Brechin for sure . Need this old traditional teams in our Scottish leagues . Kelty will definitely make it interesting if they get promoted but they will be backed heavily and will end up going the cove and Queen’s Park . Approach as soon as they reach league 2 . Will be heavy recruitment

My opinion also but maybe I’m a bit blinded by traditionalism and I will always stand up against those who bash Central park and Cliftonhill- yes they have their faults and the criticism is somewhat justified for lack of improvement in facilities. Edinburgh and Cove are in the senior game on merit but in terms of match experience it’s like watching  a game at the sports centre.

  2. It’s Brechin for me. A class away day . A lot of good people at the club despite all the Brechin bashing going on . The essence of the club goes way further than the last 4 years which a lot of their critics like to pigeon hole them. The debate over the pyramid system should go beyond “get Brechin in the bin”.

I do feel Brora are getting well underestimated in all of this particularly when the MSM are all in with “Barry Ferguson’s team” . No excuse needed now for the Daily Record to get Barry’s  opinion printed on the second back page on the next Old firm game.

Do we think the SPFL clubs would vote for further relegation?

Look at the behaviour of Brechin. Look at the comments from Albion Rovers gaffer Kerr. No chance.

Outstanding knowledge of Scottish football. Albion Rovers boss is Brian Reid.

  4. Some difference - I honestly thought at this stage we would be still battling it out with Brechin ( I suppose to some extent we still are) .
I’m assuming planning for next season has already started more than likely with the same manager. I’ll be honest I wasn’t overly sold on him - he was skating on thin ice after the cup debacle v Buckie. He’s in a reasonably strong position to demand a bit more money for the playing budget, to be fair he absolutely nailed the recruitment during the transfer window. I’m hoping the penny has dropped with the Board that you can’t put out an u-21 team and expect anything else than near the bottom. We’ll see let’s make sure of League safety first.

Brora and Kelty finished at the top of their respective leagues when the season came to an end, in the same way Brechin are likely to finish bottom when theirs ends. Not sure how that's a stitch-up, TBPFHWY.

The way L2 and HL/LL have completed their seasons is hardly comparable Jimmy. L2 agreed a completion date when nothing was in place and a resolution if the season did come to premature end. The LL broke their own agreement how to end their season and the HL ended theirs after 3 games - arguably there was still a lot to play for in their respective leagues. The two teams have effectively been nominated and the play offs should proceed, however HL/LL are in no position to lecture anyone on sporting integrity and moving the goalposts.

  6. I have happily defended Brechin especially after last season’s abrupt end but I think they’ll lose a lot of sympathy with these statements. I would love it if the won the play off and stayed up - great away day and a lot of good people at the club. I wish they would consult with their fans- the fans at clubs really step up when the going gets tough.
Their problem is they agreed to finish this season and therefore committed to whatever league position they find themselves at. In terms of fatigue I mean their players were training 5 days a week for two weeks in the run up to the league re-starting. I know the HL and LL are not squeaky clean in this and have stitched up nominations for the play off- all clubs vote for self-interest in the end. Nobody’s going to tell me that clubs like Shire and EK voted in the hope they can get cash rich Kelty out of their hair. And now Brechin want to foist league reconstruction includes the colts.
The only thing that should come out of this is there should be automatic relegation for club 42.

Has it improved at all? Is there commentary?

I still don’t use the service. From what I hear there have been improvements- the commentary itself gets good reviews only issue is it’s about 2-3 seconds ahead of the play on the screen

Aye but you can't throw your toys out the pram and threaten legal action against the league for your club being relegated for being utter shite.  Brechin City absolutely deserve to be in a relegation play off, and really deserve relegation to the HL.

Despite all the conspiracy theories , Brechin’s agreement to complete the season would suggest accepting what will be - will be. The lessons of clubs taking legal action last year I would hope have been learned. The HL and LL are no position to lecture anyone on moving goalposts and sporting integrity. The LL clubs broke their own agreement on how to finish a less than 50% season and Brora are declared champions after 3 games. In the end all clubs vote for self interest including HL/LL.  They have nominated champions so let them play!

