The real kicker for me is how much more smoothly games in Europe and South of the border flow with VAR overall and how much the elements common sense is implemented. Though this was not without it's issues in the early days, they also have the benefit of many, many angles which Scottish football doesn't actually have (but should perhaps be looked at).

The criticism of VAR and those interpreting it is fair but let's be honest, it was fucking bolted on as an afterthought instead of the common sense approach of 'we started this season without it so we'll finish it and make sure it's properly installed and officials trained by start of 23/24'

Will there be a summit to try and get through what, just now, can be still reasonably called 'teething issues'?

This would of course, need to be addressed first and foremost by the SFA and referees admitting that they have fucked an absolute shitload of decisions and have not been applying common sense to game changing decisions so I won't hold my breath that much will change.

I think it's expected and acceptable that there would we teething issues, and they should be able to use the learning to improve things.

There does seem to be a problem with officials, though, and I doubt we'll ever get away from that.

Funnily enough, a lot of your fellow supporters were adamant that the penalty we didn't get in the last minute in the 1-0 loss at Tynecastle for a blatant handball was the correct decision as 'the ball was going out of play anyway' so perhaps it's just trying to keep consistency of thought?

A foul in the box is pretty much always going to be a penalty.

The rules around handball are all over the place, and need to be addressed in the summer, if the authorities can be bothered - they probably think it's all working just fine.

Consistency of thought? Never gonna happen.

I would personally love to see that rule change.  Far too many stupid penalties for handballs when there's zero danger.

Cannae see that happening any time soon, like - what's the award if an attacking player is fouled in the box, but it's not a scoring opportunity? Indirect free kick? Nothing?

The rules around VAR and handball in particular absolutely must be looked at in the summer.

It does seem silly when pens are awarded for softish fouls while deliberate pushing and holding at set pieces is ignored.

Only thing I'll say in his defence is as much as he was minging against Rangers there, the midfield was a mess and offered literally no protection so I'm sure he won't be as exposed.

That said, just keep the same team.

True - I don't suppose Atkinson for Hill would make much difference anyway.

The team looks a wee bit top heavy to me, but we'll see what occurs.

Any chance of Hearts getting their shit together for todays game?

    I'm gonnae say naw.

Quite an attacking line up from Hearts.

Atkinson will get forward from RB, but will he get his arse torn from RC's left wing like last time?

Good to see Haring in the team, but he might be short of fitness.

A start for Oda, so a chance for him to show what he has.

Cochrane in for Kingsley has to be good - Forrest on the bench should also be good.

Ginnelly should add a bit of zip.

    Score draw.

  6. Well - I, for one, am delighted that we now finally have a full-scale discussion on the merits or otherwise of the coaching skills of John 'Yogi' Hughes.

Whatever else folk might want to say about the aforementioned J'Y'H, the guy was a decent coach whose record has been somewhat tarnished by his most recent coaching gigs.

Score draw the morn - shree-shree, probably.

Forrest isn't for me, but with Gino out at least you knew you'd get work rate and we are pretty slim on options there. Humphrys maybe but he's clearly better at affecting the game from the bench.

Agree about Kingsley, lucky, but he's maybe wanted a bit experience.

I think what's more telling is what he does next week. He's given players an opportunity to step up and they never had it in them. I want to see changes next week. Gino back, maybe bring in Kuol or Oda for a bit pace and freshness. Cochrane for Kingsley.  I'd also like to see Pollock play because he simply has to be a better option than Halliday.

Would like to see Kuol in - Pollock too, if he's fit enough.

Oda is the same as Forrest for me - just don't see what they offer the team.

I was ok with the lineup tbh, maybe one or two I would've changed but I thought it'd be competitive enough.

Don't blame Naismith, he's had 4 days with them and it can't have been an easy week. I was looking for some kind of uplift though, bit more energy etc and I thought we showed that in flashes in the first half without having any quality. But 2nd half we got deeper, gave away a terrible goal from a defensive point of view and the subs were shite.

McKay looking a bit more lively and Atkinson doing OK were about the only positives to take away from it.

I just can't see how Forrest merits a start, and Cochrane should be starting ahead of Kingsley.

Maybe it was because Naismith had talked about giving chances to folk who hadn't had opportunities, then fielding a mix of the usual suspects.

  9. It was naïve for anyone to think the changes that were made during the week would solve everything straight away.

Once Neilson had left, I was one of the c***s wanting Naismith to be put in charge, mainly based on seeing him play, and thinking 'that guy will be a manager one day.'

I wasn't impressed by his team selection, and he hasn't been able to get the players organised and motivated enough to get a result in the derby.

It's only one game, though - best hope is for an improved performance and result against Ross County that could build confidence, but County are a decent side - especially for a club that are rooted to the foot of the table.

    Fine...

The fat guy is called Pete, aged 42.  He lives in Queensferry but works at Nationwide in Dunfermline, one of the few to do the reverse commute.  He lets the location of the MotoGP determine his holiday location. He has no kids, but has a cat.

Person 1 is Neil, aged 38.  He's an electrician from Kirkliston, and listens to Metallica most days.  He supports Hibs, but attends two games a season on average.

Person 2 is Carly.  She's shagging Neil and is just hanging around him like a lost puppy.  In her spare time he paints beach pebbles and sells them on Etsy.

Person 3 is Doug, aged 17.  He's working on an apprenticeship with Network Rail.  He doesn't care about football and has two illegitimate kids.  He refuses to say Mac 'n' Cheese.

Person 4 is Gary, aged 65 and a grandfather to five.  He's the manager and talks about nothing other than looking forward to retirement.

Person 5 is Leonard.  Nobody knows anything about him. He's that worker that gets paid to just stand about watching the others do stuff.

Is there any guaranteed way of killing them all?

Think it’s pretty obvious why snodgrass was binned but Naismith hasn’t articulated it well at all.

I think he was trying to avoid hanging Snodgrass out to dry publicly - he had to talk about it as it was the elephant in the room, and he was asked about it, but he couldn't just come out and destroy the boy - I reckon Snoddy looks bad enough as it is.

I do agree Naismith was a wee bit mealy-mouthed, but that must have been a tough thing to articulate in his first interview in the role - most managers/coaches interviews are the usual clichés in different orders.

Bit of a baptism of fire for Naismith, and he has a derby tomorrow - I think he just has to do what comes naturally, whatever that is.

Snodgrass must feel like a massive cock at the moment.

  12. I'm not sure that moving a player on to make the coach's life easier (if that is actually what has happened) is great management - some would say it's better to try to get the player onside - what do I know?

Interesting that Naismith is using the word 'suspension' - would that not imply some sort of breach of discipline, etc?

If Naisy has moved Snod on for being celtic, then fair enough.

    The facts are that:

There was unrest in the dressing room; and

Snodgrass is emptied at the first opportunity.

That's a bad look for Snodgrass.
