  1. Marc Kelly from EK. Lowland League players are usually very hit or miss. But his record and position means he's probably worth a punt imo. If I'm thinking of the right guy he looked quite handy against us for Caley Braves a few years back.
  2. Marc Kelly in at Sons from EK https://twitter.com/Dumbartonfc/status/1745869043142136102?t=aqXAYfEAeEzd6BQW5QbuTg&s=19
  3. Rusty McLean back to Forfar Joined by Tyler Mykyta And Liam Harvey is away from Elgin after his loan from Aberdeen was cancelled, he's joined Buckie Thistle
  4. That's really interesting, cheers. He certainly looked like a centre-half on Tuesday night. He is really small and slight, but he didn't ever get bullied by McAllister - who is still a strapping big guy and probably as good as anyone in the league at holding player up. I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing more of him. Driving back from a fairly bleak night in Peterhead, he was one of the very few positives.
  5. Rusty McLean has signed for Forfar. I have never been so sure of a guy scoring against us (other than Ben Armour)
  6. Have you guys seen much of Cian Newbury? Either in the first team or youth games? I was up at Peterhead and really liked what I sae from him; it was no coincidence that we crumbled a bit when he went off. He was playing directly against Rory McAllister, so won't probably face another striker all season who plays in the way Rory does. He knows every trick in the book and can be a cunning/clever/dirty big guy. But he wasn't getting any change out of Newbury at all. I was stood in line with our defensive line in the first-half and his reading of the game looked excellent for such a young guy; McAllister was getting frustrated with this wee child continually popping up to win the ball from him. He looks very, very aggressive. A bit raw obviously, but the sort of guy who was just built to be a hardman on a football pitch. It's obviously incredibly early days, so I'll keep you posted on how he does. But I'm already praying that he's over the knock that forced him off and will be ready for a scrap at Bonnyrigg tomorrow. He didn't strike me as the sort of guy to be bullied by their endless long balls, team of big lumps and tricky, tight park.
  7. Nothing more nailed on than big Rusty returning to his prime Montrose form when you lot next play us if he signs.
  8. Even worse from the other angle too...How the assistant missed it I've no idea. We were doing well to contain them at that stage too. Looked like we might get to half-time at 0-0. But that blew the whole gameplan out the window.
  9. Clean through, taken out by Simonsen. Would've been a red and a penalty. You've brought it flooding back.
  10. A torn meniscus is an absolute pest of an injury if that's what it is. It's not agony like an ACL or anything, it's just a pain to get shot of. You can have a tidy-up operation, but I'd imagine that would rule him out for a wee while. Or you can just wait and it might heal itself. I did it years ago at school. We left it without an op because there would've been a big wait and I'm not a professional athlete, so it really didn't matter. Took me three months for it to get back to a normal level. But about a decade on I still have problems with that knee; it locks a lot and it just feels like there's no strength in it most of the time. Changing direction on astroturf makes it feel like it's just going to collapse. Why do we always end up with our captains getting knee injuries? First McGeever and now Durnan? Three seasons effectively playing without our captain because of a knee problem is extremely unfortunate.
  11. It's actually quite painful to see Aron playing like he is; he never hides, he's the most committed player you could ever ask for, he's always got time for the fans and he's a terrific guy, who was really good for us last year. He's probably fine filling in here and there at CB in games as a last resort, but it looks like teams have got wise to him being there every week. Normally when a player is at fault for a few goals you just want them punted to the bench. But with Aron it's genuine sympathy I feel, his confidence looks shot, he can't really play that position and he know he's toiling - which is hurting him as much as anyone.
  12. Been trying to do the maths in my head; assuming those figures are about right then you'd be looking at 600 tickets solely going to ST holders. Certainly every ST holder I know has bought a second ticket. Then you'd have players families. Say each player brings four people (mum, dad, partner and one other on average, some less, some more) you'd be looking at roughly another 100 or so. That's 700 already. Probably nearer 800 given we won't have exactly 300ST holders and the player figures are rough. 700 in the away end, 250 between directors, hospitality, press, sponsors, staff and other hingers-on would give us about 1,800. Once you take into account the fact that I don't think every seat can be occupied because of segregation, stewards and rozzers I'm sure the capacity is only about 1900 (1,978 is the highest we had against them in the Championship).
  13. I texted my brother about 10 minutes in to say his kicking was superb. And, I kid you not, the next four kicks he took ended up the stand His technique is excellent though. He really thumps a ball and almost sent us in on goal a couple of times. It's just it flicked from Ederson to Grant Adam then back to Ederson in about four minutes.
