The decision to scrap the academy was still the right one IMO. Yes, everyone can point to 4 or 5 players who’ve gone on to do well over a 10 year period but there was very little at all that came through beyond that. There was nothing at all that came through in the run up to the closure.

The fact that Hartley signed a load of shite doesn’t make the strategy itself wrong. The money spent on the academy would be far spent  better paying higher wages(and even small transfer fees) to young guys with potential.

Think you are in the minority with that viewpoint Latapy……………...short sighted at best...………..anyway time for us to move on to pastures new...……...onwards and upwards (hopefully)

  2. Did anyone else notice on Saturday that during an injury break in play around 20 minutes into game that Paul Paton was gesticulating to McKnnon that we were being exposed by lack of width, which probably most of us apart from Stubborn Ray noticed after 10 mins yet took him another 50 mins & two goals later to do something about

  3. 48 years ago today in terms of Easter Saturday 1971 I  attended my first ever Bairns game & we won 2 - 1 v St Mirren & Brockville

My only memory was that it was a glorious sunny day like today - so 2 children & 5 grandchildren later looking for same result against another Renfrewshire team

Disappointing news for everyone involved with the club. Certainly not impossible for the SFA to be at fault here. I hope we're consulting with a top legal team to get this resolved in our favour.

Guess our legal bill for this financial year will be above budget and wonder if this has knock on effect to the recruitment funds set aside for January?

Bia bi was like playing with a man down. How he got a move to Swansea is beyond me.

Bit harsh Edi as he is playing regular for Swans under 23s and in fact is playing in Europa Cup tonight at that level against Villareal which is live on Swans TV.

For what it's worth I personally believe that him and Ryan Blair along with the RB down Liberty way would make a huge difference to our current predicament

Pure speculation - the budget for 2018/19 is gone. The money set aside to bring in another striker was used to pay off Hartley.  There is no money to pay off the backroom staff (and there seems to be a lot of them). As the team can't be changed substantively, the Board will be budgetting for declining crowds in the months ahead so it's likely there will be no extra money in January either.

So,  the applicants are being told they can't bring a staff with them, they can't bring players in until at least January and even then it will be one in, one out.

    Not good.

In truth if the one in one out methodology is as positively robust as the negative fall out from the summer clear out then we will be quids-in.......................says the eternal optimist in me!!!!!!!!

Here's a flashback for the older amongst us and a lesson for the young uns.

With apologies to @Roxanne's man if still around.

Stainrod, McGivern, May, McWilliams. What a fucking team, right enough.

What a wonderful memory - if I recall correctly a balmy Monday evening too

My abiding memory is the Super Simon cross for Sammy to score the second - pure class as he used outside of right foot going down left wing when he could have easily used his left foot

Right my take on the game on Saturday? Iffy for much of the time, ostensibly, but dare I say it I saw seeds of something beyond. The criticism of Sammut beggars belief.  It's ages since I saw a Falkirk player spread the ball the way he did, finding men at distance with ease. In such a way, if we'd won it would have been a general topic of conversation. The guy's a class act - or will be.  I actually thought we were a group of interesting players waiting to be a team. Mackin will be a great player for us, make no mistake - better than anything we've had in a while.  It's ridiculous to appraise the value of players without considering the effort of those around them. So let's just give it a bit of time.  Although a lot of what I saw on Saturday was sloppy when they did good things, it was classy good - and in two months time we'll appreciate that..... maybe.,...!

At last a post with a modicum of proportionality.

We have but I think mostly (AFAICR) was results we got with a fat better falkirk team.

As for being sad about away to ibrox, this is exactly what I would want. If your gonna see team beat this mob, may as well be on their own turf with 800 or so out of 40,000+ of the hardiest bairns you can find. Would be delightful to get a result.

Wondering if anyone knows what the SC rules are on ticket entitlement as in England (& Wales) the away side can take up to 15% of capacity?

Recall the last cup win there in LC with Ritchie getting two goals and if my memory serves me right we had all the lower tier of Copeland Road that night

Another repeat of same with 3000 Bairns in ecstasy and Sibbs replaced Stevie Fulton with through ball to the Jak instead of Richie for the winning goal

It happened - Cadette was responsible for the booing by committing IIRC a bit of retaliation but I can confirm some of our fans did go OTT & make monkey chants.

Thanks for an honest report of what happened that day..............sad but again it was a small minority and I for one would never tarnish the good name of St Mirren because of the behaviour of a few uneducated individuals

he was abused but he wasn't racially abused and he admitted that himself after the game.

Totally inaccurate Holly as I had the dubious privilege of sitting in the main stand at Love Street due to being hosted as part of local hospitality. I was personally enraged by the monkey noises which actually came from the standing area in front of main stand and actually let my host a Saints Season Ticket Holder know my feelings about the outrageous racial abuse Ritchie suffered that afternoon.

Don't let selective memory and hearsay get in the way of the truth Holly

That will do for a start! Still need a striker as the Geordie lad is a big risk and not a proven hit man. Kidds showing on Saturday gives hope for midfield. The boys never a full back

He could be a Maccam not a Geordie given he's from Sunderland

Thought about a few successes from the North East area - Paul Rutherford & Scott  Sloan come to mind - if he proves to as effective as them  I for one will be satisfied & note I didn't mention Carl Finnegan in that group of positive impact players ..........!!!!!

All irrelevant, he is on daft money at Swansea.

He was a class act imo

Agree BPM but Josh Sheenan could be affordable & led to believe he is a class act at centre mid & exactly the kind of playmaker we need just now

If we get Dan James to fly along the wing beside him we might well be able  to salvage our pride & stay up without need of playoffs
