  1. Any suggestions for where to park to avoid all the roadworks around the stadium?
  2. Law 8 - if the ball in is the penalty area or if last touch was in the penalty area, then it is always a drop ball to the defending goalkeeper in their penalty area. As for overturn on the Randall penalty, there is no Law to defend that.
  3. That would be just typical though - sack the manager to take the club in a new direction and then sign a former 'fan favourite' who has done nothing since he left. Really hope that doesn't happen - in my opinion, he was overated the first time he was here. Saying that, it would give me even more of a reason to avoid OTB which will go into meltdown with excitement if this were to happen. Barr wouldn't be a bad signing - but keeping him fit is absolutely vital. Have been impressed with the little I have seen of RObertson - an improvement on Celcer if nothing else.
  4. You;d probably not be surprised to hear that's nae my first net 59 of the season...I don't think some of the members at my club know my real name - haha! My aim at the start of the season was to get from 26 down to 22ish. If I can finish under 20, will be delighted!
  5. Played an open at Cullen - first time I had ever played the course despite being only about 30miles down the road. Started by hooking my drive out of bounds on the first - thought it was going to be a long day. However, I rallied and shot a gross 80 for a nett 59! Played brillantly bar 2/3 holes towards the end when I realised I was on for a score and the nerves kicked in. Got myself together for the last couple though. Broke a few personal bests with it - lowest gross, most pars and most consecutive pars. Now down to 19.8 which is my lowest handicap - started the season at 26! Delighted with how yesterday went...even if I did come second!! haha
  6. Since this cut last Sunday, I have played another two competitions which saw me cut a futher combined 1.4 so now down to 21.4 Hope I haven't peaked too early...
  7. Haha thanks! Yep - no one calls me Darren at my work's golf society, only known as Bandit! I know I shouldn'tbe disappointed after shooting what I did, but the 4-putt especially was horrendous
  8. First medal of the year for me yesterday (played one or two opens) at my new club...and I shoot a 85 for a nett 59! Handicap cut 3.2 down to 22.8. Chuffed as feck. Everything felt right and came together perfectly. Could have been lower had it not been for one four-putt and a couple of three-putts! But didn't want to be too greedy!
  9. Moved courses this year. Previously a member at Rothes Golf Course but the CSS was a killer and effecting my ability to get my handicap cut. So moved across to Kinloss GC after talking to a few mates who are members there. Have played a couple of winter opens there this year - a stableford where I scored 30 points and a team scramble. My short game has been horrendous this year so far - i have duffed all but one of my first shots under 100yrds. Think I'll need to get a lesson or two because confidence has been shot big time. On the plus side, my drivng has been immense. I bought a Callaway X-Hot towards the end of last season and its been going long and straight ever since.
  10. Hey, A group of us are going across to Portgual in September for a couple of days of golf, basing ourselves at Penina Golf Resort. Due to the hassle, we have decided to hire clubs over there instead of taking our own. Has anyone had experience of hire companies across there? Any recommendations/warnings? Cheers
  11. Delighted to win the Aberlour Open at my course today. Shot a 62 which saw me cut to my lowest handicap to date of 25.7. Golf wasnt paticularly good today, 2 sevens on the card and numerous 3 putts and my short game was horrendous. However, my driving was excellent, as was my long iron play. Managed to keep a cool head and post a great score.
  12. Win confirmed today! CSS finished 66 so no cut for me
  13. We had a heck of a job getting in - told as well about the 60 capacity but when we did get in there must have been 75/80 people there. And i counted 10 people leaving via the back door in the 15mins I was there. I appreciate there are rules and all that, but the club have stick to them instead of being rude to waiting punters, many of whom are long standing supporters who use the bar week in week out. Edit to add - hope they bring back a better menu too - as you say, it was only pies last season, but they had a good choice a few seasons ago
  14. I'm usually pretty worn there too after rounds - always wondered what causing it. Interesting couple of days golfing for me - played our captain's prize medal at home course yestereday. Hit an outward 40 (I play off 27.5) - the best 9 holes i have ever played. Only to see me blow that completely by shooting an inward 54 still - finished with a net 66, and likely to have won it so mixed feelings! Played an open at newtonmore today, shot a gross 98 for a net 70 (course par) despite on the whole playing pretty poor. My long irons were immense today, but anything within 150yrds was shockingly bad. But happy to hit par despite.
  15. My work has a golf society and we have decided to have a European outing in Sept/Oct 2014. Can any one recommend good companies to travel with, resorts etc. We are planning going for 4 days or so to Spain or Potugal. Any advice would be great!
  16. Played Nairn Dunbar GC on Thursday night in a stableford work thing. Started badly, only picking up my first points on the 5th hole. Finished the front 9 with 11 points, including, for the first time in my "career" paring a Par 5 on the 9th hole. This gave me a huge confidence boost and saw a storming start to the back 9 which include seen me go one better and birdie the Par 5 13th. Managed to score 20 points on the inward 9, despite not scoring on 2 holes. Started off in the beautiful sunshine but at the turn, the heavens opened and we got drenched. But really enjoyed myself, its a fantastic course in great condition
  17. I think Glen could do a job in the no.10 role. I see a bit of Higgy in him, and i think he really came into his game during his time with us when he dropped off the striker and played that free role
  18. http://www.direct-golf.co.uk/golf_clothing/sunderland/tour_performance_waterproof_suit_waterproofs/p14637.aspx my brother couldnt recommend these higher to me - my set should arrive tomorrow
  19. I have been given a Powakaddy Freeway Titanium electric trolley but the battery (24AH) needs replaced. Had a look online but cant see any - tends to be 20 or 26 Ah batteries or models that are compatible etc. Do i have to replace it with a 24Ah battery or can i use 26Ah etc? Can anyone provide some advice?
  20. On the way back from my Granda's funeral last week, me and my brother stopped by here for a round after i remembered your recommendation. Cant thank you enough - we had a cracking day on an excellent course, some views when you cross the road after the 6th. Needing some new waterproofs - anyone know anywhere that are selling cheap enough? My brother had Sunderland ones and he loves them so fancy getting some.
  21. Thanks Barry! Plans are to get some lessons - I already have a " 5 hole course management lesson" with the local pro (not quite sure what it all involves). I know I need to slow down my swing and also my game play in general ie take a bit more time with each shot (I'm a step up and hit it first time man) so a few things to work on.
  22. Last season was my first back after 5 years of not playing. Won an open & club medal, and got my handicap down to 26.8. This season i have new clubs so the aim is to start playing more consistently and hopefully knock some more off the handicap. Havent managed to get out at all over the winter so Sunday will be my first round since October!
