  1. That's a good point, I don't remember us ever turning around the squad as dramatically as this mid-season before. It needed to be done though, the group of players we started the season with weren't good enough and I think we've largely upgraded what was there previously. Good to see Greig Spence scoring on Saturday, I hope it is the first of many!
  2. Ryan Blair was quite good at the weekend, he looked like he was getting up to speed with the demands of the division (albeit against terrible opposition). I'd agree with the rest of your points. As for Dylan Dykes, I've no idea how he managed to get a longer-term contract at Greenock Morton, but he was mince. He was alright on the ball but an empty jersey without it. A poor signing.
  3. Indeed, we have signed a midfielder called Callum Moore on loan from Dundee. Dylan Dykes has returned to his parent club, so too has Liam Scullion.
  4. Think there are a couple of ins and out happening over the coming week(s), with a left-back a priority.
  5. One of the worst things about being relegated would be sharing an online forum with these non-league thickos. Dreadful patter.
  6. Costing someone about 300k per year Hartley on a crazy three year ft deal . but what do I know . am a moron I think you're talking shit here, pal.
  7. Failed at the first hurdle! I don't know without looking it up. I do know it was the Shire who ended up breaking the record, right enough.
  8. The photographer made this GIF a couple of years ago with all the photos from Weatherston's goal. Absolutely superb stuff. What a team! Reckon that 2006/07 side could be my specialist subject in Mastermind.
  9. I didn't think the ball crossed the line, I thought the winger just about kept it in. The linesman had a brilliant view of it. I'm more concerned by the subsequent passage of play and our failure to hold onto the lead. Rubbish.
  10. I don't like saying this but you're right - we're appalling just now. Yesterday provided us with an excellent chance to kickstart the season and move away from the foot of the table but we failed to do so, passing up numerous chances before our new centre-back helped Brechin City win a point. On paper that was our easiest tie and we did not win it. I hope this isn't the case but I think it'll be a straight shoot-out for 10th place between ourselves and Brechin. I don't think anyone else will get pulled into it.
  11. Great stuff Old John, truly. Not much to say about the match other than I can't quite believe we dropped two points today. I thought we were the better side for long spells, particularly in the second half, and this failure to see off teams is a massive cause for concern. There's no way Brechin City should have taken something from that match. It's only one game but Robert Wilson turned in an alarming performance. He got the ball tangled in his feet for Olly Hamilton's opening goal and I don't think he won a header against Andy Jackson all afternoon. Not at all what I was expecting from my new centre-back.
  12. I spoke to a member of Kieran Anderson's family before the first league game of the season. When they saw he was on the bench they were incredulous and said: "He won't be happy with that. He'll have a word with the manager if this keeps up". I can understand that Anderson wants to play every week but if he's not prepared to work for it, what's the point? I agree with your comments about Mark McGuigan, he's had a subdued season, but I'd be really disappointed if he was to leave. I can't see it happening.
  13. Fair play to "theoriginalhedge" and his "everyone's-against-little-old-Brechin-City" schtick, even in the face of damning contrary evidence.
  14. No great loss. I don't think he was given much of a chance under Colin McMenamin and then Davie Irons - there have been times I might have picked him ahead of a jaded Mark McGuigan - but then he never looked fit enough to compete in League 2 and also seemed to be a good few pounds overweight. He was apparently given a bespoke fitness programme but didn't stick with it. Kieran Anderson was a gamble worth taking after his success with Camelon Juniors but it didn't out; I hope he does Bo'ness a turn.
  15. I hope so too but I have my suspicions - two years is a wild period for a striker to go without netting in the league and I think it'll take more than dropping into League 2 for him to get his mojo back. I hope he's a massive success and can help move the team away from the bottom of the table but I'm feeling quite cautious about it.
  16. Greig Spence is an intriguing prospect. He hasn't scored a league goal in almost two years (!) but he's obviously got something about him and I hope he'll add a different dimension to our stuttering attack. He's still living off the reputation he forged at Alloa Athletic and Raith Rovers but I hope this move reinvigorates his career.
  17. It would be quite hilarious if we've brought him in and he's unable to play. I'm sure that won't be the case.
  18. I'm looking forward to seeing how Bob Wilson gets on. He must have something about him if Dick Campbell brought him to Arbroath in the summer (albeit he was never going to get ahead of Tam O'Brien or Ricky Little). We've needed cover at centre-back with David Marsh injured and Jordan Armstrong not really up to it, so on paper it's a good move. I do worry about signing someone who played in one of the worst teams in the history of the SPFL, right enough. We still badly need a left-back, unless, of course, we're planning on operating in a 3-5-2 with Alan Cook at wing-back (and Armstrong still in the starting XI). Nevertheless: I'm pumped for tomorrow!
