  1. I'm a bit gutted we held on to Main and Erwin. I feel the are not cheap players and are eating a chunk of the budget, but doing f**k all for it. If Erwin and Jim have fallen out, I'd have thought leaving would have been the better move to get game time, not stay just to be a dick from Erwin. Erwin doesn't feature at all. Id have thought we flashes here and there would have helped get him punted in this window to show lower league levels what he could do for them. Again this could be if they have fallen out that he doesn't give him time either. All annoying. Main is frustrating. I get why Jim got him in. To bully and pest the defence. That can create space for others, but didn't. I also think he gets man handled in games too, but as he is a big b*****d, he doesn't get the fouls and free kicks he sometimes should.
  2. Interesting. How would this work? Would this be Power and Gogic together sitting deep, cutting out play? Would this be due to Ethan being inconsistent at times? Would mean Ronan not sitting as deep? If McGrath stays you then have the 3 behind Brophy of McGrath, Kiltie and Ronan?
  3. I thought Ronan playing deeper worked. He worked in what I thought as a box to box role well. I think that type of player is needed next to a more defensive minded player that cuts out play. I have felt recently, though still young, Ethan has been a bit inconsistent. I have also felt Power's passing has been terrible, but his cutting out and negative play against the opposition has been ok.
  4. Not got to see him yet, but does Grieve give us the pace we have needed? How does he differ from the existing strikers out of curiosity.
  5. Who would take Main and Erwin? Would be cash needed for Main as he is contracted to 2023? Erwin annoys me as did Jim not sign him, but never gets on the park? When he does, he has been shite... but how do we sell him to other teams if no one sees what he could do for them?
  6. Read this morning that Beerschot are looking to offload Shankland. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/...kland-puts-spfl-clubs-25889060 Would people think we should take another chance on him? Would he be better or worse than the likes of Main, Dennis or Erwin? Did he play for Utd this season that would mean he couldn't play for any other Scottish club this season apart from them as will have already played for 2 clubs already?
  7. The thing I don't get is last season we did well and we just needed to build on it. We did well with the back 4. Some games ( I think again Celtic) he changed it up and worked to the back 3. I don't get why this season to build on things you then change the system to be the same every game (ok sometimes it's 3-6-1 and others it's 3-5-2). Why not stick with what the f**k was solid. Our issues were scoring goals and goal difference. I think we are worse both ends this season. Issue is going to be you can't get anyone decent in January window and we will lose players too. I thought at times this system was going to pan out and work well, but I feel it isn't working. Strikers are dragged out of position with Hoofball. The wingbacks are people not willing to run with the ball and take someone on, so they look to pass it off to someone to then run on, Which feels narrow and exposed. The stacked midfield is missed out and have to get onto 2nd changes from Hoofball. I felt the back 4 of Tait, Joe, McCarthy, Fraser worked last season. Why f**k that up?
  8. I agree. Power is the best at breaking up play, Ronan was great on the ball yesterday (I hope for a loan to by option of sorts [emoji1787]) and McGrath to attack.
  9. Just my take on it. But last season was pretty good finish and we should really have looked to build attacking options on to it. What we lost from last season and have found replacements for: LWB - Mason = Tanser CM Doyle-Hayes = Ronan ST - Obika = Main We also brought in Power. Not sure if that was to take the place of Sheron/Foley as that I feel is the position Jim wanted them in to play. Kiltie might have been brought in as a back up if McGrath left, but hasn't. Players we are yet to replace: LM Durmas RM/LM - Connolly ST/RM - Quaner/Morias We then needed maybe 3 more in to build on last season's form, but to either fit this system or to allow the ability to change it up. Needs not met: * Pace/Creativity - LWB/LM/LW * Pace/Creativity - RWB/RM/RW * either/or Tall/Strong/Fast Striker Can these be met in the free agent market and with only Scottish, English, NI, Welsh or RoI players due to Brexit? Who knows.
  10. As far as I know he is as wasn't extended at motherwell. Didn't see him play. He is fast, not sure on end product and if he can play RWB as that is what we fucking needed. Haha
  11. He is more of a winger than a wing back. Can't see him fitting the system we are trying if can't play right wing back. It's not like when it's not working the formation changes...it stays the same.
  12. So would Kennedy be brought in to ay RWB or would he be brought in to play behind the strikers, making me wonder the point in Kiltie again?
