Treated myself to a bottle of Glenlivet Nadurra whilst kettled at Stansted by Easy Jet tonight. Bloody flight delays always cost me in whisky. It has a wee burst of peat to it, very drinkable.

New minor victories album is magic. Really enjoyed their gig at the art school a few weeks back too. Two from Mogwai - Braithwaite and Bulloch - involved. Rachel Goswell's vocals ..!

Pretty gutted today that it seems my wee one doesnt like fish fingers, gone is my excuse to cook an amount of them a one year old couldnt dream of eating at 1130 every day then cite "I hate waste" whilst hoovering them up.
Those of you with weans of similar age, what do you give them for lunches? I feel wev got our one stuck in a wee rut of the same stuff all the time
Wraps seem to go down really well. Houmous; ham & cheese; grated carrots & raisins; falafel. Just whatever we have in the fridge. Now and again I'll sneak him a corner of my baynes cargo but don't tell his maw that!

Sakes. Nearly 40 years on this planet and I've just found out my name is tainted. Thanks Dad.

My colleague is off to Feis Isle today. Lucky sod. That's on my wish list one year.

Took in the Glasgow v Inveraray tie in the Celtic Cup semi final today at Yoker. A blistering hot day, full credit to the players for a fairly frantic game.
On arrival I thought the security was a bit OTT at the gate, but it transpired it was just the army team leaving the scene after a narrow extra time defeat in the first tie of the day.
Yoker is a bit of a plane spotters paradise, and there was a regular diversion as plane after plane flew overhead. I felt like I was in West Berlin in 1949 at times.
To the game. Glasgow had the better of the first half, and led 1-0 at half time. The second half saw Inveraray gradually step-up and it was no surprise when they scored twice in quick succession.
Glasgow didn't really get a decent chance to equalise, but will perhaps rue not making more of their first half dominance.
So Inveraray progress to their regular slot in the Celtic Cup final, a game in Taynuilt in June which I'll hope to take in. Weather like today would do just fine.

Hiya! No, afraid that wasn't me. I arrived onto the platform just before the train pulled in. Caught the tail end of your magnificent travel tale! There's worse places to get stuck than Tighnabruaich, I was stranded in Fraserbrugh once!Hi Le Tout P'ti FC. I'm the aforementioned nutter. I trust you were the fella I met at Kingussie then got on train to Newtonmore? Nice to meet you at last. I'm back to see the Badenoch league match on Saturday - how about yourself?

Isn't there one that plays in Perth, Tay Glen, or something like that?
Tayforth. They've moved to Levenhall at Musselburgh in recent years, but used to play at Perth. There's a couple of cracking tales on their Wiki page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tayforth_Camanachd
For my shame, despite their ground being only five miles from home, I've not made it to a game there yet.

Coming home from Kingussie v Newtonmore, 2-1 win to Newtonmore. All the goals came in first half, strangely subdued second half. Newtonmore still have that look of a big physical team, Kingussie were very young mainly but much improved since last season I think.
Overheard some nutter at the station talking about his commute to the recent Kyles v Newtonmore game from his home outside Perth. He is on crutches and reliant on public transport, left on the Friday, home on the Monday. As his lift to Dunoon let him down, and there was no public transport, he was stranded in Tighnabruaich for two days. Dedication!

Caberfeidh 1 Glenurquhart 5. Glens scored twice in first minute, and I think it then took 35 minutes for their keeper to touch the ball. Remarkably they only went in 2-0 up.
Glens then scored twice again in first couple of minutes after restart. So a fair old gulf in quality. The optimist would say Caberfeidh drew the other 85 minutes 1-1!
The famed pie was decent, and top marks to the deli in the square for a magic coffee!!
Found a pile of boulders up a hill - good day on the road as ever!
Next up for me is the Kingussie v Newtonmore cup tie in a couple of weeks.

Forthcoming Hugh Dan lecture for anybody in the Edinburgh area with an interest in shinty: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/shinty-an-infusion-of-highland-blood-tickets-23415006916. I shall intend to be there.
Next game for me was to be Taynuilt v Inveraray in a cup next weekend, until Taynuilt spoiled it by getting beat by Aberdour in the prior round!
So now have the coveted "free pass" for next weekend but no game to go to. May venture north to Caberfeidh v Glenurquhart to tick off a new ground, lured by these famed pies!

Back on Islay this week. With our two year-old in tow, we're not able to do many distilleries this year, but I am doing a warehouse demonstration at Lagavulin. Hoping to sample their new 8yo, just released for their 200th birthday this year.

Good game to start the season. Kyles were good value for their 5-3 win. Two strange things happened: firstly the ball vanished into a massive crater in the pitch at one point; secondly the final Kyles goal appeared to slip through a hole in the side netting. Also vanished is the Kyles guy with the massive hair, or he's had it sheared off and I failed to recognise him!

I'll stick my neck out and tip Newtonmore for the league. I think Skye will win a cup.
In Glasgow having a bacon roll before I head up the road to Strachur. Sun is shining. Life is good today!

Kyles game tomorrow moved to Strachur. Strachur have scratched from the league this year, might be the only game played at their new pitch for a while.
Camanachd Cup final confirmed as held at Fort William.

Another vote for Dalwhinnie here. Loving their winters gold release.

New season starts this weekend coming. I'm weighing up a trip to Kyles v Fort William, or Kingussie v Lochaber, to start me off. Looking forward to a road trip.

Fixture list published on Friday.
A load of cup draws today - details here: http://m.shinty.com/news/mactavish-balliemore-sutherland-bullough-strathdearn-cup-draws/. I initially thought that Tim Burgess from The Charlatans had made the draw, but no, it was Jim Barr sporting a magnificent nest of hair.
Highlight looks like Newtonmore v Lovat, in the Mactavish Cup.
For the fixture list, here follows my annual plea to Astie to give Inveraray a decent home tie on 26th March when I'm passing through on way home from Islay! Come on Astie! Kilmallie at home would be nicely done.

Cheers. My mother in law has most of them, so I'll have a Wee hunt later and pick a couple for my reading pile.
I'm just about finished a cycling book about Hinault, so in mood for some fiction next.

I've taken a fancy to reading my first Rebus. Is there any merit in reading these in sequence, or do they stand well in isolation? Doubt I'll ever find time to read all of them, so what would be a good "entry level" Rebus?

Average temperature for January is +3; average low is +1. So your definition of -7 as "typical", is bollocks.Typical Weather For This Time Of Year thread for this pish.

Absolutely tremendous game at Kyles today. 2-2 with Lochaber, Lochaber taking lead twice. Both teams will feel a bit sore at the result. Great game. I'm soaked through, it poured down. (ps Oystercatcher in Otter Ferry is a superb lunch spot)
