  1. Just some top notch analysis of the highlights is all. Not to be taken too seriously. However:

The quality was poor. Surprisingly piss poor at times.

The pitch, particularly in the middle of the park, looked like it took a long time for the ball to settle.

The big striker looked like he may be a handful at corners, given he was towering over everyone. Since he might play against my team this season, I sincerely hope he's shite at heading the ball.

Jeez .. do you realise what division you’re in? If you think that was bad you’ve got a lot to learn. By the way what team do you follow?
  2. After seeing the first couple of friendlies i think our defence will be very strong. Steeves, Ballantyne, Allan and Dillo is a great back four. If SP can bring in a solid centre back we can play 5 and get the best out of the two wing backs.
However I am concerned about up top. Lyons looks a player but time will tell. McLean really has got a lot to do to impress me. Half the time he doesn't look arsed and for the size of him he doesn't get himself about enough. I really think we lack a proven centre forward who can bang in the goals.

I think you’re being kind to McLean ... he looks like he can’t be arsed 100% of the time. He doesn’t win headers .. can’t hold the ball up .. doesn’t make runs behind defenders and gets pushed around far too easily. Basically, he has contributed nothing in the two friendlies so far .. and nothing last season. I trust that SP knows what he’s doing but right now we are looking very poor up top.
  3. Thought it was a decent run out. Team looks fit and it was interesting to watch the rotation of players/positions throughout the game. Lyons looks like a prospect and it was great to see Cammy back home. Marty looked good .. a bit rusty now and again but that’s to be expected. Some very tidy passing through midfield but really lack a focal point upfront. Think what we learned is what we already know .. need a strong centre half, an experienced centre forward and a goalie. Easier said than done, I know. All of that said we’re well ahead of where we were at this time last year.

  4. We recalled him from his loan at Montrose last year, played him once and he looked pretty good (albeit against Brechin) and then his name was obviously never pulled out of Csaba’s tombola and he disappeared away on loan again until he was punted at the end of the season.

Hey ho .. maybe you can buy him back from us next year.
  5. More surprised by this one but I’ve seen it too so 99% sure it’s true.
I genuinely can’t think of who we could play at RB if Watson is injured now. Bouhenna maybe?
McMullan played RB for half an hour at Firhill when we lost 2-1 but we were just throwing on attacking players to try to get back into it.

Still can’t believe you punted Ballantyne .. not the tallest but a cracking RB .. and back up goalie!
  6. We didn't have a left back in the squad so he didn't have much of a choice. I don't think he will be as much of a stand out for you as he was in the league below.
As I said, good player but in my opinion this is his level at the moment. But maybe he just didn't settle in and things. All the best to him.

I guess time will tell .. but I’m delighted to have him back. Whatever happens I hope he moves on and up.
  7. Explains why he was sent off. Let him get a shower and up the road nice and early for his photo shoot.
I'm astounded he's not gone to a top Championship club, but fair play to Stewart Petrie. It says a lot about him that Cammy's decided his long term (well long in lower league terms) future lies at Links Park.
Good luck to him. Smashing player who was excellent for us even in the dark run at the start of the season.

Nice of you to be so generous. Like you I think he should be playing at a higher level .. suspect his lack of height is what is stopping it happening .. total bollocks .especially when you look at the example of Andy Robertson. Anyway, glad to see him back at LP.
  8. He was decent enough but not irreplaceable. Albeit he was playing at LB for much of the season I don't think he was as good as a few of our fans thought he was. Seemed to get caught out quite a lot by crosses too.

You clearly have no idea .. Cammy is the best right back in league 1. Maybe the fact your manager chose to play him at left back had something to do with him deciding to come home.

This picture to me sums everything up. Three utterly clueless looking people. One who's only there because of who his dad is and two who are completely past it, still remembering football back in the 70's and won't ever change and you know why? they don't know how.
"Ha! I don't use any of those whizmo gizmo computers, moira types my emails for me"
"Bosnia? aren't they still at war?"
I'll bet you one thing, the SFA's members average age will be about 70, the corridors within the offices will smell like an old persons home, with an overpowering smell of pish and shite.