  13. My issue is it feels that the 3-5-2, as we play it, is very narrow some how. We have players in the wing back position not willing to take a run and try get by players. They are looking for the pass. This then instead of dragging say McGrath and Kiltie wide to be options for them, drags the strikers out wide, rendering them useless. I believe if we are to play 3-5-2 that it really needs to be a 3-4-1-2. We should have 2 anchoring Midfielders as Power cannot do it all alone. The 2 anchoring Midfielders can then, if the wing backs are attacking, cover the wings if need be. I feel the anchoring Midfielders don't need to be two defensive midfielders, but we maybe need a box to box there too. I feel Kiltie and McGrath cannot play in the same team and Kiltie is a ghost because they are. I feel if the wing backs cannot run with the ball, but can cross, then we need the attacking midfielder to run the line across the pitch higher up the pitch as being an option to the wing back out wide to pass to, hold the ball up or run with to allow the wing back to over lap or have an inverted run. This would allow the strikers to do what they need to do rather than supporting out wide. This would allow Main to really be nipping the defense all game. Being able to hold the ball up etc. This would allow Brophy to always be trying to get in behind off of this too. I feel this would make us more effective. Kiltie is a sub for McGrath in my eyes... Or McAllister is to sit behind the strikers. Saying that all about the 3-5-2, I feel we need 3/4 more players to give us change options if formation isn't working. Sadly we wouldn't have the budget for it. * Pacey RWB that actually fits into this 3-5-2 formation. * LB. A more defensive left footed LB. A left sided Fraser if it exists. Allow Tanser to move up and be a LM/LW. This would allow us to play 4 solid players along the back in another formation. * We need either a solid no nonsense CDM to play along side Power or a box to box midfielder who can push the ball up the park. Get away from McGrath and Kiltie in the same line up * Pacey RM/RW. This would allow to change to back 4 and have width with Fraser at RB of back 4. * If it exists in our budget a big, strong and pacey forward who can play with someone or play alone up front.
  14. My opinion, but if we had the budget for it I think we need 3/4 extra players to allow changes in formation and game plan when 3-5-2 doesn't seem to be working. I think we need: * A more defensive left footed LB. A left sided Fraser. This would allow Tanser to move up and be a LM/LW as he is not a defensive player at all really. Allowing a shift from 3-5-2. * We need a pacey RWB to fit into this 352 formation. As Tait nor Henderson are the answer here. * We need a solid no nonsense CDM to play along side Power and stop Kiltie and McGrath in the same line up. Erhahon/MacPherson might get there over time, but we need solid now as Power cannot do it all alone. This would work with 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1 etc. * Pacey RM/RW. This would allow to change to back 4 and have width with Fraser at RB of back 4 to support eachother. Allowing at times to move from 3-5-2 when not working. * If it exists in our budget a tall, strong and Pacey forward who can play with someone or play alone up front. This would allow someone to play alongside Brophy/Main or alone and still be a pest/threat. I know we will not have the budget for all this, so is anyone coming through the youth set up that can fill these roles?
  15. 4-5-1 maybe? Alnwick Fraser McCarthy Shaughnessy Tanser Power Erhahon Flynn McGrath Kiltie Main
  16. Genuine question, Can it be a PCA? Is he not a Aberdeen player until end of 22/23 season?
  17. Last season he changed the formation a fair bit. Looked as if it was tactically depending on the opposition. Now sticking to a system that if it doesn't work he isn't really changing the shape to try get it back. I thought the reason he wanted versatile players was to allow this to change, but not seen it really yet. I have to ask the point in Kiltie though. Seems a ghost on the pitch.
  18. Is he not more versatile? I though he could play not only behind the strikers, but can also be utilised down the wing? I thought in his time he had been deployed as a RWB before? He has pace, would this not be what we need as both Tait and Fraser are more defensive minded and Henderson is still young. Would the pace of Kennedy and the crossing of Tanser not be what is needed in the system?
  19. I think if this this the formation we are going to play that it showed Kiltie to be a bit of a ghost in the game. I felt that Power was over worked in the middle. He needed someone else in the middle with him to cut out play. I felt that the wing backs didn't work as they would take a man on. It then meant that Brophy and Main were coming wide to be an option to pass or chip over to run on to it, to not have the likes of Kiltie running into the forward space in the middle. I'd play McGrath in that role and maybe look to play 2 midfielders to brake up play. I would also at times change it up to have McGrath at times then be running the line if ball is coming up left to go be an option for Tanser to pass and have over lap going on. If it's up the right he comes out to support whoever we play at RWB to overlap with. If this is the formation then if feels super narrow in support and attack higher up the park. We need players to be helping but not always pulling the strikers too wide with no midfield pushing forward to take their space and be an option.
  20. I didn't think it was bad at all. It was a pain trying to figure out what gate to go into, but apart from that it was good. It was my son's first ever game. He seemed to really enjoy it apart from not being able to get the hotdogs I said they normally sell. Looking forward to the next home game and hopefully we will be in our new season ticket seats with him.
  21. My brother and I have just got season tickets again, with getting one for my 7year old son for the first time too and we are going to be a row behind a similar seating arrangement. I hope this isn't going to obstruct our views... Also what stupid git would fall from there that makes there a need for this?
  22. That is how I felt last night. I was all geared up to watch the game from home. When I told my son it would probably not be the best view for his first game, he said it will be good as he can get tips how to become a good goalie to eventually play for St. Mirren.
  23. I received a call last night from Campbell. A few people now couldn't make it and we were next in line in the ballot. This will be my son's first ever game. We are sitting in the north stand rather than where our season tickets will be, but I am so excited to be getting him to his first game. It was a nice wee surprise last night at like 9pm. I now want the football gods to help us with goals-a-plenty game today Vs Hearts like my first home game Vs ICT in the '99/'00 season which was 3-2... Nearly as good as the following home game that season which I think was 5-0 to us.
  24. Would he? Is he a wing back? Thought he was way more attacking than defence?
