  1. Rant incoming.. I take no pleasure from it but .. we are absolutely honking. If there was any doubt about how important Padge was to us the last two games have exposed it big time. There’s no one in there capable of winning a tackle or passing the ball. As a result we end up punting it on to the heads of the opposition centre halves who always outjump our “strikers”. Happened last week and this. Martin tried hard but his confidence is shot to bits .. so always ends up taking that extra touch that lets the defender get back. Fed up seeing Kerr (who is a million miles away from being fit enough) moved to centre forward in a “hit it and hope” tactic that belongs in the 1980’s. It’s time for SP to pick a team and formation and stick to it. Lost track of how many switches were made today. Blair started central then went left then right .. started well but the poor kid looked confused by the end. Liam started on left then went right (can’t kick with his right foot?) .. and disappeared. He did work hard though. Is new Cammy a defensive midfielder or an attacking one? He seemed to be asked to do both .. result he did neither (but did his very best .. so not slagging him off). Winker started well but ended up rank rotten .. best summed up by him standing at the edge of the Forfar box in the second half moaning about a bad cross while Forfar broke up the park .. which luckily for him Liam bust a gut to cover. The team spirit of the last few seasons seems to have evaporated as well .. too many players arguing today. So what positives were there today? Aaron and Dillo were solid. “Old” Cammy was .. well Cammy! Steeves bust a gut again. Matty was much better playing in his usual position. Forfar were not much better than us .. but they were much more clinical at the front and back. Must win game next week.

  2. Thought both teams were dreadful, hardly a pass made in the game. Good result though and two good finishes.

Agreed. 2 poor teams with us being absolutely woeful yet again. We’re paying the price for retaining too many of last seasons squad .. I think most Mo supporters will know the ones. Difficult to see where a goal is going to come from and our inability to defend cross balls continues to cost us dearly. Long hard season ahead for us I’m afraid.
  3. Montrose probably deserved a point there. They chucked everything forwards in the second-half, and only an outstanding late Brennan save denied them.
We had that wee bit of quality in the final third though. Layne went full poacher for both his goals and didn't do a lot else, but when he's winning games you can't really complain.
I thought Kyle Hutton was absolutely tremendous today. I wish he'd play like that more often, because when he's battering into 50/50s and not wasting a pass he's a smashing big player.
As for Montrose. Meh. They don't look dissimilar to last season. They play some smashing football, keep possession really well but seriously lack a goalscorer, and Aaron Lennox looked very shaky today. Blair Lyons looks a bit of a find mind you. He was absolutely excellent in the second-half.

Fair summary of the game. Layne didn’t do much other than score .. what we’d give for someone like that. Lennox was at fault for the first and nearly made the same mistake in the second half. Not convinced by him at all. Think we blew it with a crazy team selection .. which was corrected after an hour by which time Rennie, Callaghan and McLean had been hooked. We probably deserved a draw but couldn’t complain about losing either as we were awful in the first half. Officials were the usual bunch of incompetents. Toss up for the cluelessness award was between the lino giving Dumbarton a free kick after the ball had bounced a good foot out of play and Yano picked it up for a throw (even Duffy was gobsmacked) or when Brennan fell over when trying to catch a high ball and the ref gave a foul (not that it mattered as McLean wouldn’t have scored the resultant tap in anyway).
  4. Not had a go at the Manager before but that shambles today is completely down to rank bad management from McKinnon. Started off with the wrong tactics, far too narrow, and ended with no tactics at all just a punt and run mess.
Huge gaps in the midfield, hardly a surprise the lad Grant got man of the match as he had massive amounts of time and space to play his game.
We won’t be close to winning the league with this manager unfortunately.

As a Montrose supporter who had the “pleasure” of watching Raymond screw us for quite a lot of money per week as a player can I just say that he is an absolute waste of skin and chemicals. The guy is a charlatan. He was lucky enough to rock up at Brechin when they were being funded by a wealthy supporter.. after that it’s been one disaster after another. That said .. trust in Ray .. given your squad even he’ll get you promoted
  5. Yeah was never a pen. Dillon did slip and it looked like Kieron knew he wasn’t getting the ball so fell over Dillon in the hope the ref would give it.

Thought Martin Rennie looked decent for Mo today!

Martin seems have suffered a huge loss of confidence in the last year. Has a great first touch and can hit a great dead ball but for some reason always takes the wrong (negative) option when heading for goal. Hopefully, he’ll rediscover his mojo .. if not .. hello juniors
  6. I’ve seen all our games other than the Stranraer game. If Dillo hadn’t been sent off against Airdrie we would’ve got something. Falkirk beat us because Seagull fkkd up ., they were not much better than us. Today we should’ve been 2 up before they scored .. with their first shot on target. That said .. we need to get some points on the board so next week is crucial. Ps: get Cammy back to right back .. he creates so much more there than shoehorning him into midfield.

