  1. Now that we have the financial backing, there’s no excuse for going for someone currently in the Lowland League or below.

Jack Ross and Scott Brown are clearly both mental shouts but I don’t see why we can’t go for some of the other names mentioned who you wouldn’t normally consider as being willing to drop down to League 2.

I’ve no doubt Jack Ross will have enjoyed his time at Clyde as a player, but the idea that he’s sitting down in Newcastle misty eyed about our current position and would want to help us out is absolutely insane.

My old golfing buddy manages Musselburgh, very young coach who has worked his way into management following a coaching role at FC Edinburgh. Great exposure for him, but only the second best coach in his family as his dad is a very good golf teaching pro to multiple players on the European tour. Looking to go to the game but will wait to see the ticket situation as don’t want to take a ticket from a more deserving fan with it being on Tv anyway.

If you check the Clyde thread a week before the game, there will be a queue of folk paying you to take theirs.

I'm a bit on the fence here, it's clear progress has been limited under McLean, probably not helped by the farce at the start as no-one seemed to know who was actually in charge (given Duffy's propensity to be in the dugout and even barking instructions at times...)

However, I am nervous about who would a) actually want the job and b) who we'd end up appointing.  Given the fact the club is a bit of a binfire at the moment, and given our league position, I'd be concerned we end up similar to Elgin, making an appointment who is completely uninspiring (sorry Elgin fans).

After the first quarter of the season it's become rather apparent we are either going to scramble towards mid-table or end up in a dogfight to stay in the league.  The glimmers of hope we saw last week against Stenny were tempered by the fact that for 60 minutes we were fairly dross and also the fact that it continued our trend this season of conceding dreadful goals through haphazard defending.

This could end up being one of the most important January's in a long, long time, and if the board does stay in its current guise, they've got an almighty job restoring confidence and hope, as the atmosphere is starting to get a bit fragile.

The board should put their money where their mouth is and get someone who is half decent and experienced. There really isn’t any excuse now we have the financial backing.

We were in this position before with Jim Chapman and managed to make a decent appointment which brought us a relative amount of success. The “there’s no-one out there” patter just doesn’t wash anymore.

  4. The Pixellot camera didn’t pick up the first goal and the guy who normally films the game wasn’t there, so we’ll never know if the 1st was offside. I had a good view of the penalty as I was coming back from the toilet and have no complaints about the decision. They seemed important talking points at half time but less so now, we were so comprehensively beaten it’s pointless talking about it.

At least the new scarfs are nice.

  5. Getting any sort of win is a great feeling, but we don’t half make it hard for ourselves. Felt like we fell off a cliff after the 2nd goal - we were brilliant up until then and that needs to be the standard going forward.

Leslie and King should be cheat codes at this level albeit the latter jaded as the game went on I felt. What a ping for his goal, though. It’d be ideal if we can keep them beyond January, but we’ll have won the league by then so who cares. Really impressed with Connor Young, as well.

These poor acquisitions have manifested as underperforming players who have struggled to make a meaningful impact on the team's results. Whether it's a lack of consistency, fitness issues, or simply failing to meet the expected standards, these signings have not lived up to the club's aspirations. The disappointment among fans has been palpable, as they had hoped for signings that could elevate the team's performance and contribute to its success. This unfortunate streak of underwhelming signings has left Clyde FC in a precarious position, necessitating a critical evaluation of the club's recruitment strategies and a renewed commitment to identifying and acquiring players who can make a positive difference on the pitch.

The quality of squad recruitment at Clyde FC has become a growing concern among fans and stakeholders in recent seasons, largely due to the inclusion of several players who can be categorized as poor-quality signings. While there have been some promising acquisitions that have showcased their talent and dedication to the club, there have unfortunately also been instances where the recruitment choices have fallen significantly short of expectations. These instances have resulted in underperforming players who struggled to make a positive impact on the team's overall performance, often leaving supporters frustrated and disappointed. It is imperative that the club's recruitment strategy undergoes a thorough review and overhaul. Striking a balance between securing experienced players who can make an immediate impact and nurturing young talent for the future is essential. The effectiveness of recruitment efforts will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in determining the team's performance on the field and its ability to achieve its competitive goals. As dedicated supporters, we fervently hope to see a more discerning approach to recruitment, one that eliminates the inclusion of poor-quality signings, ensuring that we have a squad capable of consistently competing at a high level and restoring the club's reputation for excellence in squad building.

Coincidentally, if anyone ever comes across some footage of the 1-1 draw against Stranraer in the last game of the 05/06 season, please let me know. I’ve always wanted to watch Craig McKeown’s late equaliser again. That season was the first I was into football as a nine-year old, so it’s tinged with the ultimate dose of rose-tinted nostalgia (even end-of-season dead rubbers).

The only other thing I remember of the aforementioned match was me and my pal at the time spending the second half behind the away dugout telling Stuart Millar than he looked like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit. It was a bit surreal to me when he was appointed Clyde manager some four years later.

I have Peter Cherrie’s gloves from that game. He probably didn’t, but I like to think he wore them for the Celtic game too.

This Clyde squad on paper is lower end Lowland League/WOSFL top half.

Surely no one is surprised they were beaten off a top half Lowland League side?

There was a sickening inevitability about it. I don’t think anybody is remotely surprised.

I’m now beginning to lose track of the amount of non league teams that have pumped us out one of cups - but the connotations of getting beat off a University team, after a relegation, a shocking League Cup campaign, a shocking transfer window, a baffling management structure and an insipid start to the league campaign arguably makes it our worst ever result.

If the chairman is still adamant these losers are capable of mounting a promotion bid, then it’s just gaslighting at this point. Enough is enough.