  9. Interesting game this . Rovers didn’t half draw the short straw with the early ko. I thought Elgin were most unfortunate with the curtailment of last season - I really thought that was the best Elgin team I had seen since they joined the league and were playing really well until the pandemic hit.

Our win at Cliftonhill earlier in the season was most unexpected and we have a totally different team now compared to back then. Hopefully our away form will continue an we can pick up something to pull us closer to safety.

Two of the absolutely worst players I've ever seen in Falkirk strips were on loan from the OF.

Jason Marr and, especially, Ross Perry.

Absolute haddies. I know Marr went on to do ok for Alloa, but Perry, jeezo.

Perry and Marr played together for Albion Rovers the year we got relegated from L1 in 2018. We would’ve been better off with Morrissey and Marr in the centre of defence.

Not to prolong this, but this is more whataboutery.

Both Brora and Kelty have been nominated by their leagues to take part in a play-off. This is not contested.

The SPFL has elected to finish a season as best they can (as opposed to null & voiding) therefore the bottom side has to take part in a play-off.

There's really nothing more we need to know.

Agree with this. I don’t agree with all the Brechin bashing even last year - I mean no- one was able to play a game of football this time last season and all play offs were cancelled.I do wish to be spared from the lectures about sporting integrity and moving goal posts when the LL broke their own agreement on how to finish a less than 50% complete season and Brora winning a championship after 3 games.

Bottom line is Brechin agreed with the rest of the league to finish the current season and HL and LL have put forward their nominations. There’s not much to stop this happening.

Berwick were complacent as a genuinely appalling Albion Rovers side under a dinosaur manager (John Brogan) looked lost until January. Kevin Harper came in and really turned the place around in the second part of the season, leading a Das Boot-style recovery from the bottom of the footballing oceans. As a result Berwick, who were led by an absolutely deluded buffoon (Johnny Harvey) and seemed to get significantly worse with every performance, were lost with all hands.

Berwick were so, so bad that season that Albion Rovers' brush with oblivion has been largely forgotten already.

It’s forgotten how lucky Rovers were that season. An absolute bonkers, bonkers choice in manager. Brogan eventually stepped down after easily being beaten by Formartine in the cup. Kevin Harper came in in the November- he didn’t get a win until his 15th game in charge as we turned over an incredible 44 first team players that season. It all kick started when we had the infamous 6 point weekend- our first 3 points thanks to a points award as Clyde played ineligible Declan Fitzpatrick, we beat Stirling away that weekend and unfortunately our goalkeeping coach Gordon Dukes died very suddenly the same week. This pulled the squad together. Not to mention Berwick’s increasingly honking form which meant the stars aligned for us and we stayed up rather easily in the end .

Bet you wished AR were playing SA every week.

Do you know I’m just delighted we are on the semblance of some sort of points gathering run- not that we are out of trouble by a long shot. I thought your manager gave a fair assessment of the game (he normally) which might not what Stirling fans want to hear. Apart from QP it’s a right old tight table in both halves.

  14. Would have taken a point before the game but it could have been all three. The difference in playing budgets between the two will be night and day so probably Stirling will feel they should beat the likes of the Rovers but, you still need to earn that right. Rovers playing with a bit more purpose now and defensively more confident thanks in part to young Harry Stone in goal. 6 pointer on Saturday.

  15. Interesting game as unusually Stirling try to bounce back from a rare defeat and Rovers try and build from the excellent and much needed win at Cowden. The earlier game at Cliftonhill was quite a tight affair and Stirling have been masters of 1-0 wins. Totally different Rovers team now- only problem now as with every L2 (and L1) side is the inevitable start of injuries as the games come thick and fast. The Binos don’t lose many goals so would be more than happy with a draw.
