  1. When did the Recs get sold? Take it its to one of Mulraney's companies?

Recs hasnt been sold. It's been renamed in a sponsorship deal.

Smith's record was dreadful. Personally I'd got to the point where I was just expecting us to be beaten by a goal every week. We are in a difficult league but look at Dumbarton. They seem to be doing alright. We should be looking to compete with them and we just aren't.

I'm not going to join in on the Mulraney debate but his statement yesterday went something like - Smith is a fantastic manager who will have a great career in management and that he was an excellant manager for us.

    Utter nonsence.

  2. Spence has been dropped the last couple games

Indeed. But it's meant that we had to play Buchanan up front alone with Cawley, McCord etc trying to help out as we didn't have another striker. Heidless Eddie doesn't count. Hasn't worked. Added to that Spence's goal record in league games is woeful.

Get the changes made and give the 2 new guys a chance.

  3. I see retaining such a proven successful nucleus (adding in Holmes and Simmons) as a strength rather than a problem.

Aye, but who have we signed to compliment them? We are no stronger at the moment than we were last year. Spence is going to have to improve quickly. In the 3 games at the Recs I've seen him so far he's done nothing. Docherty will be a squad player. Buchanan did nothing last night to suggest he will be better than what we already have. We've not even seen Weatherston yet due to injury I assume. It's the same guys carrying us that have been doing it since the 3rd division. I maybe didn't phrase it correctly. They're not the problem but it's a problem for the team that we are still relying on them.

  4. Looking at today though and having our expectations on surviving again for another season it's looking good. In the weekender paper 12 alloa youths have signed full time deals in a modern apprenticeship deal. This could be a bit of a transition for a possible full time team in the future.

i'm sure Cowdenbeath are doing the same with having full time youths. I assume its some sort of scheme we've signed up for. We'll never be full time because we don't attract enough support locally. We may have the odd player being paid full time wages whilst still being classified as a part timer in the future but never a whole team.

The point I'm trying to make is that last season we didnt strengthen at all and only survived due to an injury time goal scored elsewhere. Unless there are some amazing signings that no one knows about at the moment coming over the next couple of weeks then we will be no stronger than we were last season and playing in a far more difficult league. We cant rely on the players that got us out of the 3rd and 2nd divs forever.

I'm willing to give everyone a chance but signing players who played for Stranraer, East Fife and the Binos last season is not exactly what i had in mind.

  5. I think if we do manage to stay up this season then IMO Smith will not have equalled Hartley, he will have surpassed him. Remember that Hartley jumped ship when it started to go downhill. Clearly didnt have it in him to fight at the bottom of the league for survival. This will be the biggest challenge the club has faced. Lets face it with the backing PH had from the board getting through the 3rd and 2nd divs should have been and was fairly straightforward. I just hope the board are giving Smith the same sort of backing. At the moment we are definitely short in most areas of the squad. Lets see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

  6. I find the situation with Doyle a strange one. Is he really hoping for full time? Reality check - he's not good enough. I would have run out of patience by now if I was Smith. He should sign now and commit himself or the contract offer should be withdrawn. We have better players (Meggatt,Gordon, McCord, Cawley) who have all signed already.

I too hope Marr is fit and ready to play. His absence due to injury last season I believe was a key part in our slump.

  7. Very happy that McCord is signed up again. One of the best part time midfielders in Scotland. Happy with Tiffoney signing too. As has been said many times before he's never let us down. Docherty should never have been released in the first place and by all accounts has had a cracking season at Stranraer. As far as Weatherstone goes - he has to be better than Kirk. Impossible not to be.

  8. What is noticeable is that there are no figures in that article to suggest how much of an improvement you are getting. Whatever benefits there are must be small otherwise I'm sure BP would be quoting figures albeit approximate ones. I ran an Alfa V6 3.2 engine for 7 years using only standard RON 95 bought mostly (I would guess high 90%) from Tesco. Never had any performance issues or problems with the engine. I know some high spec engines are recommended to run RON 98 but unless it says in your handbook I don't see the point in overspending for a higher spec fuel if you don't need it. Let's face it how many more hp do you think you'll get from it?

Obviously this is just my experience. It might work for others.

Just bought a brand new car and I'll be sticking to the standard stuff again mostly from Tesco.
