I love Neil McCann but f**k off if you don't think a professional footballer that is supposedly one of the best in his country (and I love McGinn) doesn't deserve to get a boo when kicking a corner straight out for a goal kick as we are getting beat by fucking Northern Ireland.

How the f**k does one of our best players in recent times deserve to be booed by his own fans for a shite corner in a friendly.

I'd like to win the diddy cup....

Depending on McAllisters injury, could be without McAllister, Reading and Musonda.  Add in the McGinley mystery then it will probably  be a back 3 of Stanger, Sanders, McGinty...

I struggle to see us beating anyone if we need to line up with a back five including Tomlinson, Murphy and Sanders. Particularly if the players in front of them include McKenzie and Bryden.

That isn’t a dig at the formation, as I don’t know what else you do either.

I suppose there isn’t any point playing utter shite and then having Dempsey on the bench, so I would maybe just play a back four of McHugh, McGinty, Sanders and Stanger.

Amartey, Dempsey, Syla and McKenzie in front of them and ideally Willoughby and Dowds up front. If Willoughby is still out then I guess you just push Amartey up one and have to bring Bryden in.

I don’t think that team will play but still.

I mean assuming we just have whoever is signed on for next season we’re looking at minimum

    GK - New GK/Mutch

    RB - New RB/Watret

    LB - New LB/backup LB

    CB - Stanger/McGinty/New CB/New CB

    CM - Dempsey/Syla/New CM/New CM

    RM - new RM/Tomlinson

    LM - Murphy/backup LM

    ST - New ST/Rose/Bryden/McKenzie

fillers - Ecrepont, Donnelly, McGeady, McRoberts, Guthrie

probably why I’m more willing to give Reading a contract so we just have to focus on getting the one LB then 2

We desperately need to get Bryden out on loan and get rid of Rose. Having those three as forward options signed up for next season is hugely depressing.

I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt that he’s doing it due to injuries and the fact that our defence is absolutely piss thin. I can genuinely see a mass overhaul coming in that area with Stanger the only one surviving and that’s more down to his age and the fact that he has shown potential this season. Everyone else can f**k off to be honest, even McGinty.

I don’t have much cause for concern for Brown as a manager though. He's done okay in his first few months. I think it’s fair to say we’re at the stage of being inconsistent in terms of results which is an improvement on being consistently shite. Ultimately I think we’ll finish 7th or 8th.

Yeah - my concerns about him aren’t really as a manager, more just in terms of what I want to see. I’m sick of rancid, defensive football and prioritising players that work all over the pitch over anything else.

If it continues next season it’s not something I’m willing to regularly pay to watch anymore tbh.

I guess that there will be workers out there with more footballing ability than McKenzie or Bryden though, we have just struggled to find them!

One question you have to pose to Brown would be the full outfield contingent back for corners at 2-1. We had all 10 outfield players defending with QP 2 or 3 players staying back. You could see Amarteys frustration as he kept shouting about staying upfield to be told no and defend a certain area. Long behold we get the ball cleared and QP mopping up and continuing an attack. Fair enough if we’re defending a 2-1 lead, not chasing an equaliser.

    10 minutes ago, D'Jaffo said:

Aye this was one of my frustrations. Especially since QP had left about three players at the other end of the pitch so we had massively outnumbered them in the box. It’s impossible to clear the ball and for it not to be coming straight back on top of you.

I hate this at any point during a game, unless you are defending a lead late on.

To do it when you need a goal towards the end of a game is lunacy, particularly when you have someone with the pace of Amartey as an out ball. Just stick three players up at such a late stage.

If I’m completely honest, it adds to some of my (very) early concerns about Brown in terms of being so defensive and just setting up with workers. It isn’t a fair judgement at this point, as we won’t know until next season but it concerns me that the mentality is defend first at that stage of a game…

Aye considering we’ve got three players at the club who can play left back (to varying degrees of competency) and all of them are unavailable. I do wonder what Brown would’ve done with Ecrepont though? Would absolutely be using him now.

I do find it hard to judge any manager on what they do in January. It’s a ridiculous month and clubs very rarely strengthen what they have unless they get lucky or spend money. Looking at the business we’ve done, Brown has only really replaced guys that were recalled or guys he straight away deemed not good enough. We definitely haven’t improved on any positions but I wouldn’t say we are outright poorer in any areas either.

I think he needs to be ruthless in the summer and give himself enough scope to build his own squad.

Yeah - he would be starting now and be an improvement on McGinty and Musonda out there but that’s about it.

I don’t really blame Brown for January, we don’t really know how much involvement he had either. Sanders looked like a decent signing which hasn’t materialised while McGinlay appears to have been a desperation signing - one that is very much on the wider recruitment issues.

We are definitely poorer in the full back areas post January though.

