  1. Fair play, that's the worst performance and result I've ever seen from Stenhousemuir. All credit goes to Penicuik Athletic, they steamrollered us, but we offered no resistance. They could have been about four goals up before the interval and thoroughly deserved their win. We were horrendous, truly.
  2. There are a couple of club-specific shows that are worth checking out. It's No Easy! focuses on Stranraer and is pretty decent, even if it is sometimes quite one-eyed. The Elgin City Podcast has great production values; the Blue Toon Podcast (Peterhead) is new on the scene but no less engaging; and the OTL Podcast, dedicated to Airdrieonians, is worth listening to too. Of the shows already mentioned: the Back Page Podcast is very good - they're very knowledgeable boys who all follow jobber teams, and their insight and analysis is generally of a high standard. The Pelé Podcast is a must listen (if I say so myself!) while Lower-League Ramblings often has excellent guests on it. The Terrace should be a mainstay of every Scottish football supporters.
  3. Would like to see these things on the board on a view from the terrace. Leave it with me.
  4. Providing we get the better of Penicuik Athletic, we've been drawn away to Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup. A dud of a draw given we're playing them earlier in the month in the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Cup. I would much have preferred non-league opposition. It looks like Falkirk have got the tie of the round against Bomber's Linlithgow Rose.
  5. We've signed two new players this evening on short-term contracts - Jordan Armstrong, a left-sided defender, and Max Potter, a centre-back. Both are young boys and they've joined until January 2020.
  6. Lovely stuff, I'm planning on taking the car through so I'll be sure to be there in plenty of time.
  7. Who's all heading along to Penicuik on Saturday? I can't say I know much about them but it would be hugely embarrassing if we didn't progress to the third round. By all accounts, they're not a great side so we should be looking to win comfortably - if we score an early goal I'd fancy us to put four or five past them. I'd be inclined to keep the same team that beat Waterford last Friday but I wouldn't mind seeing Kieran Anderson getting a start here. Even although I'm fairly confident going into this match, I can still remember aberrations against Preston Athletic and Threave Rovers. Two black days, the trip to Prestonpans especially.
  8. That was great fun. The difference Davie Irons has had on this group of players is incredible - since he's come in, we've won three of our four matches, including defeating league leaders Cove Rangers and tonight's rollercoaster showing. The last two games have been superb to watch. I thought we deserved the victory tonight. We defended well for the best part and gave Waterford plenty to think about in attack. Wullie Gibson was excellent - what a signing he's been! - but David Hopkirk and Scott McLaughlin had good games too (his free-kick was sensational). The workrate on show was commendable and everyone put in a superb graft for the cause. Mark McGuigan's winning goal was the perfect example of this - he had a subdued match but was on hand to poke home the winner after the rubbish goalkeeper spilled Ryan Watters' shot. Best of all was the atmosphere inside Ochilview tonight. The place had a real buzz to it, a real low hum of energy, and it was noisy and exciting to be a part of. Say what you like about the Challenge Cup and its current incarnation but I really enjoyed that. It was something different, and the Waterford fans I spoke to seemed to genuinely relish playing in the cup (even if their management and players don't). I think we can win it.

It is in Player Career mode, aye. I'd never really played it before and was quite looking forward to building my avatar but being unable to use the skill button is frustrating and has turned me off it. The game feels a bit buggy and unfinished in parts. I hope the next patch can fix it but given that you've described it as a "known bug", this augurs ill.

Not sure if this is happening to anyone else, but my skill button has stopped working in career mode. I thought it might have been the joypad but I changed it and it still wasn't working. The skill button seems to work in normal games but will not work in career mode. Hopeless.
  11. How are people feeling after the first quarter? After a poor start to the season, with alarming performances against Albion Rovers, Queen's Park, Edinburgh City and Cowdenbeath, we really looked like we were going to struggle. Colin McMenamin had brought in a troupe of decent-ish players but didn't seem to know his best XI or his best formation and was chopping and changing his system almost on a game-by-game basis. I'm not sure which game was the worst but changing the just-about-getting-by 3-5-2 formation to a hopeless 4-4-2 for the second half against Edinburgh City was a disaster. The board made the right call to move McMenamin on last month. Davie Irons was an unexpected replacement, initially joining on a caretaker basis, and he ground out an important 1-0 win over Brechin City. Irons was appointed on a permanent basis and his last two matches included an encouraging draw with Stirling Albion and a thrilling victory over Cove Rangers. The first-half performance was the best I've seen from the Warriors since we thumped Falkirk in the Scottish Cup last year and we deserved to beat the best team in the league. Under Irons we look a lot more organised and purposeful and I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out. Wullie Gibson has been a fine signing (and looks younger than his 35 years) and Thomas Halleran looks like a superstar in the making. I've got high hopes for him. I was impressed by the three teams sitting above us in the division and reckon they'll stay there for the time being (although I don't know if Cowden can maintain their tremendous start) but I hope we can pull away from the sides beneath us and challenge for the top four. We're still short of a left-back but we're looking alright - we were definitely lesser than the sum of our parts under McMenamin.
