  1. Rie's a tremendous shout and would no doubt sweep the boards had it not been for her relative obscurity. Her fervent defence of the big man last season, even as he was leading Cowden into League 2, was really heartening. I wish someone would love me the way she loved Colin Nish.
  2. I've just checked my own PMs to see if there's anything murky in there (and there probably was over the last 12 years) but the only shameful thing in my inbox is some messages to "Scotzine" offering to give him information on Stenhousemuir FC. What an embarrassment.
  3. It is a bit weird, yes, but when the discussion comes around every few years and I can dig it out and post it, those two or three green dots make it all worth it.
  4. Kilt just couldn't help himself. A guy who was, on the whole of it, alright offline but who really came into his own with his saucy emojis and overenthusiastic private messages. He was called out for so many offences by various female posters. I remember he found love with Evie, I think, and wrote a long post about their sex life, using the spoiler tags to hide the juiciest parts without realising they could be seen if highlighted by the cursor. I copied and pasted it on my old laptop, I'll dig it out when I get in this evening. CTWD too was alright in real life (if a little terrifying). Online, however, he used to clog up the long-forgotten booze thread with posts like "Buds going down easy, onto my third line", that sort of thing.
  5. A great story from 2006 or 2007: A female poster announced she was going on holiday and would be travelling from Glasgow Airport. Kilt, who worked in customs, in a bold and unusual move, used his influence to check her flight times and then accosted her in the queue at security with a box of chocolates. You'll have to go a long way to find something as sinister.
  6. He's decent, nothing more, nothing less. He came into the team at the right time as we didn't have someone to partner Fraser Kerr at centre-back (Ross Meechan did his best but looked uncomfortable; he's far more effective at right-back than in the middle). I'm sure on his first match he cost us a goal with a dreadful back-pass. But no, Marsh has settled in well and has formed a solid partnership with Kerr and the pair have done well enough together. We certainly look a lot more sturdy with him in the team, that's for sure. I'm surprised Clyde let him go, he would certainly have done a good job in League 2.
  7. I think so, I think this current group of players is capable of pulling away from the bottom and into safety. Having since added some quality signings to the ranks - Willis Furtado, Mason Robertson, David Marsh, Connor Duthie - we're now capable of holding our own against the rest of the division. For instance, had the league begun after we beat Queen's Park 3-0 at the end of October, we'd be in sixth place. Our awful start to the season hamstrung us but we've shown we're a lot better than that. While this league is the most competitive in the country, we're also lucky that Peterhead and Albion Rovers have lost form at the worst possible time. A couple of months ago, both sides might have fancied themselves for the top four but now they're scrapping to stay in the division. We've got a handful of difficult games remaining - Livingston away and East Fife at home - but the rest are absolutely doable. The match against Albion Rovers at the end of the month will be huge. There's still a lot of work to be done and I'm still realistic about our chances but I don't see why we can't stay up.
  8. I've heard from a few people that Vinnie Berry will be leaving the club before the end of the season. He's had the opportunity to work in America and he's traveling in four or five weeks (apparently it's been on the cards for a while). A goddamn shame as he's been our best player this season. Whoever takes his place in midfield has big shoes to fill.
  9. Thank you, I appreciate your prompt replies. We're missing that extra bit of creativity in the middle of the park so hopefully Thomas Grant (and his terrific set-pieces!) give us what we're looking for.
  10. Former Falkirk midfielder Thomas Grant has signed with Stenhousemuir until the end of the season. What can we expect from him? Is he any good? Can he single-handedly save the club from relegation?
  11. Another bit of signing news at Stone Cold Stenhousemuir with former Falkirk midfielder Thomas Grant signed until the end of the season - CLICK. Not sure if this guy's any good - our recruitment of ex-Falkirk players hasn't been too hot - but he seems like he's got a decent pedigree. I hope he does well for us and can help lead us away from the relegation places.
  12. Stenhousemuir's erstwhile Director of Football Robert Rowan is currently in talks with Rangers about taking up a similar post at Ibrox - CLICK. Even although a club of Stenny's size absolutely did not need someone like him on the books, I liked the cut of Robert's jib and he came across well in interviews and at the fans forum, so best of luck to him.
  13. He certainly seems to have matured a lot over the last few years. Cook bounced from club to club for a while and I'm sure this is the only time in his career where he's stayed somewhere for more than one season. I can't say I know him well at all but he comes across as a nice guy on the times I've spoken to him and his da's a good guy too.
  14. I'm not sure, the manager spoke on Warriors TV saying he was carrying an injury that prevented him from training (but not from playing, strangely enough). His leg's been taped up over the last few matches - I can only imagine he continued to play on until suitable cover was sourced, which must have come in the form of Connor Duthie.
  15. A left-sided midfielder, you say? He's probably in there to provide cover for Alan Cook, who isn't able to train at the moment (but who is able to body Airdrieonians on a consistent basis).
