Why are they putting Grey and Budge in charge of a reconstruction taskforce? Surely that's a massive conflict of interest.

Presumably it's optics. It's handing over to Budge to come up with something workable that 11 other Premiership clubs will vote for.

Was her suggestion last week not a 1 season temporary expansion? I'm sure everyone will be on board with more relegation places like.

They were released on Twitter pretty much at the exact same time as Gardiner was matching things it said on his radio appearance on an almost word for word basis.

This contradicts the previous messages though:

Eric Drysdale was in a chat with Gardiner etc.

    Now it's John Nelms personally.

Strikes me as a lot of shite.

Sound. I delete that post as you'd kind of answered my question anyway.

Could they not just add it to the normal buy tickets online bit? I prefer to have as little contact as possible with them.

Is it Ticketmaster your lot run your tickets through? We announced a fundraising thing yesterday with proceeds going to a local mental health/suicide charity, community trust etc and like you say the donations are being run through the online ticket platform.

Granted we're making a 'thing' of "buy a seat" but in principle you'd think you'd be able to set up a similar item on whatever you guys use.

  4. Aye, fine with that. Going by Fry's comment it sounds like we're waiting on the season being called before we can conclude. Nominal fee as well.

Add #TONY for another year and we're actually in not that bad shape.

Here's our squad that are contracted for next year and beyond (not including the u18s):
    GK: Carson
DF: Grimshaw, Carroll, Gallagher, Mugabi, Devine
MF: Campbell, Turnbull, Polworth, Donnelly, Semple, Cornelius, O'Hara (TBC)
    FW: Hylton, Seedorf, MacIver

I'm aware of how qualification works, but the point is that we don't know what format (if any) they'll be qualifying for.

While the league can't force them to do it, I think it would be a fair trade-off and an act of good faith not beyond our clubs to agree that the other clubs will nominate those clubs to play in Europe on the understanding that any base fees for qualification for group stages will be split among the clubs.

It's not impossible to do and it would be a reasonable act of give and take. These clubs haven't achieved what they are looking to be rewarded for.

Season tickets for the 2020/21 campaign are now available to buy.

These are unprecedented and uncertain times. We hope that all of you are well and staying safe.

As things stand, our club finds itself in a relatively strong position. But it is not immune to the threat which exists. For us to thrive, we all have to pull together. Like we always do.

To help us plan ahead, we are asking you today to renew or buy your season ticket for the 2020/21 campaign.

To buy, please use our online purchasing service at tickets.motherwellfc.co.uk if you can. You can also call us between 10am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, on 01698 333333.

We’re freezing our season ticket prices from 2019/20. And, again, we are offering Early Bird pricing, giving you a discount if you are able to renew between now and May 31.

Additionally, in light of the ongoing uncertainty over whether the current season will be concluded, everyone who buys a new season ticket will be given free entry to our first UEFA Europa League or Scottish League Cup fixture.

We understand there are unanswered questions, including what will happen with the remainder of the 2019/20 season. As soon as this becomes clear, we will let you know what the decisions of the football authorities are.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN, JIM MCMAHON

    Saturday 04 April 2020

I wanted to follow up on the recent statement by the Well Society which was so well received by our community and outline where we are as a club.

The position we find ourselves in is unprecedented. The combined effects of the Covid-19 outbreak and the consequential economic disruption is an unpredictable event with potentially severe consequences. It hasn’t happened before. There is no map which shows the way out. There are no set of instructions we can follow.

We go into this in a relatively strong position. For our club to thrive, it needs all the component parts: the board, executive management, coaching staff, players, fans and our owners, the Well Society, to work harmoniously. And since the move to fan ownership that has happened, everyone has a common purpose and all those different groups have pursued the good of the club without partiality or self-interest.

That said, the threat to the club is real and we have no handrails to guide us safely through. But we do have each other and the community we are from.

We will ensure that continues and we will be guided by a few key principles in the months ahead:

    1) The safety of all our people is our absolute priority. We were ahead of the curve in taking action to protect the health of our community. We will enact all that has been asked of us by government. We will not try to ‘game the system’ for short-term advantage.

    2) After that is guaranteed, as much as it can be in this situation, then the survival and long-term health of our club is the next key task. We are not in an immediate liquidity (cash) crisis. We have managed our resources diligently. But this is not a short-term problem in our view and we are looking at all possible funding packages to build up our cash reserves. We will update you regularly on this and can I thank all of you who are donating to the Well Society in these extremely difficult financial times.

