I assume Hepburn will be off back to Bayern, what a washout that was.

Fresh start for everyone, I'd hope? This is the first senior football in his career and we've been largely gash. New manager in who gets a bit of confidence back in the squad and I'm sure he can make an impact.

Only concern would be if we start playing hoof-ball, then Bayern might pull the plug.

  2. Somewhere north of ambivalent on Davidson, but maybe what this group needs is someone to toughen them up and get them organised. Not an old school dinosaur and not an untried old firm tabloid nightmare waiting to happy… so yes looks decent.

Militant oranje-ball just not realistic in this league so happy to see a bit of pragmatism creep in. DoF appointment will be interesting and maybe more of an indication on the long-term model.

  3. Nuijten seems like a good egg but it would be criminal to give him the job just now. I think there’s a load of promise in this side but they are crying out for a bit of experience. Maybe it could work with the right DoF in, and a few older heads - but even then it would seem like a ooge gamble.

Was pleased to see us go to a back 3, though. That defo seems like it will get the best out of a bunch of these players.

Any chat on McPherson? He  feels a very good fit at wing-back.

  4. That was pish. Same bang-average sideways shite in the first half but we happened to get a pen. They stepped it up half a notch in the second half and there was only ever going to be one winner. Pish.

Screaming lack of leadership in all aspects of the club. The committee etc. rightly get  grief but they’re not the hide and seek champions of the southside on a CEO wage.

No DoF.  PE teacher as a manager and zero communication on what happens next. Shambles.

Can never accept this argument that finding the right manager takes time. Pretty sure the average managerial reign is still around 18 months, so surely clubs aren’t just assuming their guy will stay for 5-10 years?

    1. Why are you getting rid of a manger if you don’t know where you’re going next?

    2. Any well-run club should have 3 or 4 realistic names that they would consider appointing if their manager left tomorrow. This gets regularly updated and makes it far less likely you’ll be left scrambling around in the dark.

Tempted to stop you there at “well run club” but I largely agree.

The kicker for us is that we’re shopping for a new DoF as well as a manager.

So far ‘the project’ is looking naive at best, criminally negligent at worst - so are we changing strategy? Does the new DoF need to be in place before we appoint a manager?

    f**k only knows.

Seriously? Do you want someone (anyone!!!!!) in within a week and no longer, or do you want the right person in? Given the director of football (who would normally be the man looking for new managers) had resigned and, I'm assuming, the club were going to give Veldman a wee run at it, I can't see there being anyone getting fitted for his QP trackie before the ICT game in anticipation of Veldman going

I’d say they should start with a sensible announcement to the fans within a week and maybe outline if this is, indeed, the plan.

It wasn’t a huge surprise that the director of football left either. So yes, I expect serious progress by now.

We don't know much about Nuitjen but he has had the opportunity to observe the squad in training and on match days, seen what Veldman has tried and seen what doesn't work, and, you would hope, come up

Will be interesting to see if we change formation at all. One of the stranger things this season has been the fact we’ve been shite for months but stuck to 4-3-3. Felt like some of Beuker’s militant nonsense, instead of e.g. maybe going back 5 to try and stiffen the defence.

One of the biggest issues that the blazers have failed to address is getting a full time comms person on board so statements like today don't happen. The fact that they talk a big game in the press but still rely on volunteers to put out official statements is an absolute joke.

Or we could get the steak pie guy to write them.
