  1. Now we've lost Robert/Bob/Boab/Rob Harris we've got a new conundrum, is it Thomas, Tom or Tam Brighton?

Surely folk aren't falling for the Fleck rumour? He's been linked with a loan move to us since he was just a nipper playing for Sperm United! Also the day he was supposedly in Dumfries he was on the bench for Rangers down in Blackpool. (A game that Harris played in as well).

  2. Confirmed in today`s Herald. One year deal.

I'll wait until it's on the OS before getting his name printed on my shirt just in case!

I actually thought he would've been signed up earlier tbh, as soon as he started training with us, and then continued to do so I never thought it was in doubt that he would join. Proving his fitness I suppose.

  3. I do believe he did.

This in itself also proves nothing though.

It goes a long way to disproving KB's "anti-Weatherston" agenda though surely? Or did he only form the agenda after joining Queens and picking it up from Chisholm who must've had the same dislike for poor wee middle class Davie, because he also chose to not play him regularly?

Or could it in fact just be the case that Weatherston although excellent on the very odd occasion is overall an average player in this league, whose cons outweigh the pros and is therefore hard to justify paying a wage to in financially tight times? The fact that after three seasons no-one is terribly sure where his best position tells a story about the impact he has made.

Pleased to get Brighton on board, assuming it is true. St Mirren fans appear to rate him after his short spell their, and after getting a full (and fairly successful) pre-season under his belt I expect he will be more like the player they saw, than the unfit, injury-ravaged dud that appeared for Dundee and Stirling last season.

  4. Talk about damn lies and statistics . This is one that would even make a Labour spin doctor blush . The sole reason McClaren contributed more than Weatherston last season was by virtue of the fact he had about three times the air play than DW. Now Fin , sit down and divide the huffy , petulant McClarens starts by about three and come back and tell me what kind of impact he had.

    Erm... still a big impact.

Referring to McLaren as huffy is undermining your own argument as well because Weatherston almost as frequently could be found throwing his arms about and sporting a petted lip when things weren't going his way.

Here's the cold hard facts for you anyway:

Willie McLaren - very quickly snapped up by Hamilton, a team likely to be pushing for promotion from this league, and managed by the highly experienced, and respected Billy Reid.

David "Pele" Weatherston - A bit-part player under two different managers at Queens, not offered a new deal by a third.

  5. I have to say Im a little undecided about Weatherston. He certainly has pace and it can be very effective. However, his final ball when playing out wide and his finishing when playing up front often let him down. Add in the fact that he struggles to play 90 minutes and is "injury prone" Im not convinced he's a risk worth taking.

I wouldnt be upset if he did sign, but I also wouldnt be surprised if Gus can bring in someone better.

    This.

Also when exactly did this "public undermining" take place?

  6. As I said on the squad thread, it's a slightly surprising signing. The squad will be thin enough without signing another version of McKenna and Simmons who already fll the central midfield role. Can't really see where the three are going to fit in the same team and that's before mentioning Johnston who played centrally last season but might play wider I suppose. And as you say, without McGuffie either, although I'd guess he's predominantly seen as a defender rather than a midfielder. I don't know if it means he's given up on McGuffie making his mind up or not.

Simmons was an unpopular signing, and I too am now wondering where he fits in. Even if we factor in that McKenna will miss at least ten games next season due to suspension, and Johnston won't last a full season playing 90 minutes we do still seem a bit top-heavy in the centre of midfield. Ryan McCann training with us makes it even more baffling as I'm pretty sure he was back to his familiar midfield role with both Airdrie and Ayr since leaving us as a right-back. We surely don't need him in midfield as well, and I'd certainly rather McGuffie at right-back.

Am I right in saying I read somewhere that Gus is looking to build the squad one position at a time? Presumably he is now happy enough with the defence, and this signing is surely the last of the centre mids. What does this leave us needing filled? A couple of wingers, a striker and a goalkeeper? I can see us signing Brighton, which I would have no complaints about, and maybe Weatherston will get a deal (better the devil you know and all that).

  7. You work with them every day in training and look at how they respond to comments from you and other players, maybe?

I dont think thats what they meant. What they were saying was that the players will react better if the fans dont get on their back. They werent saying the players couldnt handle it, just that the fans supporting them, rather than criticising, will help them play better.

Why listen to the informed views of successive managers though?

"GIT THE YOUNG BOYS OAN!"

  8. Big d Holmes pens a deal with the diamonds.

Play to his strengths and you've a real gem. Punt aimless balls in his general direction and expect him to chase them, you're wasting your time. Assuming he is over the injury that troubled him towards the end of last season he should easily manage 10+ goals for you and numerous assists.

  9. Yes it is.

Would that be the one that they stole the idea from last seasons ones organised by the club :whistle:lol:

Either way, the night will be posted out on the OS "Live updates" as well as twitter and facebook :)

    Haha touché!

I'm nightshift or I would probably attend, as the ones last season appear to have been very successful.

  10. Happy with those two signings. If Smith can stay fit both are, arguably, better than what we had last season.

Be interesting to see how Campbell is going to fit in being PT. Presumably someone will ask Gus at the "Meet the management " night on Wednesday 6th July at palmerston - tickets still avaliable ;)

Is that the "Meet the Management" that the Trust organised?

  11. You're talking about quite large amounts of money their SD, not necessarily in business terms but when you bare in mind it is individuals or groups of. What is to the credit of the various people as well is the fact that they were so happy to chuck money at the club out of blind loyalty, despite it being widely accepted that those in charge of the finances had made such a mess of them. Not the sort of venture people are normally keen to give money too.

I know it's not a particularly big deal, and the money raised probably barely covers one of the U19s wages for a week, but for me the thing that summed up the shambolic out-of-touch nature of the club last season was the ALBA scarfs. For the club to not have the savvy to knock together a commemorative scarf for the occasion is scandalous. Clubs the size of Queens are normally straight on the merchandise bandwagon when an opportunity arises, they certainly milked our Scottish cup run and subsequent UEFA cup game.

There was, and still is an impression that the fans groups are better run than the club itself! This may or not be the case but their efforts really shouldn't be belittled.

  12. Surely it only offers better value for money if we sign players who are as good? Otherwise, paying less money for worse players would be the same value for money ;)

To be honest, what we're actually paying is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is how that compares to the rest of the division

I see where you're coming from but paying wages that high at our level is scandalous regardless of how good the player is. Cutting the wage bill is the quickest way to reduce our outgoings. The level of our ambition appears to be maintaining first division status if this can be done cheaper then it's a no brainer.
