  1. Bad day at the office for a driver today. Ran a red light near Waverley and buckled a set of points. More or less all trains cancelled from Waverley until 12, some getting in and out through a secret tunnel or a black hole.

My train to Inverness was eventually cancelled. Now waiting on a bloody Mega Bus instead.

Coinciding with engineering works and closures elsewhere I'd hate to be in their customer services team right now.

  2. I was visiting an office recently and they had Forth 2 on. I was stuck in there all day listening to that music Woolworths sold in a 99p bin, adverts for funeral tea venues and bloody multiple choice quizzes.

You can't possibly as a visitor say for the love of Christ will you turn that shite off. So on and on it went. Awful.

  3. Kinlochshiel on verge of league title. Incredible!

Cup Final in Inverness next week and them off to Oban to see league decider week after - two big games to look forward to.

Skye promoted, Caberfeidh sweating on results elsewhere to go up with them.

    Quite the season!

A wee Hugh Dan event coming in Edinburgh for anyone with a passing interest and the ability to bunk off of an afternoon: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/broadcasting-mingles-with-the-air-of-the-glens-tickets-37656071323

On some occasions I was just too pished to write a decent review.
As some have mentioned, they are far better live than on official releases.
Also, check arcive.org and you can find some brilliant quality bootlegs, semi-endorsed (not prohibited) by the band.
    Enjoy!

Amazing that archive.org stuff. I just found a link to my first ever Mogwai show. Jaffa Cake, August 1997.

  5. Bump.
Been listening to Every Country's Sun almost non-stop.
I feel like this is their best in a looong time and some of the tunes are going to be magnificent live. The title track closer is just a thing of absolute beauty.

Totally agree on the last track. Proper goosebumps music.

I'll be at The Hydro. Also got Ride at the QH before it. The Hydro will be the gig of the year for me.

I really hope they're selling the poster image of the Hydro as a tshirt.

  6. Paul Draper at King Tuts. Yes!! If all I'm judging it on was Wide Open Space and a chance to time travel back to 1997 then that will do me. Sheer escapism.

    "Disgusting" acoustic - also v.good...

His new stuff so so. Couple of them hit the mark.

    A good night!

  7. So you didn't take him to the Meantime Brewery tour I recommended?

I did not! But I did manage to get him around Bruichladdich distillery since then so I'm making sure he's getting led astray in other ways.

  8. Good to hear you had a good time, I'm thinking of killing 2 birds with the one stone in a few weeks. My grandson is 3 1/2 and was thinking of meeting my son & partner in London - so they can have a wee break & I can spend some quality time with the wee man, as I'm only in the UK on average once or twice a year I like to spend as much time with him as I can.
Also a friend has not long taken a job as an air stewardess (total wid) based as Stanstead so could stay for a week and spend some time at hers too.
If it's not to prying, what were the highlights for your wee boy?

The thing he talked about most after the event was playing on the pirate ship here: www.royalparks.org.uk (Diana Memorial Park, how topical!). We spent quite a bit of time in there.

He predictably loved being the "driver" on the Docklands Railway, every kid would enjoy that.

And I'd hesitate to recommend it, because I know it is due to close for refit of that wing soon, but the Ahoy! kids zone at the Maritime Museum Greenwich was a lot of fun and really geared up for kids of pre school age. If it's still open, it will be a guaranteed hit.

Finally if you go in decent weather take a pair of swimming shorts, as there are a load of kid friendly fountains for splashing in.

He had a ball I must say. We only did a Fri-Sun but I'm sure we could easily have killed more time there, and we spent most of our time in Greenwich alone, so plenty we didn't see.

  9. 5-2 to Kyles and time for plenty more. First time I've seen Newtonmore this season. Quite a transformation. Feels like a proper change of the guard today.

(And as I type it goes to 5-3!)

