He’s got on top of Isner’s serve every other time he’s played him, which is why he always beats him. Unlike the youngster Ruud, Isner never has been - and never will be - in a grand slam final.
That third set should be the turning point, if Murray’s body can last five sets.
Two long past it old guys going the distance. Plenty of errors and good fun coming up, and tired legs afterwards. Jannik Sinner will surely beat whoever the winner is in the next round.

Yes but it is a slam final on clay.  Ruud has barely won a match on grass in his career.  Murray would have loved to take his number 3 seeding.

  2. If Andy is to win it will be his 11th from 2-0 down.  The others:

Andy Murray Comebacks from 2-0 Down

    2006 Davis Cup: Andy Murray def. Andy Ram (2-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3)
    2008 Wimbledon R16: Andy Murray def. Richard Gasquet (5-7, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4)
    2008 US Open R32: Andy Murray def. Jurgen Melzer (6-7, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1, 6-3)
    2010 French Open R128: Andy Murray def. Richard Gasquet (4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1)
    2011 French Open R16: Andy Murray def. Viktor Troicki (4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5)
    2011 US Open R64: Andy Murray def. Robin Haase (6-7, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, 6-4)
    2013 Wimbledon: Andy Murray def Fernando Verdasco (4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 7-5)
    2015 US Open: Andy Murray def Adrian Mannarino (5-7, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1)
    2016 French Open: Andy Murray def Radek Stepanek (3-6, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, 7-5)
    2020 US Open:  Andy Murray def Yoshihito Nishioka (4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4)

You’d think Murray would rather be playing the 23 year old French Open finalist than a never has been 37 year old John Isner right now?
Murray’s game is taylor made for isner, which is shown in their 8-0 head to head record.
Disappointing first two sets with that in mind, Andy’s not dealing with the serve at all well. Long way back but if he can win this third set I’d fancy him to get through.

Absolutely he’d rather play Ruud than Isner.  Proof of it is Ruud is already out and he can’t get near Isner’s serve.

If he wins he will overtake the record for most wins from two sets down.

Is Raducanu the ultimate flash in the pan?

She certainly had the perfect storm in New York, but I think it's symptomatic of how little there is between most of the women's players. Lots of seeds tumbling out early as seems to be normal at all the slams now on the women's side.

Largely this.  She is one year into her career.  The women’s game is full of players that play unique styles, due to lack of power.

Caro Garcia is a former top 4 singles player and no 1 doubles player.  Anyone that thought Emma would just turn up and beat her is deluded.  Emma did something that had never been done before, but she beat one top 20 player in that run.

Iga Swiatek disappeared after winning her first Slam.  The womens game is littered with one slam wonders.  Coco Gauff, Clara Tauson, Leylah Fernandez were all ahead of Raducanu before that week in September and even now all of them are better than her too.  But Raducanu’s run will go down in tennis history.

You’ve never heard of Isner?  Was in the match at Wimledon a few years ago that lasted 3 days and finished about 70-68 in the final set which prompted the rule change.

    He’s famous.

That didn’t prompt the rule change.  His match against Anderson in the semi final in 2018 that finished 26-24 (ish) that prompted the rule change.

I think if Murray could have picked a seeded player to face in the second round, he'd have picked Isner, this is a great draw. He's the archetypal big serving clogger, the kind of player Murray has mopped up with ease with his returning game throughout his career. They've played eight times previously, and Murray has won the lot. And of course Isner is 37, two years older than Andy, this is no improving up and comer. If Murray can stay fit he will surely win this.

    7-6 , 7-5, 6-7, 6-1.

Isner wouldn’t even be in the top 5 cherry picked seeds for Murray.  Ruud, Schwarzman, Tsitsipas, Carreno-Busta, the two Serbs not named Djokovic, Evans or Baez and then you might pick Isner.

The rest is spot on though despite Andy struggling on his own serve currently.

  7. Much more consistent from Serena this set, coming forward a lot more to finish points quicker.  Tan will need to start hitting more consistent passing shots or pinpoint lobs to keep her back.

The different conditions under the roof really helping Serena as well.  Fully expect her to get the win now, but if she has another patch of errors as she tires Tan will need to take full advantage.

Has she cut her cheek or is she just paying homage to Nelly?

    😂 I forgot about Nelly.

She also had the plaster playing doubles last week, have no idea why though.

Harmony Tan just using the same blue print of Roberta Vinci who stopped the Serena Slam in 2015. Move her back and fore with spin.  Really entertaining match so far, Serena just doesn’t play often enough to blow people away without having periods of constant errors.

