  1. Callum Crane is back in January and he looked pretty good on the left in the betfred games albeit against lower opposition. The thought of losing one or more of our central defenders needs to be balanced by how much we will lose in league positioning. As far as i recall pretty much every league position is worth at least £100k. Also finishing in the top six presumably means far higher gates for the last five matches? I know Halkett's only under contract until the end of the season but I'd still be loathed to see him go for less than seven figures. Pretty sure he's worth that to us.
  2. Not saying he cant score goals; could have had a chance in the Premiership with us as well if he hadn't gone on a bender with his mates instead of fitness training. He does need to proper service though. Actually you could say most of our player actually got a second chance with Livi
  3. Think he'll be great at that level. Wasn't rated by many at Livi because of his work rate (or lack thereof) compared to the rest of the team but certainly knew where the goal was and I think ended our joint top scorer or thereabouts last season which is pretty impressive considering he spent the second half of the season on loan at brechin. I don't think its as simple as that unfortunately. He had half a season playing for us but most of his appearances were off the bench but still managed eight goals; by contrast he had the second half of the season with Brechin niy failed to find the net despite probably starting games\ There's no doubt hes got an eye for goal but it very much depends on having other players that can act as good providers. Last season we has some good wingers putting quality balls into the box; by contract Brechin didn't have that and their strikers needed to work hard to create opportunities; that wasn't Dylan. Looking as Stirling's stats I'm not sure they have the side to provide him with the kind of quality ball for him to be successful. Not sure the level of football being played is really that relevant; if he cant create his own chances he wont be successful
  4. Checking Wiki it seems he scored 7 goals in 37 appearances for us as a kid. Seems he's managed one goal in about every nine games for your lot which is still pretty good at the top level for a midfielder. Strange he only got one international cap; I cant help wondering if some of this was related to him coming from an unfashionable club (no offence intended)
  5. Murray Davidson also plays for St Johnstone doesn't he? Doesn't seem to be in the team at the moment so maybe he's injured? A nice guy; hard to believe he came from the same crop as that tit Andrew Halliday and Griffiths
  6. Exciting player to watch though. Incidentally I recall there was another player, a French forward, who joined at the same time as JGT and Andreu. Don't think he was ever fit enough to play for us; whatever happened to him?
  7. Cant see Andreu displacing either Pittman; Byrne or Jacobs... Maybe Lawless.
  8. Agreed - Scougall was good at championship level in what was a pretty poor side but already I think Pittman; Byrne and Jacobs have each scored more goals since the play-offs than Scougall ever scored for us.
  9. Other than Keaghan and maybe McNulty I don;t see any of them getting a start in the current side - although Kyle ability to play in a multitude of positions would probably get him a place on the bench.
  10. You sure you're not related to my first wife? Anyway I've told you I'm not allowed to argue unless you pay!
  11. Might also add Knox as well. Just hasn't seemed to move forward in the last three years.
  12. Thought I read somewhere that Lawson could also cover RB; not sure how accurate that is though. Brown was sent back to Millwall I believe. Saunders is a difficult one really; showed some snippets of skill but far to indecisive and a little timid for a Scottish Premier defender. Not sure he'll do any better for someone like Falkirk though; at the moment the last thing they need is someone who ducks out of a 50/50 challenge.
  13. We're already missing Ryan Hardie, Craig Sibbald, Lee Miller and Rafa DeVita...all of whom would probably be in or around the starting 11. Beyond that we have one of the strongest squads we've had for a while in terms of depth...a lot of players can cover multiple positions too which helps a great deal I'd go further to suggest that its the strongest side in terms of depth ever. Even the great side of 2001/02 didn't have a huge amount of cover outside the original 11. Our weakest area is probably the three man central defence but if one was injured/suspended we could change to a flat four with Lamie and McMillan particularly covering LB and RB positions. After seeing Saunders performance in the Betfred I'd be loathed to have him come in against any half-decent side. The likes of Calum Crane and Cammy Clark are both out on loan at the moment I believe.
