the football was as boring as you'll get and things obviously weren't right behind the scenes. Angelo left with a 36.36% win ratio, and I think Alex Dyer got lucky in a couple of ways regarding the circumstances of getting the job and then keeping it. The board should never have appointed him past his first 3 games in temporary charge with the performances, but they gave him until the end of the season and with the pandemic hitting he then had the opportunity to build the team in his own image. How I wish he hadn't. Had fans been allowed into stadiums in 2020/21 I think the board would have been forced into binning him around October/November instead of December, and that might have allowed someone else time to steady the ship. As it was, in came Tommy the dinosaur and down we went. Since then we've binned him and have ended up with McInnes. A good few underwhelming managers in that list, with a couple of absolute frauds thrown in for good measure too.

  6. I haven't done any Premiership grounds yet, but every year for my mate's birthday we used to do hospitality at the Binos. We got a bit fed up of doing the same day out every year, so now we pick a random ground every year (with the aim of helping to cross off as many SPFL grounds as we can) and go there. Did Cowdenbeath back in April which was good fun (apart from the game which was probably the worst I've ever seen in all my years watching games at all levels) and we're doing Queen of the South in April next year. Because I work a lot of Saturdays, it's always a good buzz to go to a new ground and try out the hospitality experience.

Wales threatened Hibs more in one 5 second burst than Cameron did the whole game.

Without a doubt. We need to see a lot more of him after the break - Wales and Warnock are scoring for fun with the reserves and they surely offer more of a threat than Cameron. I've said it before in that with Cameron being a Killie fan we all want to see him do well and push on to the next level, but after all this time it's plain for all to see that he's just not good enough to be a consistent Premiership player. I'll give him his credit, he was very good in the LC against Hearts and won us the game, but that's been the exception to the rule for his career in the stripes thus far.

Hopefully after the break we see a more consistent team and shape, with the selection tombola being put in the bin.

Trying to lift the spirits a wee bit before tomorrow by quoting this post and reminding everyone that it was only a short time ago that we were saying we looked a lot better.

I never ask for much in life, but I would very much like for the Gods of fitba (whoever they may be) to at least not send us home at 5PM today feeling despondent and bottom of the league. Yes, when I do ask, it's always for a lot...

Can I start moaning about the pitch or should I wait until after the game?

Is Robinson still with your lot?

Yeah, but he's had absolutely no luck with injury. According to the Killie Standard article I read recently, he's due to be back in contention relatively soon which is very welcome given our striker situation at present.

  10. It's still just a bit too early for me to see who's really in the mixture bar the bottom couple of sides. For me, there's no question that United and County are down there, and we're not out of it quite yet although if our form continues at the rate it does we'll propel ourselves away from it gradually. It remains to be seen how we'll cope without Lafferty until our semi-final in January, but I think that the break coming in November will be a very welcome one for the teams in the bottom half to allow them to take stock and see exactly what they need in January.

  11. I do think while we've improved in the last month or so, we'll still improve in January with the new backroom staff structure in place and hopefully some of Tommy Wright's dross leaving for pastures new to allow new faces to come in. I do think we'll be bottom six this season due to our poor start which wasn't helped by a lack of a settled formation and injuries, but the teams we're up against in the next while are potentially beatable. Who knows what'll happen though, I'll have a better idea come Saturday at 5.

  12. This is becoming far too tedious, so onwards and upwards.

Great win yesterday and over the past month the form has definitely taken an upturn - actually having speed in the team is helping, and yesterday showed that we can grind out results. Yes, County might not have been at their best by any means but what matters is that we held the nerve and got 3 points. While the home form under McInnes is very good we now need to start replicating that away from home and I can think of no better game coming up than McDiarmid on Saturday to do so. Time will tell how much Lafferty is missed in the first team, but if we can keep the current form going up until the WC break and sign a couple of new players as well as offload some dross at the start of January then we'll be absolutely fine.

  13. I think it's very hard to fault in the current format. As others have said, it removes all the pishy, meaningless friendlies that barely seemed to get Hampden half-full and has given us a chance to finally break the duck of not getting to a tournament for 23 years. We'll have to wait until a week on Sunday to see what the draw gives us, but this is a brilliant chance to get ourselves to Germany in 2 summers' time. Add to all that, it gives us a chance to play some world-class sides at Hampden and really test ourselves. I have a feeling that we'll struggle to stay in league A, but Clarke will give it a really good go.

  14. What a team. What a bloody team. Just when I don't think I could love Stevie Clarke any more, he goes and masterminds one of the best 0-0 draws we've ever had and puts us in amongst the big boys. Who genuinely could have foreseen this after Kazakhstan away, eh?

To state the bleeding obvious as many others already have, Hickey and Porteous were tremendous. Porteous in particular, having had a bit of a rough time on and off the park of late, put in the kind of shift you'd see from Franco Baresi for AC Milan in the early 90s. McLean was the only shanner of a performance, and almost everyone to a man did excellently.

The bigger takeaway from this that will become apparent soon enough is that we're guaranteed the playoff should the Euro 2024 qualification campaign go badly wrong - the Nations League as a competition has been very good to Scotland and it's also eliminated all the crap, pointless friendlies we used to have to endure. Yes, League A will be a tough shift and there's every chance we might struggle to stay up - but tonight, let's just drink it in and celebrate. Besides, how many times in your life will you get to hear the words "England relegated"?

  15. Heading through to this one after work - mainly because I don't get to many away games at weekends these days and £15 a ticket is very reasonable indeed so kudos to the clubs for making that happen. I suspect we'll get beat, but I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about our season after that late turnaround on Saturday. Not sure how sales are going at our end - I suspect with us playing Hibs away on Saturday some will choose to go to that instead.

  16. Have a sneaky feeling we can maybe get a draw out of this one. I've thought that several times before and been wrong, however, so while I wouldn't be surprised to get a 1-1 draw, I also wouldn't be surprised to turn in a poor performance the week after a good one and get cuffed three-zip. We surely cannot be as bad as we were the last time we were at Snake Mountain when Dyer's duds went down with about as much fight as an asthmatic kitten.

  17. A thoroughly enjoyable game yesterday, and a great thrill to celebrate a well-deserved equaliser at the death. Levitt's goal was a thing of beauty, but the defending that led to it wasn't great. Still, having seen that yesterday I'm reasonably confident that we're going to do alright this season with the likes of Jones back in the team and a couple more quality players. Ash Taylor is getting into the habit of scoring important late goals for us in front of the Moffat Stand, and as far as I'm concerned long may it continue.

Good away support from United, and plenty of good patter with their fans outside the turnstiles. Good show, everyone.

Not quite the same but one of our games against County last season we had our black home kit and County had their yellow away kit.

Confused some of the kids with free tickets as they briefly cheered a Ross County attack.

Aye, that was absolutely wild. One of the most baffling experiences I've ever had watching those highlights.

As for Killie, I remember us having to wear our yellow away kit at home to St. Johnstone in the late 90s, around 97/98. I also remember we wore a red away kit against Celtic on the day where Rangers bettered them with an Arteta penalty to win the league.

More recently, we wore our navy blue and red kit against Hamilton and our purple kit against Queen's Park at RP last season. I disliked that our three kits were blue and white stripes, navy blue with red trim and purple last season - I reckon that there should have been a yellow one or a white one. Surprised that we didn't keep the white kit from the relegation season to keep for the likes of Queen of the South, but there we go. Wouldn't be surprised to see us and St. Johnstone both wearing away kits against each other this season.