  16. Who is he, whereabouts does he play and is he any good? Bomber had spoken about the need to improve the squad, not just add numbers, so the manager must see something in him. I'm not sure where he would immediately fit into our starting XI just now.
  17. I've always admired Frank McKeown as a player and my respect for him increased in the wake of the Clutha tragedy. He gave a very touching interview in the Daily Record where he spoke his part in the rescue operation and, at the same time, used the piece as a means to punt Herbalife. You have to respect that kind of goddamn hustle. Fair play to him.
  18. Fair play to Dot Cotton this evening - the scene with the children at the dinner table was outstanding. Very moving.
  19. I got Netflix a couple of months ago and immediately started watching this. I can only echo the comments above, it's brilliantly realised and absolutely hilarious. It's wavered a bit the older it's gotten, with a couple of the concepts seeming a little stillborn, but on the whole it's wonderful. There's so many excellent episodes but I reckon my favourite is "Sweet Dee Gets Audited" - the final scene with the dead dog falling out of the child's coffin killed me stone dead. I was laughing for days after it.
  20. That was a very lazy way to kill off two of the show's longstanding characters. Saw what you like about Roxy and Ronnie but they deserved a heck of a lot better than to die in a bizarre swimming pool accident. None of it was foreshadowed - when Roxy pulled the pouch of cocaine from her bag, it would have made a lot more sense for her to snort the entire bag and then have heart failure or something in the pool. Instead she puts the cocaine away and hangs about as normal before just keeling over. The heck? And then Ronnie jumps in, wedding dress and all, and somehow gets tangled in her own veil and drowns. That just doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Danny Dyer was the best thing in the show and I'm looking forward to seeing how Lee's confession resolves itself. We all know Lee's character is being written out so it probably won't be amicably.
  21. Last night's episode was a pile of steaming-hot garbage. Absolutely nothing happened, just dull conversation after dull conversation between some of the show's most irrelevant characters. Given that last year's Christmas special was a 10-on-10 banger, this was a major disappointment. In some ways it reminded me of a WWE PPV where nothing happens until the final couple of minutes to just about convince you it was all worthwhile in the end. The return of Max Branning is hugely welcomed and I'll admit to cheering when I heard his voice. Branning is one of the best, most complicated personalities on the show and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does next. Since Phil Mitchell's face turn in May (I think), EastEnders has lacked a real dastardly heel and a selfish, egregious Max Branning is exactly what we need. I'm also looking forward to the conclusion of Lee Carter's story arc. Lee seems to be quite an unpopular character on this thread and I agree he's dour and tedious but I'm not sure if he's being deliberately played like that. Regardless, his descent into petty theft to pay for a lifestyle he cannot afford and its subsequent unravelling is reasonably compelling. But the last two minutes cannot make up for everything else that (didn't) happen. Martin Fowler's awful jacket. The power cut bringing everyone together. Cathy Beale. Donna. Roxy on the ching, wiping her nose as she comes out of the toilet. After about 15 minutes I was thinking to myself, "Is something going to happen here?" There really is nothing else to discuss because nothing else happened. I think the worst aspect of the show and hitherto unexplored area was the blatant homophobia from Patrick and Denise towards Derek. Now, Derek is a dreadful character and one of television's ultimate betas, but the way Denise spoke about him, inferring that he wanted to fuck Patrick, was pretty distasteful. Chuck in the line about Dot's pussy and it could have been an episode of Are You Being Served.
  22. I'm not sure if this has been shared elsewhere on the forum but this is a pretty interesting read about the inner workings of the WWE - CLICK.
  23. To be fair, this "Lee pish" is probably the most compelling aspect to the show at the moment. Even although Lee Carter is the biggest drip in Walford, I find myself looking forward to his scenes and I'm really keen to see how everything resolves itself. It's a pity we all know the character's leaving the show over Christmas and that everything will be tied up in a couple of weeks because I was hoping there would be more to come.
  24. Colin McCabe, the goalkeeper, is horrendous. That's probably the primary reason we're chucking away goals with such frequency. Some of the mistakes he's been making are horrible - check out the highlights of the League Cup defeat at Queen of the South, or the pumping at home by Stranraer, or the loss to Brechin City. These are basic goalkeeping errors, and his inability to command his penalty box seems to have spread a nervousness throughout the squad. On top of that, the defenders around him aren't that great: Fraser Kerr's probably our best out-and-out centre-back and he's done alright this season but he's got a petulant streak in him and sometimes goes looking for unnecessary trouble; David Marsh is a League 2 defender; Ross Meechan is much better at right-back than he is in the middle but he's lost his place to Jamie McCormack, a full-back who is a decent attacker but seems to get caught on the back foot too often; and Ciaran Summers is taking his time to get back up to speed after a long period out injured. David Crawford injured himself in his second game for us (a 4-1 thumping at Alloa Athletic) but he's supposed to be back soon. Hopefully he can help keep things together.
