Considering the team we are having to put out Brown is doing absolute wonders with them.

First half hour was pretty poor but we tweaked something (or I presume so because I couldn't place what it was) and ran the game until the last 15.

Had a number of good chances to get a second on a plate from a pretty poor Morton defence but they seemed to manage to get a toe on things out of nowhere.

Disagree with comments about Morton being overly rough as we gave as good as we got.  Only real rough stuff was that c**t Baird putting his shoulder into Bryden off the ball which should have been a yellow and the suplex that (I think) Oakley did which IMO was just funny - think he got booked. Lots of niggly stuff otherwise not letting folk just go past which is fine with me.

Two more times in the Somerset Road End and then never have to go back in there 😍

I don’t think Oakley got booked for the suplex, as I remember thinking it was hilarious refereeing!

It certainly happened a good few times and more so than he did with anyone else.

I do think his positioning and reading of the game is a bit poor and thought it was very noticable how often the ball came out the left side of the pitch after he was replaced by Murphy. Maybe he needs more game time to get up to scratch with that side of things

I think he has plenty to learn,  but there is lots of potential there.

I think they are just different players as well though, Murphy is far more likely to come deeper and get involved in building play.

Thought we deserved the win in the second half and had a couple of good chances to do so.

Don't think McKenzie was too bad in centre mid.

Amartey had a couple of good moments including an assist but found him very frustrating to watch. Seemed to constantly be in the wrong position or not making a run and looking for the ball. He had large spells where he wasn't involved in the game whatsoever and spent a lot of the first half being told where to be by Brown.

I think people expect too much from wide players at times though, you can’t exactly be expecting someone to be involved in the game when we are pinging it to the heads of Baird and Broadfoot. When we gave him it into his feet he generally made something happen.

Brown wasn’t telling him where to be a lot of the time either really, it was the odd time.

I think Lewis Ferguson is a good player and he seems to be doing really well, but I also think there's an exaggeration in some people's heads about the strength of Serie A, maybe based on Channel 4 in the 1980s and 90s.

I doubt Bologna are currently stronger than teams like Luton, Sheffield United or Southampton, and there's far less clamour to get players from these teams into the Scotland team.

    A fucking insane post.

Second half was better viewing than the first, that wouldn't have been hard though. Glad to take a point although we really did have some chances for a winner that would have been huge.

Not much fun to watch but a 4 point gap to 9th and we just have to be winning on Saturday. 3 points and we are getting very close to being safe.

Still just looking forward to this season being done. Thought Amartey was our best player tonight, was surprised to see him subbed instead of Bryden tbh.

Not even sure when he last started a game, never mind played ninety tbf - although he didn’t look to be tiring.

He has clearly been hugely underused this season, I’m guessing Brown has done lots of defensive work with him since coming in though.

McBurnie should be a really good player, he has the physical attributes and the ability on the ball, but there is something that hasn't ever clicked for him in his career perhaps mentally, and he's typically ended up making whatever team he played in worse. This has probably been his best season at top flight level, but even then his team are rock bottom, he's only scored four times from open play, and they haven't won in any of the games he's scored in.

It's a similar story for Scotland, 16 caps, and not only has he not scored a goal, but Scotland have only scored once in the entire 750 minutes he's been on the pitch. Cracking penalty in the shoot-out that took us to the Euros though.

I think he falls into the same category as Hardie, Conway etc in that they haven't anything like an outstanding enough season to think about dislodging any of the others from the squad.

I really don’t see what physical attributes or ability on the ball that he has that should make him a really good player tbh.

He always looks absolutely woeful on the ball, has a horrific touch and is built like a rake with no pace whatsoever.

He is good in the air and that’s about it.

I haven’t watched him recently, so this may have changed I guess - I’ll probably make an effort to watch one of his games soon.

    McBurnie scored again.

It’s hard to define McBurnie as a footballer, good in the air but dreadful with his feet?

Like a less mobile but better goal scoring Lyndon Dykes…

We could have just swapped McHugh for Smith.

I know you dislike Chalmers but c’mon…

I know who I would rather bring on, there is maybe an argument to bring Smith on after sixty or so but I would be doing whatever gets Chalmers on the park. It’s obvious Brown wanted more work rate in there, with us only having two.

Brown made a comment about Tomlinson saying he has a lot of work to do on the defensive side of his game if he is to play right back. Personally I thought he looked OK against Airdrie playing further up the pitch but as the first half went on he started to fade out the game. I don’t see the merit in making him a right back so early in his career when he could be a perfectly decent winger.

    Okay is very generous tbh.

I think his issue is that he looks like he can offer something driving from deep when there is space in front of him, but he doesn’t really get that unless he is playing as a wing back or at full back. He looks pretty lost playing at right midfield when someone is defending against him, but he obviously also looks lost defensively. He also seems to panic when he is under any kind of pressure and just plays it wherever he can.

Chalmers is 24 and hasn’t played anything other than loan football. His development phase is over. There’s no scope for improvement.

He's immense here and there but anonymous most of the time.

I worry that us trying to tie down Chalmers to a deal will be like trying to get Adeloye again. Fixated on an inconsistent player at the expense of just focusing on  bringing in 3-4 half decent players at this level.

    What are you talking about?

Are you trying to say that players stop developing as soon as they hit the age of 24…

People are being blinded by a form dip in the second half of the season and him then being injured, he isn’t anonymous most of the time.

Might be so but he still isn’t worth the money it would take to sign him. If the likes of Dunfermline or Raith want to spend that cash on him next season they can. I don’t see how he returns enough to warrant it.

I think he is and we don’t actually have any idea what it would take to sign him  - signing actual football players helps sell season tickets, there is potential there for resale value and if he maintains his first half of the season form for longer he is one of the best players in the league.

If we don’t sign him, we certainly won’t sign anyone any better.
