Got a "thanks guys" and head nod from Nile Rodgers as he came of stage at Belladrum this year, that was pretty fucking cool.

Met Howard Marks wandering around Rockness one year, he was only too happy to chat for a bit and let me get a pic with him. Probably helped that he was baked of his tits at the time.

I was stood in the same passport control queue as Nile Rodgers at Heathrow airport once. After a few minutes my mate worked up the courage to ask "are you Nile Rodgers?"... He said "yes"... My mate gave him a fist pump and said "respect".

Both cringeworthy and awesome in equal measure.

Yep, that's the going rate currently for those that want it now, although you'll see a range in prices.

I walked out a dealer and went for a valuation to add on my insurance and there was an 80% mark up in the 2 minute walk.

I've already put a couple of watches on a list for family significant birthdays, you live and learn I suppose.

That is utterly mental! In that case I'll put my name down for as many as they'll give me! Even just getting two and selling one would pretty much cover the costs!

I think a Daytona will be a big ask.  I’ve heard each AD gets relatively few stainless steel ones each year and they there are already a significant number of existing long established clients wanting one.  Remember, there are only 7 Rolex Authorised Dealers in Scotland.

Also, the Daytona is quite a dressy sports watch IMHO and may be a bit too flash in certain circumstances.  The Submariner on the other hand is an absolute classic that can be worn anywhere - it’s equally at home diving off a coral reef as it is at a candlelight dinner (sorry that bit’s plagiarism 🤣).

One final thing before I bore everyone too much.  When you say Submariner do you actually mean the Submariner or are you considering a Submariner Date as well?

Personally, I think the Submariner is the best choice.  It is the original and the best between the Submariner and Submariner Date as far as I’m concerned.  The Submariner Date came out a few years later I believe.

The Submariner is also the only Rolex watch in the entire collection that only has the one configuration.  Every other Rolex in the collection has various dials, bezels, diamond setting etc available.

It's the og submariner I was thinking, in my experience the date function needs manually adjusted 5 times a year and therefore it's pointless in my opinion. Perhaps Rolex do a working version though.

I go to Geneva a couple of times a year so was thinking I'll check them out there for pricing. I think the sales tax is reclaimable so might be more competitive.

If you see it in a Rolex window new, then generally it is not going up in price or its not for sale.

The submariner will come up eventually if that's what you really want, get your name on a shops list and check with them every 6 months and you might get lucky quicker.

For me it's about getting to know the best person in a store and you may have to buy something from them to tide you over/improve the relationship until what you really want comes in.

They'll let you see what they have held in the back for customers and try on and that will help you make your mind up.

    Good luck!

    Thanks.

I suppose I naively thought I could just wander into a shop and buy myself a Rolex on interest free credit there and then no bother. Clearly that's not the case.

I might go into a Rolex approved dealer and have a look at the Tudors and Omegas. I guess if I buy one they'll let me put my name down for a Submariner or a Daytona and I can save my pennies while I wait for it.

Seems like a ridiculous markup on these though - I've seen 2022 Daytonas for sale second hand for £28k, yet the RRP is £12k - am I missing something or is that the premium people are willing to pay to get it immediately?

  4. Hoping one of the connoisseurs here can help with a query - looking to make my first foray into decent quality watches, but if I'm spending a fair wedge I would rather focus on the ones that are depreciation free/light.

I like the Rolex submariner style, and therefore the Tudor black bay etc appeals, but also the Breitling Navitimer although I fear it might be a bit blingy for me.

Having had a look at a few second hand sites it looks like most Rolex will appreciate in value - is that right or am I misunderstanding? A few I've seen at a year or two old are selling for the same price as a new one and it baffles me... Why not just get one new rather than a year or two old if it's the same money?

Either way, May and Spoony both have to start, they made the difference on Friday and please to god, never let James Brown near left wing back, ever, ever again.

He needs to get up offa that thing, realise he's not the boss, after all it's a man's world, he's not living in America and he should get the payback.

Anyway, a meh 1 goal victory either way if it incredibly doesn't end in a draw.

The reason neither word is allowed through an automated swear filter on a website is because it is commonly used to target minority groups online. If the word "fe**an" wasn't filtered on here it would be used by some people to insult Catholics (or people perceived to be Catholics) in a similar way to how Kyle Lafferty used it.

