Wishaw 2-4 Lesmahagow, 12/07/2023.
Well then. What a night.
Within ten minutes of kick-off Wishaw had gone a goal behind (to a penalty taken as I glimpsed through the fence on my way in) and had a man sent off for something he said to the referee after a disagreement over a marginal offside call. It was probably offside, but getting yourself sent off over it in a friendly is monumentally stupid. The move didn't even result in a goal.
Maybe the ref could have calmed it down instead of going for the red, but I don't know what was said.
Before half-time he had levelled the sides, with the visitors going down to ten for a bad tackle. It was probably a red card, but the ref wasted no time in getting the card out, seemingly delighted to even it up after the earlier fuss.
Among all this first-half drama, the visitors had taken a 3-1 lead. Both sides played some decent stuff at times, and it was a first half that flew past.
Second half was decent too, but the main entertainment was the primary school-age Wishaw ultras. At one point they threw a bottle of water at the Lesmahagow dugout. When someone threw it back out, it landed about five yards away from the weans on the grass. As one, the twenty or so of them threw themselves to the floor clutching their heads and started rolling about. Fucking tremendous stuff.
A further goal each left it as a very satisfying night. Six goals, two red cards, a bit of controversy. All for three quid.
I was there too.
If they waited until full time and then asked people to pay what they thought the game was worth, they’d have made a fortune.
I must’ve been standing quite near you at one point - we’ve both photographed the guy in the red jacket.

Cheers.
I did think I was pissing in the wind but no harm in trying.

Bump.
EasyJet text me today saying my flight from Glasgow>Porto in a fortnight is cancelled. The only viable alternative was to fly out from Gatwick so had to book a train from Glasgow to London. My question is do I have reasonable grounds for getting reimbursed for the train ticket? I’m going to chance it and see what they say regardless, but just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience.
I suspect they’ll tell me to f**k off as they gave me 2 weeks notice but it was an absolute pain in the arse trying to get something sorted this afternoon. My partner having a complete meltdown when I was trying to sort it didn’t help mind you!

I was meant to go on Saturday, but the hotel we booked cancelled a few weeks ago saying they’d overbooked (aye right). Everywhere else was extortionate by that point so just had to patch it.

He was before my time as Clyde and Scotland manager but met him a couple of times at Clyde games where he‘d been invited as a guest of honour. A top guy who would chat to you for hours about football if he could.
RIP Craig.

That East Stirling closed door game is the only friendly I’ve seen confirmed for us so far.
We’re playing in the Paul Kelly Memorial Tournament on the 1st and 2nd of July with St Rochs, Glasgow Perthshire and Caledonian Locomotives. The games are at Petershill Park.

Who was that ex Queens striker we had that came on as a sub and got hooked off again? He was brutal. I want to say it was Stephen something beginning with O.
Steven Odunewu.
He nearly scored the goal of the century against Man United in that mid-season friendly in 2009.

To be fair to him he tried his heart out at Harps. It didn't help much, but he certainly worked.
He is one of the laziest players I’ve ever seen for Clyde.

My guess would be Accies & Cove as home games, and Brechin & Clyde away.
Assuming the fixtures are decided using the same formula as recent years, you’ll be at home to Clyde & Accies and away to Cove and Brechin which is probably the best set of fixtures in a truly dull group.

If they are using the same method to determine the fixtures as previous years it’ll be (I think):
Livi away
Brechin home
Cove away
Accies ‘home’.

As soon as Livi, Accies and Cove got put into the group my thoughts were “that is the most boring group ever. Clyde a shoo in for that”.
Absolute misery.

Livi, Accies, Cove, Clyde and Brechin.
Absolutely stinking

QP’s games at Lesser pre-September an absolute shoo-in to be against ICT and Arbroath where capacity won’t be an issue, with Partick Thistle or Dundee United conveniently being the visitors for the big Hampden homecoming.

Why would a Board, even ours sack a manager during the season and have to pay him off, employ another unless the brief was to “keep us up”?
We had to get rid of the previous manager because he’d assembled an abhorrently bad group of players and presided over the club’s worst run in 50 odd years.
It may well have been Duffy’s brief to try and keep us in the league but at the fans meeting at NDP a few days after he was announced, it was clear to me and everyone else there that it was just simply not going to happen. The damage was done. You could argue then, that he had 6 months to prepare the squad for a handful of key games and failed to do so. Mistakes were definitely made in the run up to the play offs imo but there’s no doubt we had managed to gather a bit of momentum and in the end a few things went against us in the play offs which made it nigh on impossible.
As for the concerns about how hands on Duffy will be as DoF - that wasn’t really his style as a manager so I don’t see why people would think he’s going to be facilitating training, being in and around the dressing room on match days, in the dugout etc. The only other time I can remember having a DoF was Neil Watt when Stuart Millar as manager. Latterly he ended up in the dugout when things had gone completely tits up but it wasn’t the case initially - Millar was given a chance and although he ultimately failed, McLean deserves his chance too and should be moved on if it doesn’t work.Hopefully we’ll get a clearer picture of how it’s going to work in practice at the meeting next week, however I’m hopeful he’ll be bringing his own ideas to the table as opposed to being a “puppet” to Duffy, as if he’s some evil overlord.

The amount of people that now seem to be of the opinion that we had a great chance of staying up when Duffy took over, and that relegation is entirely his fault is absolutely nuts.
I’m no fan of the guy or his football but there is an awful lot of rewriting of history going on here.

Willing to give him a chance.
It’s slightly underwhelming because it was so predictable but I think some of the comments here are a bit over the top.
McLean was not the reason we were relegated, so him being part of last season’s squad doesn’t make a difference to me.
Spurs maybe just pipped us to the post for Postecoglou.

We really have gone full circle. League 2, Jim Duffy and bargain bucket away strips.

The Boss was incredible tonight. The greatest show on earth.

Could’ve just been a slip of the tongue, but Duffy was on Off the Ball earlier and said we only had 2 signed players for next season.

Connor Scullion did the HT Crossbar Challenge* at one game last season. I remember thinking he was a complete tit because he got changed into a pair of football boots before taking his shot. Had no idea he’d played at this level in the past.
*if memory serves it got blootered over the bar.
