  1. I'd say Simmons absolutely does fit that criteria. He's certainly not a showy player. He gets on with what he does quietly and people tend not to notice it. I would never associate Simmons with "flair".

I think it's a decent signing to be honest.

Well he must've done it very quietly first time round because he was completely anonymous. He didn't show any sort of work rate, or willingness to either tackle or get involved in an attacking sense so I don't see how he can be described as "workmanlike". Raith fans inform us that he likes to "try and find passes, but doesn't score a lot". I know it is pushing it to call that "flair" but surely it is closer to that than workmanlike?

  2. I wasn't a massive fan of Simmons in the few games he played for us but he looked a different player for Raith. The McGlynn influence perhaps ?

He is never going to be another Bowser but give the guy a chance.

I have faith that Gus can coax the best out of him unlike Chisholm.

I wouldn't want another Bowser but that's a different argument entirely.

As my signature says "in Gus we trust" and if he thinks Simmons can do a job then fair enough, I'll give him a chance. My main concern is that when Gus was appointed several St Mirren fans told us to expect a solid and workmanlike team. Simmons doesn't fit that criteria, and if he is to be the "flair player" amongst a team of solid hard-workers then I'm worried.

  3. I'm in the "Simmons is honking" camp as well. An absolute passenger during his time with us. Games just seem to pass him by and he appears to have no motivation to try and get involved to rectify this. I hope we sign some strikers who can create chances for themselves because a midfield of McKenna and Simmons offers nothing in a creative sense.

  4. I work a mix of dayshift and nightshift and although I would say I prefer nights, I'm happy to have the variety. There are two definite advantages to nightshift for me; largely being left to your own devices to work in peace, and not having to get up at the un-Godly hour of 4.45am which is when I have to get up for dayshift. I am very much a night time person anyway so working at the un-Godly hour of 4.45am doesn't bother me before anyone points this out. I am definitely more tired on a day shift than a night shift.

  5. The Mark Robertson rumour seems fairly well known so I assume it is true. He will offer some much needed business nous to a board who seem sadly lacking in that sense. As for the "restructuring" I have heard that will entail the other board members having more of a say rather than just Davie Rae. Surely that should've been the case from day one?

  6. David Rae is as much to blame as Chisholm for giving the okay to sign all these players on 2 year contract on to much money

Derek Holmes was on £850 a week to agree to pay that for 2 years was just mad.We should not have had a player on more that £500 a week yet most of the squad were on £600-£700 know wonder we have money problems.

I don't think you'll find anyone that disagrees with that. He did say Chisholm was one of the reasons though not that he was entirely to blame. I don't think anyone will ever understand the baffling decision to back Chisholm to the hilt for a promotion push that was never going to happen, and wouldn't be possible even if it did. Not with out incurring even further debt through groundsharing etc.

  7. Nothing retrospective on my part I made it fairly clear throught his previous tenure that I wasn't a fan and nothing has changed. He was inept with bags of money to spend yet Rae thought the sun shone out his backside. If the board feel he is the man for the job when we have no money to spend then it shows you how clueless they actually are. Although my dislike for Chisholm would play a part my reason for not returning would more be down to his appointment being a symbol that the club is run by idiots who will likely end up killing the club.

  8. In McKenna you may have found the younger fitter version of Neil Macfarlane which is what he originally was for us. Last season though he was an infuriating ned and a complete liability with his knack of picking up bookings on a game by game basis. Mostly completely unnecessary as well. When available he will do you a turn and can fill in at CB or RB when required. Starts the season with a FIVE match ban though which will be the first of many.

  9. You say that his whining about enforced cutbacks has no impact; yet concede that a perceived lack of ambition is among the reasons cited by those who don't attend.

It's impossible to gauge accurately how much damage Brannigan's doom mongering might have done to gates. I don't think however that it can be dismissed as a potential factor, for the reasons you pretty much admit yourself in the above post.

Those types of comment have pre-dated Brannigan by quite a considerable time though. Like I said most are unrealistic and probably expected Queens to have a compliant stadium and be in the SPL within a couple of years. It's a vicious circle really. Us as regulars at Palmy with more knowledge than your man on the street appreciate that with the income we have sustaining ourselves in the First Division is an achievement, and a fourth place equates to a good season. It's not exactly going to entice punters away from the pub and Jeff Stelling doing his hardest to make Kidderminster against Burton Albion sound like the most exciting game in the world though.

You're going to struggle to convince me KB's comments have had much, if any impact. What I will agree with though is that most of what he said was pretty obvious (certainly to me) so didn't really need to be said anyway, and certainly not on an almost weekly basis.

Also bearing the circumstances in mind, not enough on its own to justify not renewing his contract, especially when the footballing side of things has been so successful.