  9. In those eight matches, Isner has had 49 break points and converted ONE. 😂

I thought Murray was okay, a little loose to start with.  But the second break of serve in the first set was mainly as Duckworth started hitting well and Andy was playing a bit safe.  Tight second set and once he got the break he ran away with the match.

You said he doesn't kill him in ep 3, but come on he chopped 3 of his 4 limbs off and left him on fire burning to death, and given his shock at finding out anakin was vader he clearly thought he was going to die in ep 3, and walked away from him knowing this,

So he clearly has no issue with anakin/vader dying, and even worse, when vader tells him that he himself killed anakin and theres nothing left, that should have been obi wans trigger to go "ah well f**k it" and kill him

    😂

    I give up.

Aside from the Vader fight and the cool audio between his voice and I’m not mistaken the air gasps sounds from the fantastic fan film shard of the past.  I thought it was shite. With terrible plot holes.

Episode 5 was really good.  Tbh not much of a fan of Star Wars.  But why did third sister after getting near killed by Vader

    A.  Not die

    B.  Get to Tattoine

    C.  Even want to kill Luke.  I think trying to kill your boss screams being fired.  Maybe I missed some dialogue.

Also in the Obi Wann fight.  Why did Vader not make sure he was dead in that rock pile and again, why didn’t Obi-Wan kill Vader.  He knows full well what he’s capable of.  After defeating him he just flys away.  No Star Destroyer firing at him.  Also that thing firing a f**k load of lasers at the start chasing the ship.  Plenty of time for important dialogue however.

Oh and flying to Alderaan for a wee thanks and a pat on the back before flying away again.  No want a cup of tea Obi-Wan?  Had yer dinner?  Nah I’ll get going.

The Grand Inquisitor said that the thought of revenge can be a great healer.  Why didn't Darth Maul, Anakin, or the Grand Inquisitor die?  "The dark side of the force is the pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural"

I think the main question is how did she get there so fast.  But Obi-Wan got there just as fast.

She wanted to kill Luke as he is the son of Anakin Skywalker.  The ultimate revenge for the slaughter of her "family" by Anakin when he killed all the younglings.  Would be killing the youngling of Anakin.

He doesn't kill Vader for the same reasons he doesn't kill him in Episode III.  He says he is like a brother, he can't do it.  In an earlier episode he is seeing yearning for a brother he can barely remember.  He doesn't need the victory like Anakin does, so leaves him alive as it isn't the Jedi way to kill someone.

The whole point of the visit to Alderaan was to get rid of the droid.  As Obi-Wan said in Episode IV he doesn't recall ever owning a droid.

That was a fucking tremendous saber and force fight tbf, obi wan finally showing the force powers of a jedi master

      Hide contents

Why, oh fucking why (other than cause a new hope requires him to do so) would obi wan not finish vader off and save the galaxy from his terrible reign, he literally had him pn his knees, one more hit and he was finished, dead, done, but no obi wan decides "ah f**k it I'll leave the 2nd most feared person in the galaxy alive)

Also i feel bad for luke having amnesia, i mean he didn't have a scooby what a jedi or anything was in a new hope, but he literally had to flee for his life from a sith/jedi force user just there lol

As he’s a Jedi and showing mercy there eventually leads to his redemption.

Also Luke does not know she’s a force user.  He fell from rocks and was unconscious.  The whole time he doesn’t see the light sabre, as she doesn’t have it ignited when running, and he’s unconscious at the end.

That was a tremendous episode of TV, really enjoyed it.

Not confirmed but I’m sure they’ll both get out there and hit a few balls. Retiring with injury in the first round not unlikely for either of them.

He has Ivan Lendl over so I’m pretty sure he will be playing.  I have high hopes for him, just a shame he injured himself on a bloody chair.

I really want to play through this again. Has anyone done a completely dishonourable, vicious b*****d play through?

I have done both, being an utter b*****d comes with its advantages - no one comes near you in towns, you don't get attempted hoodwinked as you just shoot anyone asking for help.  Explosive shotgun rounds on pinkertons is a lot of fun.

A shite situation. Did they say why they thought there was some wrongdoing? Can only presume there was something in your game against me or Invergowrie, but although you played well as usual, they certainly weren't flawless games which might've caused suspicion.

That's 3 times we've had players suspended in similar fashion which seems to indicate that chess.com are overly draconian.

They just give you a link to their fair play policy so could be anything in that.  It happened immediately after I had played Invergowrie.  We played that 1 day  per move and concluded it on an evening.  Maybe two hours max.

So as XCTR said I’d imagine they have thought I had been trying to manipulate a ranking.  As why would you play a one move a day game in the space of a couple of hours?  Why not blitz or some shorter form of chess?

Its been good fun, and I now have a beautiful Lewis Chessmen board if anyone visits 😂