I think you’re spot on. I was “fortunate” enough to be invited to the VIP lounge/seating area for a recent SC semi-final. The lounge was full of the “great and the good” of Scottish football (aka top level hangers-on) and SFA blazers. Two things struck me ..the incredible level of cronyism on display and how amazingly amateurish the whole operation was. Everyone was patting each other on the back whilst knocking back copious amounts of booze and filling their faces. Nothing wrong with that if you’ve paid your dues but it was pretty obvious that many (most?) of the attendees didn’t fall into that category. At one point Alan McRae stood up to make a speech. It was possibly the worst I’ve ever heard. A rambling, incoherent load of waffle .. he even had to be reminded to thank the sponsor ... it was beyond embarrassing and was something that you would’ve cringed at hearing at the local bowling club. If that was any indication of the level of incompetence and self-interest at play in the SFA then you can forget about ever qualifying for a tournament again. Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas.
  10. This season he is far less ball greedy and lays off the ball more frequently.

He was our best and most dangerous player on the park today. Not one other player caused Montrose any problems.

It beggars belief that you couldn't see that.

From a Mo perspective Easton was the only Forfar player who caused us any problems up top. That said, I can see why he splits opinions. Nothing much seems to come from his efforts and by Christ he loves a dive/whinge. My impression is that he’s a luxury player that would look great in a good team .. a bit like McKay-Steven.
  11. How has Euan Henderson been doing for you?

He’s been a bit up and down. Couldn’t get in the side in the first quarter. Played well for a few weeks in Nov/Dec when we went with 3 upfront but got hooked at halftime on Saturday. The boy has potential and a good turn of pace. Very much a work in progress. Which I guess is why he’s staying around for the rest of the season.
  12. We desperately need an experienced centre forward who can hold the ball up and allow the midfield to get up in support. Easy to say but not so easy to find. Is it a lack of finance or location that is the problem? Add that to us being punished for defensive mistakes .. which we got away with last season .. and I fear we’re in for a long hard battle to avoid the bottom two slots. Frustrating thing is that we’re not far away. As Moforever said, had we been a bit more clinical at both ends we could’ve won all the league games other than the one against the Smokies.

  13. Have to say that I’m a little bit concerned at the lack of activity on the signing front at LP. As things stand, from the league winning team, we’ve lost 3 key players in Sanny, Cammy and Lewis (seemingly) and brought in a serially injured front man who doesn’t score many. Hopefully, SP has a few rabbits to pull out of his hat because right now we are well short of what’s needed to stay up.

  14. Ok .. so what you’re saying is it’s all about the size of the bribe. If it’s big enough to secure a clubs future for the short term then all is good? My team has been around since 1879 and with a bit of luck it will be around for a long time to come. Accepting a bribe to get some unsustainable short term benefit which will inevitably end in tears (see Gretna) is insane. Every club has a level of financial sustainability driven by how many folk it can get through the door. Yes a winning team will attract more but at the end of the day a bigger (ie more financial clout) team will come along and pinch our better players. Such is life and you know what .. I’m ok with that. My team competes on a reasonably level playing field. Yes I’d like us to climb the leagues but not if that threatens the very existence of the club. Realistically, there’s only so far a team like Montrose can progress without financial doping. But hang on this isn’t about us diddy teams. Seemingly, it’s meant to be about improving the Scottish game and international team. Precisely how does creating a model which allows Celtic and Rangers stockpile even more young talent do that?

  15. A responsible director would vote for what is correct for his club including greatly strengthening its financial base.  Sustainability is only a single aspect to be considered.  It would not have a neutral effect - firstly the enhanced quality of player in the league would produce some increase in crowds, secondly said clubs would likely enjoy increased cup success and thus more money and crowds from that route, thirdly it makes it much more likely that clubs in the play off places at each end of the division would enjoy success in those competitions and the attendant benefits.  They would also be more economically sound and have a stronger base to build on and take forward rather than say constant pressure on cashflow which may detract from longer term planning  - that is at £500k - surely you aren't extending your argument to £40m level.  Wouldn't Scottish football benefit from having more clubs who have a strong financial and cash base isn't that part of the argument against the big clubs getting so much of the League monies distributed each season?  Clubs can readily understand that it will be a 1 or 2 year boost perhaps but with sound planning can use it to invest and fund the future.  Its not just about the respective  league positions at the end of that one season.

  16. The size of the bribe is irrelevant .. as everyone in the league will get the same. All that happens is whoever is currently advantaged will still be advantaged .. normal rules apply and we end up back where we started. A responsible director would vote for what is sustainable for his/her club and this nonsensical idea is clearly not sustainable in any shape or form.
