Do you remember who we signed in the summer during the last season before we went up?

Mark Campbell from Ayr, who turned out to be the donkey that we all thought he would.

Former Livingston Asst Manager Alan Kernaghan, who was 38 years old at the time.

Colin Marshall, a young midfielder who was released after failing to make the grade at St Johnstone, who were in the same league as us at the time. (and would finish the season 3rd bottom)

Andy Thomson, who was pretty much the definition of a journeyman striker who failed to make the grade at Partick Thistle. The John Baird of his day, if you like.

Manuel Kante, who went on to play a total of two games - in the Stirlingshire Cup.

Pedro Moutinho who was a complete unknown at the time and came in because of Latapy.

And Darryl Duffy. I'll agree he was an exciting signing, though somehow I suspect that if we signed an ex-Old Firm youth tomorrow you would slag him off as a lazy signing rather than give him a chance.

I can't recall many of them giving me a "real buzz". In fact, after watching Hughes sign the like of James Sharp, Brent Rahim, Jason Lee, Davide Xausa & Colin McMenamin the season before I was expecting most of them to be duds. It was only when I went down to Blyth and watched us rip the Northumbrians apart 7-1 that I realised we might actually turn out decent.

I think your memories of that preseason are just a little hazy.

Don't ever mention David xausa on a Falkirk thread again

I really like Baird, he always gives his all and has been great for our club in terms of commitment and when he hits his purple patch can bang them in. I think he's well liked in the dressing room as well. I just think we need something new and someone else to partner Austin upfront to show some ambition if nothing else. If he left I think he would be wished the best of luck from the majority of our support. If he stays then I would hope it would be as back up but obviously he needs first team football.

i like baird as well but if he stays houston has to think about when to use him..ie its not a good idea to stick him up front (at times this season on his lonesome)...& hoof high balls in his general dierection...hes a niggly little all action type who must be murder to play against but he doesnt have the build to be physical...as an impact sub to make the difference in a tight game id deffo keep him

Absolutely delighted to see the back of Fraser Aird, though. Bluebell(end) from the first breath to the last.

Aye as I've said before he had no interest in playing for us it was so obvious....can see him signing for linfield then he can play staunch proddie boy with them.. halfwit

  4. was just on bettermeddle there reminding myself of the first season I really remember....78/79...we had some jokers playing back then...im looking at you mike oliver.we were no bigger than the rest of the clubs and played to 1200 or so at home & we were part time...Dumbarton were as big as us

I sit in the main stand behind the dugout and am surrounded by thoroughly decent people who in the main are supportive of the players. There are a few complete roasters though whose voices are heard above all others even from some distance. I do think there is a genuine belief among most fans at the moment that certain things aren't working or Kerr and taiwo together and Baird this gets us off on the wrong foot especially like the first twenty minutes yesterday which was awful to watch. Again we ended up the stronger team though imo we ran out of time though so why not start like this or change earlier?

    I also sit here...& I am a total & utter fucking roaster

    No chance....

I feel your pain your team is not well supported by the local populace you are staring at least a play off place to the division below & you can't handle these facts ...us & the pars are comfortably bigger more better supported clubs than the midden..& your striking out through understandable little mans chip on both shoulder feelings..it's okay it will be what it'll be..try to accept it

  7. I'm basing our strongest side on what I've seen this season...Sure Kidd V muirhead is a reasonable arguement..Kidd a naturally right sided player who offers something going forward compared to muirhead a converted centre who just punts it aimlessly.. Joe McKee has played once for us & played well but we haven't seen him since...There is no better player at chesting/holding up the ball than Lee miller...Austin is a bit of an enigma .We need to play a different game if he's playing ie ball over the top to let him run at them...Miller with Baird buzzing around him would be my first choice

  8. Frustrating as f**k...Had we managed to keep vaulks & Alston we we would be pishing this ...Aunty had baws I know..Still don't understand why we never tried just ahead of muirhead.. Obviously meaningless now as craigen has hit form...I've calmed down from my weekend Aird rant & realise the boy has been through a lot recently & he will certainly get my support

    What a night that was.

Amazingly that was the replay for 1 of the worst games through at Firhill.

i was in the cooperage lane enclosure that night ...when the cameras went close up on the bobby law/stainrod incident my old mans giant sheepskin gloved hand could be clearly seen expressing his thoughts....my old dear put it in slo-mo & managed to get a flavour of his eloquently expressed opinions..