  7. You were very good defensively till the last 20 or so but we did have two pretty good chances in the first half despite this. If you had scored from the header at the back post first half it could have been a different game, to an extent. You were set up perfectly to sit in with 10 behind the ball for the most and counter. We had one where, it at least looked to me like Fleming made a good save 1v1 from Bowie, then Anderson just before ht could have done better at the edge of your box, having done the hard work.

By the time Bowie got the first, he was blowing out his arse, as much as your defence was. He was rightly motm today Imo. 16 years old and doesn't look out of place. We probably could have had a penalty aswell when Bowie was brought down in the second half.

We do have Vaughan and Dingwall to come back from long term injury, aswell as Robbie Thomson. Hopefully you're right.

Didn’t realise Bowie was that young .. you could have a talent there if he develops properly. Honestly, the Anderson chance at the end of the first half was the only one you had. As for the penalty .. I was too far away to judge . Looked like Dillo slipped and your guy fell over him. Think this league could be much closer than playing budgets would suggest.
  8. Aye your probably right.

Bit boring on here when we win. Has a single mo fan posted since the game?

Ok I’ll be the first to bite. Thought we played well given our injury list. For 80 mins Raith struggled to create anything .. whereas we could’ve maybe should’ve scored twice. Once you scored we lost the plot. Message to us is simple .. need to be more clinical. Think Hendry looks like a player .. other than that I think you might get ahead of Falkirk if you’ve got something in reserve .. as they’re not very good.
  9. Nothing between the two teams in the first half. A couple of half chances and saves by the respective keepers. Then right on half time the lino gives a penalty when Dillo and the Airdrie forward tangled as the chased long ball in the box. The boy goes down .. not a single appeal from anyone in white .. the ref is about to waive play on until the lino gets in his ear. Penalty and then to compound it Dillo gets sent off. Would need to see the video but it looked ridiculously soft. I’m not sure but the link looked like the same one that gave Forfar the penalty that never was in the cup game earlier this year. What followed was possibly the worst penalty attemp ever seen. Second half Airdrie started better .. got a deflected goal and from there on in it was all Montrose. Hit the bar .. and their keeper made a good save but it was all for nothing and Airdrie held out for a lucky win.

  10.  Grim second half for Montrose today. Awful referee, but even accounting for him, Forfar were comfortably the better side after a bad start for them.
    Match Report

Ach it was a weird game. Started with a makeshift midfield .. scored when Forfar were on top .. should’ve been out of sight by 20 mins in. Then the teenager in black decided to intervene. I could just about see where the first penalty came from .. but very very soft. The second was hilarious .. Dillon gets pushed by a Forfar player ..and seemingly the ball hits his hand .. ref blows for halftime. Lino must’ve said something in his earpiece .. result another penalty. Second half we never turned up and Forfar cruised home. So what did we learn? Kerr Waddell is at least a month and a stone in weight away from being fit. Our starting midfield picks itself .. it’s not what we had today .. and we need another striker. We struggle to defend cross balls .. all 4goals were the result of not defending crosses. Same story in the Arbroath game. The ref was stinking .. but in his defence his 2 linos were absolute muppets. Especially the guy who gave the second penalty. Flagging for a foul when the Forfar left back fell over his own feet .. which then led to Foxy blowing a fuse and getting sent off was the icing on the cake. We seem to have one or two games a season like this .. good to get it out of the way early. Forfar looked stronger than last year and seem to have a bit more quality about them. Interesting times ahead.
  11. The team played very well last night and thoroughly deserved the win. We now have the physical strength and a bit of quality to compete with teams on our level and above. For years .. before SP .. we’ve been too easily bullied. Not any more. The signing of Waddell will provide that extra bit of muscle at the back I think we need .. we’ve been a bit susceptible to balls into the box .. once he’s match fit. A few posts back I said we need a goalie, a centre half and an experienced centre forward. We’ve got 2 out of the 3 .. but having watched a rejuvenated Josh Skelly I’m not sure we need another centre forward. Think it would be handy but having Rossco playing the odd game might be enough. Biggest question marks are around McLean and Rennie who are, and have been for months, struggling. Rennie has ability but seems to have gone backwards .. hopefully he’ll get back on track soon. As for McLean .. I think he needs to gamble more and not wait for the ball to come his way and get angry. He comes across as too nice to play centre forward ... must be a dream to play against him.

  12. The Montrose No10 Russell McLean  think he is 6ft 5"  with a full out leap he can get up to 6ft 7". Has potential but needs to screw the heed & use the advantage his height gives him, would have liked to have kept him but he was not an automatic choice with us at the time.

Nah you’re wrong. When he jumps his neck retracts .. goes from 6’5 to about 5’9. I’m hoping he gets better but .....