    3) We will act decently in ensuring our future. Decently to our employees, players and fans and in particular we will continue to support the Community Trust, whose role is even more important in this situation.

What we need most just now is clarity from the football authorities. With some certainty about how this and next season will look, we can plan and take the necessary actions.

When you go into our CEO Alan Burrows’ office at Fir Park, the first thing you see is a quote on his wall which says “I shall either find a way or make one.”

There is no clear and obvious way at present. But we all have so much of ourselves invested in the club we love that we will make one. We will come through this. Whatever has to happen, we will make happen with the long-term future of our community in mind and our club at its heart.

Thank you all for your support.

    Jim McMahon
    Chairman

  8. Very "business as usual" chat in the press today - which feels a bit weird.

Gallagher saying he's open to extending his deal (it's in The Sun - f**k the Sun but Viva Motherwell has the quote).

Robinson saying we're actively discussing contracts and speaking to players in The Record.

    Quote

Robinson said: “It’s probably possible to work from home as a manager in more ways than you might think, particularly at a club the size of ours.

“We’re constantly working with budgets and there are certain things you can do on the phone that you’d be doing from your office anyway.

“We’re still actively speaking to players, discussing contracts and looking at the finances. There are a lot of players out of contract at the end of this season who haven’t yet agreed deals.

“We are also having ongoing talks with the players we’ve identified and are trying to sign. We have kept all of that going.

“We have a lot of boys out of contract.

“Some of them are in a precarious position but there’s no point in speaking to them right now because the current season might start up again.

“A lot of our recruitment is online where we can watch every single game. That doesn’t stop, we are still constantly looking.

“The players we’ve already spoken to elsewhere will continue to be spoken to. We’d already made decisions on players that we’d go for.

There's a bunch of other stuff in the interview in terms of the strength and conditioning programs Andy Boles has put in place and how we're remotely monitoring them (in between Gallagher and Watt playing FIFA clearly) and the work Davie Henderson's been doing.

Interesting. Obviously the best thing about fan ownership is that we can tell random shysters to f**k off - but it doesn't appear that we were asked :)

Given we knocked back their Turnbull offer in summer, I'd be interested to know what they were offering for the entire club.

Tbf, the original story (re: Hearts) was Stephen McGowan's and ran in the Scottish Daily Mail. I'll not link to it because...f**k the Daily Mail but looking at the spiel below it seems like they're generally just looking for opportunity and want to sit down and get facetime with prospective clubs who might be interested in their investment, they were the mob who were in for Thistle prior to the Weir fan ownership shambles - they also sound like absolute worst c***s tbh.

Speaking to Sportsmail from Florida he said: 'We want to take this opportunity in the current environment to say to clubs in Scotland, we are open for business.'

'We are hearing there might be more flexibility with regard to dual ownership, which might be a good thing during this difficult period for clubs.

'We can move fast for the right opportunity in the Scottish league and we are open to creative deals.'

'We would look to bring the same methods we employ with our other clubs such as Barnsley - which is a young team, data-led, balancing a budget sensibly. We would look to run a club as a proper business.

'To that end we have told the SFA and the league to feel free to get the word out that we are open to conversations with Scottish clubs.'

'We spent a lot of time on Partick Thistle and it was disappointing it didn't come off,' Conway admits.

'I was in Glasgow four times and I had a vision for the club.

'Unfortunately since then their backer has passed away and the club has passed to fan ownership.

'The issue then was that a lack of SFA flexibility with regard to dual ownership and then there was a side issue with the owners trying to sell real estate around the stadium that we really weren't interested in.

'But we are already in England and think we can make a Scottish club younger, more competitive and self sustaining. If the right opportunity comes up we would be happy to do so.'

Our name appeared in the follow up story that ran yesterday in the Mail with Budge confirming there had been an approach to Hearts that had been kb'd and the article saying that we were the other club they'd "made contact" with and were "poised to reject" an approach to sit down with them. The BBC article saying we'd also told them to f**k off ran far later in the day.

Tbf if their model is "we can make a Scottish club younger, more competitive and self sustaining." then I can see why they'd like the look of us as an option to add to their portfolio but equally we're already doing that without their involvement - so other than financial backing I'm not sure what the incentive would be for us to hand over profits to owners rather than reinvesting in the club.

Fwiw - here's Chien Lee's Wiki which gives a fairly detailed list of the number of clubs he/his investment company have tried to acquire - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chien_Lee