That's what concerns me, the players he has brought in so far, do not fill me with confidence. There seems to be a chain of thought that he will replace most of this squad with a higher quality. Is that level of player going to want to come here if  we struggle to remain in the league? Look at what we signed after finishing 2nd last year- Murphy the only decent shout and a handful of hit and miss loans. Will Brown be allowed his own recruitment over the existing method from Mathie and Glendinning? The clear issue this season is the obvious clusterfuq of recruiting/lack of recruiting necessary positions. I don't see that changing much and we will be no further on. We seemed to look on the up after bullens exit and played with structure and discipline. Now we have centre forwards playing full back. Airdrie, Raith, Morton, Arbroath, Dundee Utd, Partick ,Dunfermline the remaining games and after today I don't see many points for us from that run in. I hope to be proved wrong .

The January signings of McHugh, Clarke, Sanders and McGinlay certainly seem to be following the pattern of the season. Two shite, one okay in Clarke and the jury is very much not out on McHugh after that ckusterfuck of a performance from him today.

Letting Finn Ecrepont go so early in the window continues to look like an appalling bit of business too.

I’m guessing Murphy is still carrying an injury.  He was certainly ineffective in the first half.  Not sure what to make of Amartey.  Bullen and now Brown just don’t seem to fancy him.   I can’t say I’ve ever seen that much in him - he surely deserves more game time, but it’s hard to avoid the suspicion that we’re grasping at straws a bit.  Looking at the bench, I’m not sure there was much we could have done to change things.  There was just a fundamental lack of quality throughout the team.

Absolutely - the squad today was a pile of shite.

We are definitely grasping at draws and I don’t think we are talking game changing differences but he is evidently better than Bryden and McGeady.

Bryden won’t produce what Amartey did against Raith in that position in his entire career. He has started once since then - a game in which he produced one of our better individual performances this season.

So far Brown feels a very similar style of manager to Bullen so I don’t buy into the not rated by either Brown or Bullen thing. It’s work rate and energy before anything else - if anything Brown seems to value that to a greater extent so far.

  9. 2 minutes ago, Nelson said:

Honestly not sure what miracles people expect from Brown.  The players he had at his disposal today were just woeful.  No amount of formation changes can overcome that.

Not taking off Jamie Murphy, playing Bryden over Amartey, introducing McGeady before Amartey or playing Fraser Bryden as a left wing back for a start. He has inherited a shit show, but he doesn’t need to make things harder for himself.

  10. Trying to search for positives, it was nice to see Tomlinson come on and have a couple of nice moments - especially as I’ve said on here I wasn’t sure about what he offered other than running in a straight line with the ball.

The cross into Dowds in particular - but a couple of nice touches too. Possibly a better option that Bryden in the wide positions.

  11. The lack of updates in terms of the injuries is a disgrace at this point tbh.

We have two guys with potentially season ending injuries, a new signing who disappeared today when we needed him and then Dempsey and Chalmers randomly disappearing too - not a word about any of it.

Just put out an update FFS.

And Callum, ask him if Murphy was injured!

It’s only one player that we’ve heard he has an issue with though? And it was someone who was letting the team down. Brown obviously has high standards and wasn’t prepared to wait it out until the summer with Albinson which is fair enough. Clarke hasn’t had a clean sheet yet (something he’s getting a roasting for on Facebook) but he’s made a lot of big saves in games we’ve won and it would’ve been 4 or 5 today without him.

I know - that’s why I said hopefully it’s just a one off. It’s not like Albinson hasn’t been a good professional with us, either as a back up or starter over several years either. There have still been strange team selections on top of that, but we’ll have a better idea next year.

I’m completely fine with Clarke starting over him at the moment.

So far the high standards only seem to apply to certain players tbh, so I’m not buying that too much. We’ll see if Sanders starts again on Friday night.

Can’t remember a player regressing as quickly as Albinson has. Doubted it at first but the fact it coincided with Timmins leaving maybe isn't a coincidence.

Clarke was getting pelters from people standing around me today. I can’t really recall him doing anything wrong since he came in. Certainly not to the level of Albinson when he was chucking them in.

He chucked one in against Dunfermline, but was decent enough today.

I do find it a bit worrying when a new manager comes in and there are issues with players who have played under numerous managers previously without any issues. It could obviously just be a one off though, and hopefully doesn’t become a pattern.

You can’t praise Brown for getting a result last week with a makeshift team and then write him off this week when that same team loses. He’s making do with what was left to him and the fact he’s managed to get wins where Bullen wouldn’t have tells me that he at least has some idea of what to do but ultimately needs a summer to be judged.

Absolutely fair to criticise some of his decisions today IMO.

Murphy certainly didn’t look injured in the first half, and there isn’t any justification for continuing the Bryden experiment out wide.

ETA, I obviously wouldn’t be writing him off - that would be lunacy but there are a couple of worrying things.