  19. Lovely banter, truly, but that's actually his da!
  20. This thread, ripped off other, bigger forums, might be a little out of date given we're nine days into the new year but nevertheless: what have been the best and worst moments following your team over the past 10 years? BEST Eric Paton's goal against Alloa Athletic on 23 April 2011 was a superlative moment. We were struggling in ninth place at the time and anything other than a win against the Wasps would have consigned us to the relegation play-offs. Grant Anderson cancelled out Scott Walker's early header before the Big Easy netted with an indirect free-kick. What a feeling! We leapfrogged Alloa and secured our Second Division status with a thumping win over Peterhead on the final day of the season. Eric Paton, what a player! Beating Kilmarnock in the League Cup was a tremendous achievement and one of the best results of the last decade. We turned in a very good performance to knock out the holders at Rugby Park, with Bomber Ferguson and John Gemmell netting. Sean Higgins scoring an equaliser to secure a 3-3 draw at Ibrox, and rattling that horrible Rangers TV commentator in the process, was lovely stuff. We'd been thumped 8-0 on our previous trip to Govan and expectations were lower than dinosaur bones, so to take something off them on their own turf was lovely. Sacking Scott Booth brought about a tremendous sense of relief, so too did replacing him with Brown Ferguson. I remember his first match in charge, a 3-2 defeat at Dunfermline Athletic where we threw away a two-goal lead (as well as conceding a last-minute winner) and really feeling a change in terms of what I was seeing on the pitch and among the support. Everyone really seemed to be pulling in the same direction and it ultimately led to a successful run in the play-offs. Stephen Stirling's goal in the 2-0 Challenge Cup victory over Raith Rovers is still the best goal I've ever seen in the flesh, a marvelous dipping parabola - I can't quite believe how hard and how high he struck the ball - that capped a tremendous showing against full-time opposition. Carlos Mazana-Martinez didn't really do all that much at Stenhousemuir but his goal in a 4-2 win over Airdrieonians was supreme. The Diamonds were pressing for a late equaliser when their corner kick was cleared, sending the Spaniard upfield and in on goal. His chip over Rohan Ferguson was glorious. Mick Dunlop's two headers in the play-off final first leg against Peterhead were out of this world and set us on the path for promotion in 2018. We hadn't scored from a set-piece all season so when the captain popped up with his second-half brace, it was bedlam. Brilliant celebrations from the bog man too. What a player! Stenhousemuir 4-2 Falkirk. The best of all time. WORST I always look back on Scot Buist's injury at East Fife (curiously enough, the same game Billy Brown lost his mind) with regret. He'd been a very important player for us, both on and off the field, in the 2012/13 season and I reckon if we were able to keep him alongside Ross McMillan at centre-back we would have had the bedrock for a promotion push the following year. In the end, he had to retire (before making a brief comeback), which was a damn shame. The death of youth-team player Charles Docherty on New Year's Day 2015 was very sad. We played Stirling Albion the following day and I don't think the match should have gone ahead in the circumstances. There's a lot to dislike about Scott Booth's time in charge of the club but the moment I turned against him for good was when he released Sean Dickson and allowed him to join East Fife. Dickson was a popular player among the support and it seemed beyond careless to let go of a good young player after a falling out. A rubbish manager. Back-to-back home defeats to Cowdenbeath and Elgin City in late March 2018 terrified me and led me to believe we were not going to make it into the top four. With a resurgent Clyde close behind us, these slip-ups against two of the worst travelers in League 2 could have been grievous; thankfully, we got away with it in the end. Sacking Brown Ferguson for dubious reasons was a mistake and one we're still paying for. Nothing has been quite right ever since. Kyle Bradley's goal for Annan Athletic 10 minutes into the play-off semi-final second leg was horrendous. We were trailing 2-0 on aggregate after a crap display at Galabank and that goal, so early into the match, effectively finished the tie off. We were not coming back from that.
  21. Jonathan Tiffoney looked good against Stirling Albion, he was adventurous on the ball and tried to carry it forward; he was probably our best player that day. As for McBride, I've written about him elsewhere on this thread. I'm not quite sure what he brings to the team but if it keeps us sweet with his old man and his clients, then fair play to all concerned!
  22. The club made the right decision to remove Martyn Corrigan - he was a popular figure but a very decent team had been drifting for months - but replacing him with Scott Booth turned out to be wrong (albeit it was broadly welcomed at the time). Brown Ferguson's sacking, meanwhile, still baffles me and we have seen no improvement since. I think that's been the key moment in our recent history and I wonder how things might have turned out if he'd been kept on. I don't think you can compare Brechin City's decline to our current malaise either. We're in a rut at the moment but Brechin have been in freefall for the past three seasons!
  23. Ryan Blair would be the best player in the SPFL if no-one came near him, put pressure on him or tried to take the ball from him. He's obviously got a talent but I think there's too much rough and tumble at this level for him.
  24. I find it astonishing Brechin City supporters would be dismissive towards bringing in Mick Dunlop. He's a specialist at this level, with three league winners' medals and two play-off victories, and although he's approaching the end of his career he would be a superb six-month signing. I'd take him back at Ochilview without thinking.