If the same word is used by members of that same minority group, this is clearly not discriminatory. If a group of black Killie fans held up a banner which used that word, then it clearly wouldn't be racist in any way, so I can't see why anyone would find that offensive?

😂 What? I'm sure Police Scotland would share your view, why not test them.

    Enjoy your night man.

What behaviour though, that's the question I'm asking. There is nothing offensive or discriminatory about that banner.

Come on man. Did you spot the use of the word f*nian there? You'll note that I had to bypass the swear filter to post that word, such is the level of social acceptability of it.

You would presumably then be happy with a banner across the Moffat Stand tomorrow with the word NIGG*R, provided it was a couple of black guys holding it?

    Please.

I'm of the opinion that Lafferty should be severely punished

    does you no favours.

But I'm glad we agree that the Celtic fans responsible for that display should have been banned for 10 games

As mentioned above, Killie alongside nearly every other member of the SFA voted against a proposal which would have held clubs responsible for the actions of their supporters. The SFA's rules are proposed by and voted on by the clubs, and the clubs are the ones who did not want this.

No I get that, but it doesn't change the fact that the SFA (read: member organisations which prop up the SFA) should and could be doing something about it.

I completely understand why clubs would vote against strict liability as it absolves them from retribution for events that aren't always within their control, but it's still utter shitebaggery.

The Rangers away support should be getting hammered with bans for their sectarian singing, the Motherwell away support should be getting hammered for their little ned posse that go round smashing up the towns they visit, etc etc.

Bad behaviour like this will never stop until there are consequences applied, which is presumably exactly the motivation for the SFA dishing out punishment to players for their own indiscretions - they want it to stop. It's not an unreasonable stretch to suggest that logic should be applied to supporters as well.

As such, the behaviour of the Celtic fans in the picture I posted is relevant to the wider debate.

This you trying to catch me out in some sort of gotcha moment?

You don’t have to be offended or rattled to believe a guy being caught using a slur should be getting binned by the club

No gotcha, I'm just trying to establish whether you genuinely think the 'f' word is unacceptable or whether this is faux outrage based on who said it. If you're willing to condemn your own fans then that's fine, but you can't have it both ways.

For what it's worth, I'm of the opinion that Lafferty should be severely punished because I rightly or wrongly believe in a no tolerance approach to this type of language. By that token, I think the Celtic banner group should have been dealt with in the same way.

    Do you agree with that?

This has f**k all relevance here - first of all supporters are not under the SFA's jurisdiction, but more specifically this is an entirely valid example of a group reclaiming a perjorative term.

It's absolutely relevant. The clubs are under the SFA's jurisdiction and they're responsible for the behaviour of their support. Just look at how UEFA deals with badly behaved fans - it fines the club. Just because the SFA are too much of a bunch of shitebags to do that doesn't somehow absolve them of their responsibility.

I'm simply trying to establish whether Clown was so offended when he saw this, as the Lafferty debacle clearly has him rattled.

Anyone within the Hearts support caught singing sectarian songs should be banned from Tynecastle for life.

We hate Ayr - black b*****ds  Is that still a line in the 'We are Killie' song?

It is, but it's an accurate description if you take into consideration the meaning of the word 'black' when used in this context in Ayrshire...

Seriously though, I hear very muffled voices at Rugby Park when it comes to that part of the song these days and I don't sing it personally. I doubt it'll be a thing in 5 years or so.

Would love to see every one of the wee fannies singing sectarian songs banned from football but to compare it to the OF 40-50k singing this shite every week is laughable.

That's not accurate in my experience. I've rarely heard the 'party' songbook at Ibrox or Parkhead, it's more a problem with their away support, which makes it directly comparable in my opinion.

  14. Craig Levein was good value yesterday.

Before the Killie game, discussing Kyle Lafferty, he reckoned that Laff would go on to score double figures this season, until Richard Gordon brought up the likely 10 game ban about to be imposed on him... Levein was completely oblivious to Lafferty's indiscretion and had to ask what the ban was all about.

Not having shown himself up as clueless enough about one of the teams he was being *paid to analyse* he followed up with the gem "the young lad Armstrong is doing well... I say young lad... but I have no idea if he's young or not".

If anyone else showed this level of incompetence at work, surely they'd be reprimanded?
