  1. Similar to EGB's query, I've always thought selling fags outside clubs would have you retired in the Bahamas within a year. Especially in Edinburgh where nothings open at 3pm. Could easily punt a 20 pack for a fiver I reckon.

I assume this is a complete licensing and trading standards no go?

    I'll buy 10 cartons off you at £5 a pack! rolleyes.gif

  2. Thinking of proposing to my burd tomorrow after about 10 months of dating her, any tips lol, got a meal and stuff planned out but already nervous.

Drink half a bottle of vodka and snort a gram of coke before you meet her. You'll come over all suave and sophisticated, and irresistible.. wub.gif

  3. I was approx 120 on a wisdom tooth over about 3 or 4 visits if I remember right.

Approximately many helium balloons (about the size of the ones you get in card shops etc) would it take to lift a 12 stone man off the ground?

1 litre of helium can lift 1 gram. A typical balloon contains 14 litres. 12 stone = 76203 grammes. Number of balloons needed to lift 12 stone man =76203/14 = 5443 (just realised you'd have to get a few more to cover the weight of the balloons and string)

  5. Anyone got any tips for breaking up with your girlfriend? Ive decided to do it but when I've been the one doing the breaking up ive only ever done it by text, and im determined not to be such a douchebag this time.

    1. Leave your screen open on this page, and leave a post-it-note with your username nearby.

    2. If you've a friend who fancies her, have him standing by with a shoulder to cry on and ready to supply a sympathy fcuk. Not only will it take the edge off her pain, but it'll spread the guilt around too. smile.gif

  6. Ok, someone on my facebook has just stated "I have 28 scarves, guess what I don't want for Christmas!" What witty answer can I give? There must be one, I can't quite get it out though.

You are indeed blessed to have so many scarves. Our Lord Jesus loves you very much. What you don't want for Christmas is sadness in the heart of any little child, for they, indeed, are the future.

  7. I'm planning a day trip to Newcastle on Saturday to take in the Newcastle v Everton game so tonight i've been on-line looking for the cheapest way to travel. I've found a megabus that'll be £10 which is cool and a train back for £17 now my questions are this.

Why do they charge £17 for this train and £67 for most of the others? also what are the chances of this price still being available on Thursday when I'll have the money to pay for this?

I think they're legally obliged to offer so many advance tickets (which I'm assuming the £17 is), but make it as difficult as possible to find. They can be available anytime from 3 months before travel to the day of travel, but sometimes only for a day or so. The Megabus prices go up as well. Try to borrow the money and buy them both now.

  8. My favourite scam at the moment is the 'Plus Bus' where a combined train and bus ticket into and around Aberdeen is more expensive than getting the train ticket and then just buying an all day unlimited day ticket on the bus.

A bit grim perhaps, but a train to Manchester Piccadily followed by a Megabus to Inverness would probbaly be the best value. I travelled Aberdeen to Manchester on the megabus (£2.50 return) to get the trans-Pennine for Leeds a few years ago in the student days and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. That's probably the same distance as North Wales to Inverness. If some-one said "I'll give you £100 if you sit on the bus rather than the train", quite a lot of folk would take that offer (unless you're a raging alcoholic and need that drink from the trolley which on a packed train, seems to be the only difference). Those Virgin trains through Carlisle to Glasgow are stuffy and messy as f*** anyway. I'd actually prefer the megabus thinking about it!

I've used Megabus from Manchester before, and I agree, it's fine. But over Xmas it's about £50 return, plus £20 for getting to Manc from Wales. So I'll probably end up flying for not much more....

  9. Regarding the split fares being cheaper, my blood's close to boiling just reading this but I've had enough train fare rants on here already. At the start of the week, the website was asking ~£55 for a return (cheapest available - no el-cheapo set time tickets) from Aberdeen to Larbert for our game at Stenny last Saturday. Thankfully I was able to get the train to Montrose for £16 return, get the bus through to Brechin and get the supporters bus down at a grand total of £27 instead.

Similarly, Aberdeen to Edinburgh's cheaper if you split at Montrose and same with Aberdeen to Inverness breaking at Keith, although some ticket office staff seem to get pissed off when you ask for the two separate sets of tickets. They can get to f***. If you tried that with a bus for example, you'd end up paying more.

It's getting worse. There seems to be hardly any Advance tickets for sale anymore for long journeys. The cheapest ticket I can find to go from North Wales to Inverness to see my folks at Christmas at the moment is £126. I've paid £30 before, but probably took days to work out the different combinations of splits and single/returns, and matching up the connections. What happened to the promise of fair 'through ticketing' when they privatised it? They're a shower of thieves, and that beardy c*nt Branson is the worst of the lot..

  10. Do scotrail honestly expect me to pay them 34 quid to go to dundee and back tomorrow or am I just a retard of looking things up on the internet?

Split the journey, Return Glasgow-Perth+ Return Perth-Dundee and it's £22.90...

You don't need to get off the train...