  12. That's a decent point, a left-back should be a priority signing at the next window. Scott McLaughlin has probably played a lot more than anyone's expected and he's done absolutely fine, but he was caught out for the first goal, and it's not the first time it's happened. Aidan McIlduff, meanwhile, just hasn't been good enough. You're right that the trialist is a centre-back. Not sure who he is but he looked quite young.
  13. I didn't think Cove Rangers were awful at all - I thought they generally played well and forced Graeme Smith into a couple of great saves and, as mentioned earlier, if Mitch Megginson had put that chance away just before the interval it would have been a different story. They were just rotten at the most inopportune moments and Stenhousemuir took full advantage. I do think the Warriors narrowly deserved the win, right enough. We defended well, tried to play the ball through Thomas Halleran, Wullie Gibson and Alan Cook, and exploited a creaky defender and rubbish goalie. I thought we were going to get battered after losing the early goal but fair play to the team for rallying. We would probably have lost that about 5-0 under Colin McMenamin. Credit to Davie Irons, seven points from the last three games, including a win against the probable champions, is some doing.
  14. I don't know. I'm not sure if he'll start ahead of Mark McGuigan or David Hopkirk but he could well feature at some point. I'll certainly be there today - listen carefully and you'll here my running my jaw on the tannoy.
  15. I've no idea how much any of our players are paid but when we signed Mark McGuigan from Stranraer, it was written into his contract that he was allowed to use part of the Ochilview pitch on a Sunday. free of charge, for his striker training. An interesting quirk.
  16. If someone's offering a 38-year-old striker who hasn't kicked a ball in 10 months an obscene wage, that's on them! Fair play to Colin for commanding such a high wage at this stage of his career. All the best to him, I say!
  17. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I can't see beyond a Cove Rangers victory here but this means I'll be delighted if we're able to take something from it.
  18. Colin McMenamin has signed for Hurlford United as a striker. Best of luck to the big man!
  19. How has Mark Mcguigan been for you lot this year? Not as totemic as in previous years but I think that has a lot to do with the kind of football we've played. He's at his best when he's hanging on the last shoulder of the defender and running onto killer passes, but we haven't done that often enough. Although he's a big, strong guy, he's not too good at duelling for long punts forward, but not even Didier Drogba himself could do much with balls fired into his neck; some of our approach play has been rotten this year. That said, he always works hard for the team and he's a good focal point and under Davie Irons I expect us to make better use of Wullie Gibson and Thomas Halleran, which will benefit McGuigan and our other strikers going forward,
  20. It's a position we've needed to strengthen in so I'm pleased another forward has joined the club. I hope he does well and scores the goals that will propel us to first place in the table.
  21. Absolutely fair play to Stirling Albion and BSM Media, the presentation in the highlights package is absolutely first class. They're probably a little too long but you really do get a sense of the occasion.
  22. To be fair, I'll be pitching up next weekend expecting to get thumped. Cove Rangers are miles ahead of us - they have one of the best part-time managers in the country, a settled squad who have enjoyed success for the last few seasons, and a good bit of money behind them - so getting a point from them would be an unexpected delight.
  23. I was looking at the players Irons brought in over his first few months at the club. The two big successes were Eric Paton - still my all-time favourite Stenhousemuir player - and Michael Devlin on loan from Hamilton Academical, with both players having a massive impact in our survival. His other signings - Lewis "The Ghost" Sloan and Brian Gilmour (who ended up costing us a small fine after he botched his registration) - weren't great. He did manage to make a poor group of players better greater than the sum of their parts with good organisation and structure and I reckon we'll see the fruits of this in a couple of weeks. We can definitely get the better of Stirling Albion at the weekend but Cove Rangers will probably tank us.