  14. Saw the Tee-shirt; just worried it wont follow the same as the "In Hoppy we Trust" and "I bobby barr" Oh and don't forget the Pearse Flynn "ROARING BACK" embarrassment
  15. Naw - it has to be Halkett - I'm fed up with that lazy, clueless, know-nothing waster! And Gary Malley deserves a chance whilst I'm at it.....
  16. As I recall with Falkirk his preferred position was left of midfield; in some ways where Lamie plays at the moment. The problem is obviously Lamie has been playing very well at the moment and could (should) have scored two on Saturday but for some dodgy refereeing and a block on the line. Also he gives Gary the option of changing to a flat four defence if needed. Other than that the choice could be Dolly Menga but that wouldn't go down well with many; Robinson being another but the amounts of chances he creates for others would potentially be lost. Lawless was another option but he's really on the wrong side unless we look at starting the game as a flat four at the back in which case Keaghan could look at moving wide and Sibbald could look at left midfield in a 4-4-2 formation. Ultimately it really depends who you're playing against; our wing attacks weren't as effective against Motherwell who were prepared to defend in depth; in that case its really pressurising form the middle and looking for a gap. Personally I wouldn't say Sibbald was a "must start" at the moment; but would certainly normally be ahead of the likes of Lawson and Cadden. As the season drags on he will get his chance; what he does with it is really up to him.
  17. Not sure; Robinson's proved what he can do at the Premiership level. Sibbald is still untried; got a bit more to do before he gets a start.
  18. Yes; not exactly a surprise but as an aside is that actually the size of the trophy? If you imagine a top half manager is going to get maybe two of those per year and you retain your role for say three years that's some significant amount of space they're going to use up. Surely that one's just for show and the actual award is a little silver egg-cup? That is unless Doncaster and Co are trying to compensate for something. Well deserved though - hopefully it wont be the usual kiss of death (like the vote of confidence from the chairman)
  19. Actually I thought he was a better player than Burns based on what I've seen so far - he really seemed best as coming on as a second half replacement for Lawless and really getting in the faces of the opposition - he caused St Mirren real problems. Burns has been okay but not a huge stand-out in my opinion.
  20. remember that post when the inevitable slump comes mate! Think he was joking to be honest. Still a lot of games to be played; the serious question though is will you still have the same manager when you come to visit us or will the win against Hamilton buy him a reprieve for a few more games?
  21. Hey; no need to get personal. Just because I leave two hour before the game "to beat the traffic" and live about two miles from the ground.....
  22. Some times I get quite concerned when supporters boo ex-players (Watson aside) as it often just encourages them to try harder however, in Miller's case, I'm not sure that will really make any difference he already plays with 110% intent, if not ability, so the desire by some to sound like domestic cattle with haemorrhaging haemorrhoids is entirely up to them (less annoying than St Mirren's drum anyway). On thing in Millers favour is he isn't the kind of guy to roll around on the floor trying to get another player sent off (again unlike Watson); instead he gets back up and tried to get some retribution which probably accounts for why he seemed to be able to get cautioned for about fifty percent of our games.
  23. To be honest if some of the boys continue to perform the way they're going it wont be Bradford we have to worry about. Still all are on contract so should attract a fee at least.
  24. From what I've seen (which admittedly is selective video shots) Menga is a powerful fast winger but nowhere near a target man. Actually his scoring record is apparently significantly better for the Angolan national side than for any of his clubs. Miller worries me in that he seems to have picked up a number of niggling injuries over the past six months although a lot of that may be to do with his playing style and the fact that he will be targeted by defenders. If Hardie can recover the form he had pre injury then I would expect him to be a starter although I suppose it has to be remembered that he's relatively untried at this level (think he made a couple of appearances for the ranger but off the bench?). With the like of Menga; Kaja and Robinson we've a number of attacking midfielders who can stir things up and hopefully put plenty of balls into the box. Hardie in particular should relish them.
