The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

I'm certainly not "shrugging my shoulders". I happen to think that the truth lies somewhere between "financial Armageddon" and "nothing to see here". I don't think it's any secret that we have overextended ourselves for whatever reason. The main thing is that those in charge appear to have a plan in place to offset the losses. The plans seem to involve offloading high earners who are surplus to requirements and selling a couple of players. Hardly unheard of for a football team. I'll also be big enough to admit that I was wrong, if we are in deep shit. -

Absolutely this. If people think that we haven't needed to use a significant proportion of the government money, just to exist on a day today basis, then they must be living in the land of rainbows, unicorns and magic money trees. We may well have used some of it for players wages too. I'd imagine that the only clubs that have broken even after Covid have sold players for decent sums of money. -

I can assure you that the likes of Main, Tanser, Kiltie and Brophy have contributed hugely to our large wage bill. -

If that's the case, then the individuals involved should be totally ashamed of themselves. Although, if the posters of BAWA who are peddling this angle, are anything to go by, then I wouldn't hold my breath. I voted against Kibble involvement. However, the more I see of this sly behaviour, the more inclined I am to side with The Kibble. If individuals have concerns, by all means they should air their views, but they should try doing it in an adult manner. One of the posters in particular has only ever posted to criticise the club/The Kibble, and that makes me question their motives. Anyway, it's only a football club and life goes on. -

Far too strenuous an activity. Although the cheap beer on offer is a plus. -

Edited due to some sort of weird thread timing issue. -
Factor in a dive by Boyle in the build-up too and I think you're onto something. No idea how this will go. Our away form hasn't exactly been scintillating. We'll give you loads of the ball and try to hit you on the break. Barring injuries I'd imagine we'll have virtually the same team as last week, with Big Dec and Tanser possibly replacing Gogic and Tait, if fit.

Ref Watch: Was it harsh to rule out Ayunga's goal? | Video | Watch TV Show | Sky Sports -
Fine margins and all that. Making the goals a few inches narrower and smaller at training should sort it.
-
Shows how well Ayunga did when he pickpocketed Smith and hit the post. Very unlucky. That's a couple of times we've hit the inside of the post and the ball has deflected unfavourably for us.

Lewis wasn't dreadful. Like Shaugnessy he made a few mistakes . He didn't suddenly become a bombscare, and I'm sure if Roos was injured he would be, like Shaugnessy, a more than able replacement. -

It's all about opinions and the only one that matters is Robinson's. Happily his team selections, for the most part, seem to be working. A similar scenario is Joe Lewis (the captain) at Aberdeen being replaced by Roos. As I said it's hardly an unusual situation at a football club. -

Indeed. I love Big Joe and it's great to have him as back up just now, but I think the writing is on the wall. Maybe he'll get his chance, but it looks unlikely. -

Gogic plays centre half for his country. Robinson stated when he signed him that he was signed as a centre half. He started out at Hamilton as a CH. He's a CH who can play in midfield equally well. A great player to have. He was extremely solid yesterday. Marcus Fraser also played CH regularly whilst at the green bigots and Ross County. He's another who can play two roles equally well. I had my doubts about him at CH, but with Gallagher (and Gogic) alongside him, happily he seems to be performing way above my expectations. What's there to wonder about Shaugnessy? I think it's obvious that Robinson prefers the others to him. Hardly an unusual managerial decision. Given our good start it's hard to argue that Shaugnessy deserves a place in the team. Gallagher is injured. -

It felt longer, but still highly dubious as to whether it was in the APP or not. Therefore, it was a poor decision by our "finest" officials IMO. -

It all boils down to the "Attacking possesion phase". VAR: Attacking possession phase explained (premierleague.com) There's no way, even if Baccus' hand contact was deemed a foul, that it happened in the APP. There should be a couple of referees sitting tonight thinking, "I must do better". -
I hardly noticed that he was playing today. Which is a bit sad given how much talent he has.
-
A superb signing. Eight tackles to overturn possession today and never tires.

This what our goal today was disallowed for. The incident happened about 45 seconds before we "scored. -
Even my wife, on the basis of one replay, thought it was a penalty. She might be better at officiating than McLean or whoever is doing VAR. It looks an even worse decision the more replays you see. Still, it's against one of the bigot brothers, so it's all good.
