  1. Couple of QOS related answers on Pointless last night. Michael Keaton films  - "A Shot at Glory" didn't get a mention but surely pointless...

And the final question was Scotland hall of famers (a bit topical this week) for which Ally McLeod was a pointless answer. I also picked out Zaire as a pointless country Scotland played in World cup finals. I am so going to wipe those smug grins off Zander and Richards faces one day.

As I have said before, Stats can be turned and used in any way to highlight a point.

everyone will make their own minds up how we are doing this season.

The league will be very close this season so a couple of wins in a row will propel you up the league quickly.

Aye but I think you kind of lost the point of the original posting in all of that. The question wasn't why YOU go, its why do other people not.

The most exciting games we have had for years and still numbers drop.
    i don’t understand !!

Winning team on the park = more fans. If we can climb the table and perform more consistently im sure the attendances will improve. Although maybe not as much as they would have in past years.

From a personal perspective I get to as many games as I can but as a central belter its usually more away than home. Despite Dobbies heroics, I don't sense any great optimism from the club that we might get promoted this season. We've got a manager that many still aren't convinced about, a defence that's clearly short of a Thomsonesque leader and its been a few years since we've had a midfield that I was really excited about. Shipping 3 goals at home in 30 minutes to Alloa isn't really form to get people excited despite the ensuing Dobbie hattrick. I feel bad for not feeling more optimistic but its clear from the crowds that I'm not the only one. How many league games have we won so far out of 8?  2! and both of them in the space of a week end Aug/start Sept. If we don't beat Dunfermline in a fortnight it'll be nearly two months since our last league  win by the time we play Falkirk again  in the last week of October. Don't get me wrong I'll still be along to see some more Dobbie heroics but optimistic enough to shell out £30-40 to get to every game? Nope. Heck - this time 2007/08 season I  got 400/1 each way on a bet on Queens to win the Scottish cup - that's how optimistic I was back then!

  4. Problems were wide where both Harkins and Stirling had poor games and offered no help to the full backs and did nothing going forward.

I wouldn’t disagree with your overall conclusion but watching both 1st and 2nd goals back again, it’s Stirling that’s covering the left back position (not very well) and our left back Marshall is well out of position. For me Stirling and Todd were doing too much defending. Harkins just had a mare and should have been hooked.

Todd was good today, Mercer was really good I felt though. Miles Storey on the left wing never got much against him. The first 2 goals came from Christie Eilliot down the right, while the third was just a brilliant finish. Mercer, going forward, was a threat (to an extent) as well. He gave everything. It’s amazing to see how far he’s progressed since being somewhat a liability last season.

We were completely overrun in the middle of the park in the first half. Todd was nowhere to be seen. He took his goal well and had one run where he then passed the ball to a Thistle player. He's been very good recently but I'm genuinely gobsmacked folk think he gave a MOTM level performance yesterday. He was easily in my bottom 3.

Totally agree. I thought Todd spent far too much of his time in our own half, in part covering runs forward from Marshall. I'd much prefer to see Todd making these runs. He's shown he can unlock defences if given the chance. Don't see Marshall having that impact.

On the discussion of CM. That's two weeks in a row I've found myself extremely frustrated with Jacobs. Two or three times today he got into great attacking positions and similarly he did it last week once or twice. But when he gets there he has absolutely no clue what to do. You have to believe if it was our attacking minded midfielder something could come from these opportunities. If you don't know what to do up there get fecking back Jacobs emoji38.png

To be fair Dykes showed as well that when presented with the opportunity to have a shot his first instinct is to look up to find |where Dobbie is. Wasted a couple of decent chances yesterday. Won a ton of headers though but how many did we use ?

  6. I was surprised no one else seemed to mention it but yesterday was 10th anniversary of that never to be forgotten trip to Copenhagen. That must rank as one of the best away trips ever. There has been a lotta water over the caul since then in terms of managers/players/stadium re developments.

I was back over in July and paid my respects to “The Dubliner” which you’ll be pleased to hear hasn’t changed a bit!
  7. My first games were all cup ties -  a sunday match against East Fife which we won 1nil with a pen; against Hearts in another cup tie think we lost 2nil and the one that got me started for real on my own was against Motherwell 1980? which we won 2-0

If the next round game was a home defeat to PartickThistle then that Motherwell cup game was my 2nd Queens game but my first going without an adult.

My first game was a freebie handed out by Troqueer Primary for a preseason friendly against Carlisle which we won 3-2 I think possibly in around 77/78? My Dads first and last Queens game and one of the few times I’ve sat in the stand!
  8. I’ve made my points about the defence elsewhere but for me the disappointing thing about Saturday, was that a player like Todd who has shown some level of skill and potential looked totally shorn of confidence. I genuinely have yet to see any hard evidence of Naysmiths ability to get the most out of his players. And that’s a worry.

  9. When we beat Montrose 7-4 away on the b+q cup in the early 90s I can’t remember the order of the goals but know we went 1-0 very early (as we just caught the goal as we arrived) and it finished 3-3 before going on to win 7-4 after starting. So not sure if we were ever 2 goals down - great game though - virtually every attack was a goal.

  10. Seriously not sure you are looking at the right player. I'm 6ft tall. Jack Leighfield is taller than me. I would also have said he was taller than Alan Martin for that matter although he maybe just gives that impression by being much less stocky. Jim Atkinson and Lee Robinson were quite short for keepers. Jack Leighfield isnt.

That’s interesting. He certainly looks short but maybe it’s a comparative thing. I thought Pickford looked short in the World Cup footage but he’s apparently 6’1””. I guess it’s all relative -Thibaut Courtois by comparison is 6’6”. Hugo Lloris 6’2”.

...and by the way I’m 5’11 3/4 and have serious doubts about SD being 6’[emoji16]
  11. Yeah this pretty much. Last season was possibly a season too far as a Championship player but he was decent and probably just what we needed when he first arrived and a damn good captain on and off the park.
Hope he does well at Clyde but not too well in the Betfred Cup!

Yeah I think the problem was he wasnt deserving his place on the pitch towards the end but kept it because he was captain. But reminiscent of the Gary McAllister situation with Scotland all those years ago.

Also Dykes may win a good few headers but he rarely knocks it down to a teammate, not always his fault of course,   but flicks it behind himself where it's easily dealt with by defenders.

Agree with this. Dykes can be excellent in the air but is infuriatingly inconsistent, both during the game and game to game. He has the odd game where he looks like a player then seems unable to replicate it  . Must be a nightmare for the manager to be honest.

  13. Yes, I think thats generally fair. He admitted himself he underestimated the standard a bit but in the likes of Weatherson, Gray and Atkinson in particular (and later Bowey) he did bring over some important players. Jon Sunderland did a competent enough job for a while. We didnt start to win regularly under him though till he started bringing in guys like O'Neill and Connell, Feroz, O'Connor, McAlpine, etc.

Not saying Sunderland didn’t have some ball skills but he was a passenger most days at that level and really unable to compete for 50:50 balls. I would happily bet money that he won less than 10 headers during his time at Queens. We used to have this thing where we could trace every goal Queens lost back to a missed challenge or error by him. Queens have a proud history of effective wee midfielders but he wasn’t one of them.
