  1. Next weekend will be interesting - Gow at Ashfield and Carluke at VoL
  2. Lanark 3 Newmains 0 Game very much affected by the windy conditions. First half was awful. Lanark's first goal not scored until the hour mark. Newmains never looked like scoring. Good to be able to give so many teenagers a run out today.
  3. You are indeed correct, with good reason in both instances
  4. There is no doubting that a more clinical Gow could have finished us off yesterday. Gow keeper had the two excellent saves and we hit the bar. Gareth had a couple of really good saves as well as the penalty and then had a good few blocks. However, the sign of a good team is to take points from games when not playing at it's best and we have done that several times this season. I have lost count of the number of games I have come away from over the season's saying - we should have won that, but didn't. Our mentality is definitely stronger this season. Taking the 4 points from the Carluke and Gow games without Shug Kerr is an indicator that we have a good squad.
  5. We were saying exactly that after the game. You'd have felt really sore if we'd nicked it at the end.
  6. Had we lost today we could not have complained as we did not play anywhere near as well as we can. We missed Shug Kerr today. That said, we were there for the taking and, despite the 2nd half pressure Gow didn't actually create that many chances. Both keepers made a couple of excellent saves and we hit the bar near the end. Gow penalty was soft but was not a dive IMO. Last 10 mins was particularly exciting, end to end stuff with one last ditch tackle by Josh Gracie one of the highlights from a Lanark perspective. We have now played all of the top teams home and away so to have won 14 on the bounce before today has taken some doing. Not played Muirkirk who have a lot of games to play so can't assess if they are promotion contenders, other than on paper.
  7. Shug Kerr's suspension is a blow, no doubt, but every team has to play without their key players at some point or other in the season - just a pity it is in our biggest match.
  8. A game to be endured rather than enjoyed. Goal was one of the few highlights. Both keepers had an excellent save and we had one saved off the line. Very much missed our star man Shug Kelly. 14 consecutive league wins is a record to be proud of.
  9. Bad enough down here in Lanark. I hope it doesn't get farcical. Too important a fixture.
  10. If yours is off then ours may well be due to the wind. Was at Carluke station earlier and it was blowing a gale. The ball won't be still for dead balls. I believe that games have had to be put off previously due to the wind up there. We shall see.
  11. Well documented that I hate watching games on artificial surfaces. Worse up at Carluke due to it being so high and with the running track around it and all the goal nets dotted around. Great facility for the local community however. Yes, 16th will be interesting regardless of what happens this weekend. Please introduce yourself - I always stand on the far side at whatever end Lanark are shooting into.
  12. High winds forecast for the weekend. Not the best conditions to be playing up at Carluke. The ball will be more out of play than in.
  13. No chance that the Lanark v Saltcoats game will be on. Still a couple of inches of snow on the ground here in Lanark with ongoing freezing temperatures.
  14. St Ant's created a fair few scoring chances, despite the scoreline
  15. VoL 3 Lanark 4 13th straight league win for us but we played poorly. 1 down on 8 mins but equalised inside a minute. Went 2-1 up, lost an equaliser and then lost a 3rd straight after the classic 20 man Junior stramash which resulted in a red for each team. Having gone down 2 9 men after a stupid 2nd yellow for James Martin we equalised and then went on to score the winner on 85 mins. Pitch in great nick, considering the conditions and the pie was good too.
  16. Saltcoats winning 0-3 at Newmains was a surprise scoreline.
  17. Lanark 5 Thorniewood 2 Three points AND we scored a penalty. 3-0 up at half time, they get a man sent off just after the hour mark and then promptly concede 2 quick goals. Fortunately got our finger out after that and went 4-2 soon thereafter, the 5th coming in injury time. No Hallford, McCrum or Hill today and our best player this season, Cammy Lawson off injured after 5 mins. Thankfully Shug Kerr and PJ O'Donnell back. Results have again favoured us and The Gow as the gap gets bigger.
  18. Glad we have already won down there then.
  19. We were concerned about ours earlier in the week due to the frost on consecutive days but I believe that our maestro has been able to do his work and get the pitch back in shape in advance of our first game of the season v Thornliebank. Halfway through our fixtures but still not played them nor Muirkirk. Two tough opponents in the form of Ashfield and St Ants out the way however.
  20. Check out my many posts my friend and you will see me give the opposition due credit. My aim is to be as objective as I can be. We got a lucky break with the goal. I agree that on a different day Alan could have had 2 yellows. However, we scored a 'worldie' and we had one cleared off the line when the keeper misjudged a corner. I can't recall our keeper making a save of any consequence. I said we were very poor from the outset and there was not a great deal between us on the day I just don't agree you were the better team on the day. We were there for the taking on Saturday, given how we played and you barely put a glove on us.
  21. I was away getting my pie, something I never normally do, and so missed our first goal! Heard it was a howler.
  22. What?!! You cannot be serious. We were poor but there is no way you were the better team. I don't recall our keeper having a save to make. I do agree about the 2nd yellow however.
  23. Lanark 2 St Ant's 0 Our poorest performance of the season. Without 3 key players but, nonetheless, disappointing display. A better team would have taken us today. Game brightened up by an absolute rocket by young Martin Smith from 30 plus yards that screamed into the top corner. I do hope our friends from St Ant's share the footage. 11th league victory on the trot and now 5 points clear at the top, having played a game more than The Gow.
  24. Ashfield 1 Lanark 3 Excellent away result takes us to the top of the table. Our penalty hoodoo continues, Chucky Watt missing (again!) in the first minute. Lanark 2 up after 10 minutes. Ashfield keeper lucky to not get a 2nd yellow when he blasted the ball downfield after we were awarded a free kick for a pass back on 6yd box, which we converted. Ashfield put us under loads of aerial pressure which we struggled with. We could easily have come away with just a point today but we weathered the pressure well. Ashfield didn't carry the same threat 2nd half despite going in only 1 down. Great strikers goal by wee Chucky on 73 mins sealed the points.
  25. St Ants losing 1-5 to Muirkirk was a shock. We were headed to that game but decided that the cover at Arthurlie was the bigger attraction. Must have been freezing!