  10. Oh no. Up in Oban for the Macaulay Final. Forgot the announcer / tannoy man gives a running commentary of pithy wee observations. "There's a good clearance." "That wee rain shower has passed." "Donald Trump is a..." (One of those is a request if he's reading.)

  11. Fair enjoyed that. Making way homeward now. Wee man had a ball. We found the required number of parks and fountains to let him run off his endless energy, I even managed a solitary pint inside Greenwich Market whilst he ate his way through a wage packet of food.

Don't tell the guys that run the helter skelter at the Cutty Sark that he's not five yet!

Different perspective taking a kid to London than going on a session or for work. Much more fun had by all this time.

    Greenwich is superb.

  12. I agree with Welshy about the foot tunnel.  I took my 3 a few times and they always loved it.  Also, get a river bus from Greenwich to Westminster and get a different perspective.
He may be a bit young for the Greenwich planetarium but if he has a good attention-span maybe not.  You should also look at what's on at The Unicorn.

Excellent. I'm starting to think I've made a good decision to stay in Greenwich and away from the middle of town. Looks like there will be more than enough to keep us both busy.
  13. Just down the road from me. If he likes animals there's Mudchute city farm which is only about 15 minutes from Greenwich (I think crossharbour is the closest DLR station). I've taken a couple of school trips there and the kids love it. I'd recommend heading round to the North Greenwich (~10 minutes by bus) and getting the cable car across the Thames. It's pretty cheap and you get a fantastic view.
As others have said Greenwich park and blackheath will be good for letting him have a run around. Slightly further afield, Crystal Palace park definitely has play areas and is also full of giant dinosaur sculptures for him to have a look at
    Hope you enjoy your trip!

Ah brilliant I'd forgotten all about the cable car. He'll love that. Thanks for tips!
  14. Lovely place to be staying mate, can easily waste a day in Greenwich. The park is well worth exploring, it is massive, plenty of shops nearby that will sell footballs etc so could have a kick about. Obviously have the Greenwich Observatory, which might well be too much for a young child, but the building itself should capture their imagination. If not there is always an ice cream van across from it.
Greenwich Market is excellent, some lovely food. Can fully recommend Ruby's Of London, usually Ruby running it, comes across as a French twat, but those cakes are worth her insufferable shite.
Trying to think of a play park, but nothing comes to mind, could well be something in Greenwich Park though.
From the market you can always hop on the DLR and go up to the likes of Heron Quays, walk to Canary Wharf and get a tube to London Bridge etc.

    Great, thanks for the tips!
  15. Off to London this weekend with my wee boy (almost 4yo). We're staying in Greenwich and planning to spend a bit of time there - Cutty Sark and Maritime Museum planned. (Please god let there be a pirate for his sake!)

Does anybody have any experience of this part of London with young kids? A big playpark would be a bonus!

Apologies in advance if you're flying Edi to London about 8 on Friday morning. He's wired about flying and we've got days of excitement to be built!

  16. The only issue I've had in there recently was when the big airside Costa was doing that bacon roll for a quid promotion and perhaps 95% of the customers were buying. Folk were getting right stressed out about who had the next bacon roll coming out the oven.

Not been in during their current Crumpet for a quid offering.

  17. There is definitely a line to be drawn.

Take the Scottish swimmer (Wallace?) in court for drink driving this week. He has been punished by the court, and he has been punished by the governing body. He is now to be supported as he continues his training. Fine.

He has been punished, he has shown public remorse, and he can be considered to be fit for continuing with his sport, and by virtue of showing that remorse he can actually act as a positive role model to others.

A sexual crime it should be very obvious is an incredibly different matter. Any football club is replete with young children and as many people on here have articulated it is totally inappropriate to have a sexual criminal around them.

The guy is welcome to make his way back into society but I can't help but feel that he needs to find a new source of employment.

In my line of work (beancounting) I would be declared unfit to practice if I had a sexual conviction and I don't see why football should hold a lower moral threshold frankly.
