  1. A break of serve a tie-break - Murray should be happy with that. He has improved massively in the past year.
  2. Decent stream here, no need to log in. http://www.atdhe.net/live-tv-5656.html
  3. Yes, but in the pissing rain and thick fog, and with my parents, so it took ages. In fact, I think we missed the summit of An Caisteal.
  4. I don't have a problem with players withdrawing from internationals due to illness and then playing for their club team when their illness has improved. But anyway, this protracted debate is about you not believing that Murray had an illness. Personally, I'm inclined to believe him as it wouldn't make any sense to withdraw from the previous tournament, even if he's determined not to play in the Davis Cup (which is also up for debate). Ultimately none of us really know about his state of health, and what happened prior to the tie in Argentina doesn't help us with that.
  5. If he had an illness, it wouldn't have needed to be terribly bad to put him out of action. If he didn't, why did he withdraw from the previous tournament? Yeah, he probably would have made more of an effort had it been a masters or slam tournament. But I wouldn't blame him for treating them as a higher priority than competing with the UK to avoid relegation from the 2nd tier of the Davis Cup.
  6. Or maybe he was just ill enough to prevent him playing a few hours of top class sport?
  7. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby 5/10 Can you imagine what it would be like to be almost completely paralysed and only be able to move one eyelid? I can't. Fortunately I don't have to as Jean-Dominique Bauby was in such a state and managed to 'write' a book about it. Not as good as it sounds.

Would you prefer it if Ronnie O'Sullivan won every tournament?
  9. Aye, Ben Elton is practically Jeffrey Archer's double.
  10. Then you don't know what you're missing. And thinking Ben Elton is a twat doesn't mean you won't like his books. Popcorn is ok, but his more recent work is much better.
  11. The Satanic Verses - Salman Rushdie 6/10 Rushdie takes us on a journey through the fortunes of two actors after fate brings them together. Along the way we witness tales of love and faith. It's meant to be a work of literary genius, and it probably is. The problem is that it's damned difficult for mere mortals to get what he's trying to say. That said, even at a lower intellectual level it's an enjoyable read which is deeply moving in places as well as funny and thought provoking. Blind Faith - Ben Elton 8/10 Elton's novels just seem to get better an better. This one is about a world in the near future where everyone is meant to share everything - including their 'blind faith' - about themselves with everyone else. It's a satire on celebrity culture and lazy spirituality at the same time. Highly recommended.
  12. No, but if you fired rockets at civilians in the soldiers' country, or blew yourself up on a bus in that country, you would be.
  13. Chris Iwelumo is no more black than he is white.
  14. Just said the US is his favourite tourney. Not going to go down well with the Wimbers faithful. B)
  15. Legend. Magnificent tennis from Murray, barring that one game. Hope he pumps Federer in the final.
  16. For those without Sky. http://www.justin.tv/dragonboat http://www.justin.tv/xs_sports
  17. I did Ben Ledi a few weeks ago and did much the same thing. The signposting at the bottom is terrible - it basically leads you up the "down" path at the very start. I did it in clear weather though (but it was bástard windy). Exactly what I did, including losing the way on the way down. The wrong way, apparently.
  18. The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. It starts badly as Dawkins fails miserably to justify his position as an atheist. In fact, on several occasions he contradicts himself by admitting that the existence of god is not disprovable. After getting through the first few chapters (which confirmed my own beliefs as a PAP agnostic) he gets on to what he's very good at - taking religion to pieces. This part of the book is enlightening, shocking and funny. 7/10
  19. Dragged the wife out to climb The Whangie this morning. It's just a tiddler - 346m, but the book said it would take 2-4 hours. In the event we did it at a very leisurely pace in 1 hour 20 mins. Superb views of Loch Lomond and the snow-covered hills to the north and the rocky chasm on the north side of the summit is worth a look.
