  1. The council owns the land the Spartans Community Foundation owns and operates the facility.
  2. We have not separated from the community club, they have always had an arms-length relationship. We did change the football side from being a members club and we raised money by issuing shares. Some shares went to America but most stayed here. We will need to issue more if we want to progress. The community side gets its income from fund-raising, grants and income from renting the facility.
  3. Great day at Ainslie Park. All the work over the last 15 years coming to fruition. Best result for Spartans since Thermopylae! Only the second time we have beaten a full-time team.
  4. Never saw that coming. Our back 5 was brilliant and the keeper is known for saving pens. Lot of work for Goodwin to do.

  6. He has played 3 times for the first team. Twice in cup games and once in the dead rubber at the end of the season at Berwick. He is too old to stay at U20 level and didnt want to go on loan to an EOS club. His dad is Malky Mackay, so should have the right genes.
  7. As you point out Spartans were one of the main driving forces for the Pyramid. Why would they vote to destroy all their hard work over the last 15-20 years? The fact that people who left when the B teams were voted into the league are now coming back on board tells me the vote will almost certainly be against the Conference League. The sense of relief around the club that we are out of the equation as one of the LL teams to be Invited into the CL is palpable.
  8. Thanks to all who sent congratulations. I didn't want to come on last week and preempt anything. We have achieved 4 5 objectives. Play off - tick Lowland League- tick HL play off - tbc tick Club 42 play off - tbc tick South Challenge Cup tbc tick Truthfully didn't expect to win it all. Objective for next season is 9th or better.

  10. Dont go on a double deck bus!!

  12. The coach may have been the Spartans Connections Para teams. They normally play at Little Kerse on Sundays. We use the same bus company and they always flag up the Spartans banner on the bus.
  13. Thanks to all who sent congratulations. I didn't want to come on last week and preempt anything. We have achieved 2 of 5 objectives. Play off - tick Lowland League- tick HL play off -tbc Club 42 play off - tbc South Challenge Cup tbc I suspect it will be the main squad on Tuesday v the Braves, but next Saturday lots of 20s will play v Berwick. Hopefully 10 days rest will help before the game on 29th.
  14. Spartans started with 8 U20s in the starting 11. All 5 on the bench were U20s. In total 11 changes from Saturdays starting line up and a completely new bench.
  15. Dundonald v Spartans will now be at Ainslie Park KO 1945 tonight. (Wed 5th Apr)
  16. I think East of Scotland shield is the third oldest.
  17. I missed this working away from home this week. it looks as though it was a mix of fringe players and U20s in the Spartans team. So double Ouch!
  18. As this is a Lowland League topic I was meaning just LL. But extra points to TTB for getting a mention of Edinburgh City in!
  19. Just noticed that Ali Adams has signed for Bo'ness. That means that Bo'ness now have 2 players who have played for 5 different Lowland League teams. Ali has played for Bo'ness, Spartans, Gretna, Berwick and Bonnyrigg. The other player is Jack Smith who has played for EK, BSC, Spartans, Caley Braves and Bo'ness. Pub Quiz- Can anyone beat that? PS I do the quizzes in the programme so I am a bit of a statto anyway.
  20. Picked this game for a visit. All the goals scored shooting downhill. 4 for Tweedmouth in first half and 5 for Edinburgh South in the second. Oh and a couple of reds as well as some eccentric decision making from the ref. Great entertainment!
  21. SPFT trust game V Rangers B now moved from Tuesday 9th to Wednesday 10th August.
  22. Other ex-city players are Ian McFarland (Subo) who is captain and Sam Newman who has gone on loan to Cowden. Gary Jardine at CSS has a few ex-City players with Balatoni & Guthrie as well. I am hoping for a title challenge this year with the extra teams the squad needs to be about 20-22 in number. Although we have the U20s to help out I still think we need another centre half.