  14. I think there will be, but if they're with a Sons fan then I'd imagine they'll be better behave than a big clump from the Pride of the Rock Flute Band. I only bought tickets for family. But if I was going to pick up some for my Rangers supporting pals then I'd be choosing carefully!
  15. Rangers tickets sold out to ST holders without a public sale. That's hopefully a good sign that anyone there will be with a Sons fan, and therefore there shouldn't be big pockets of away fans to bam up our own supporters.
  16. 3-1 was maybe a bit harsh in the end. But I thought we got what we deserved last night, and if Peterhead had been 2-1 to the good after 70 minutes it would've been a fair reflection of the play. We were absolutely horrendous in the middle of the park. I can't ever remember seeing a Sons side pick up so few second balls. Until the first goal we defended our box fairly well, but it was just wave after wave of Peterhead attack. Albeit without giving Jay Hogarth very much of note to do. I think the tactic was to camp in and then hit on the break, as Peterhead committed bodies forward. But our passing was so woeful that we only managed to do it a couple of times, and Stuart McKenzie (goal aside) had next to nothing to do. Every single break felt like it broke down after two or three passes. And we're talking 10/12 yard passes right to the opposition. I'm not sure if it's confidence, fatigue or what. But it was so, so poor. In terms of the new guys, I thought both performed fairly well. But wee Cian Newbury especially. He's very slight, quite wee and looks like a child. But he was our best performer. It can't get a whole lot tougher than being chucked in against Rory McAllister who knows every trick in the book and will bounce on every mistake. But he hadn't given him much of a sniff. In the first-half especially I was stood in line with our back four, and McAllister was getting really frustrated at the way Newbury just seemed to appear to win the ball back, or just do enough to put him off a header. He reminds me a bit on that showing of Chris Hamilton (now of Dunfermline). He's very young, maybe a bit rash and might get caught out. But I'd wager there's a very good player in there based on what I saw from him last night. It looked like cramp or something that forced him off. So hopefully nothing too bad, but once he went then we crumbled. And McAllister ran the show (well, Andy McCarthy and Joe McKee ran the show, but McAllister did that striker thing of stealing the limelight!). We looked like a ticking timebomb. The defending for the first goal will have to be seen back to be believed, with us losing possession to the best lower league striker of his generation on the edge of the box. Only going to be one outcome there... We were already hanging on, but after that I was praying for the whistle. More attacks, more balls into the box and eventually it paid off when Kalvin (I think) was done for a push in the box. The third goal was a bit inconsequential as we'd just chucked everyone forward and (shock) lost possession cheaply. I liked what I saw from Jay Hogarth, albeit he wasn't all that busy. He's a very striking big guy, the sort you'd describe as a strapping young man. He's got a bit of confidence about him and he was very vocal, which is all pretty reassuring. His kicking was a bit odd. He can absolutely batter a ball, his technique looked good, but his kicks were a 50/50 split between absolutely on the money, and flying into the stand. Hopefully he can tidy that up a wee bit. No complaints apart from that though and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him. I liked what I saw of Peterhead too. From front to back. They dominated the midfield battle, they didn't give us too many sniffs at the back and that's twice that Rory has provided match winning moments in the final 10 minutes against us. The big man might spend a lot of time hobbling about like a man with a wooden leg, or looking disgusted at passes that he has to chase. But no wonder. Give him service and he makes finding the net or setting up chances look so easy. I think you guys are a bit unlucky that Stenny have been so good this season, because you'd have given Stirling Albion a good run last year imo. A really decent outfit, and one that I'd imagine will only get a bit stronger this month too.
  17. The difference with and without Newbury is quite stark. We haven't been good in this half at all though.
  18. Strange game this. Peterhead have had all the ball but are overplaying everything. Hogarth's not really had a save to make. We look like we might be a threat on the break. But haven't actually shown that beyond a few half decent counter attacks that have broken down.
  19. He had 12 for Thistle. But if you ask Alloa fans for their views on the two, I think you might be reassured by the response...
  20. Getting a goalkeeper in who made 42 appearances for a side that finished in the playoffs in League One last season looks a bit of a coup. About the best replacement for Brett as we could've found on paper. Fair play. He's still young, he'll still make mistakes and he obviously hasn't played this season. But I think that could be a huge boost to us.
  21. Going to be a rare laugh when we've got our Jays mixed up and it's Jay Cantley.
  22. Probably not a huge difference between a doughnut and a Nutella sandwich though. And I'd like to think a group of 20 something year old men would be able to be trusted in a room with some sweet treats. They aren't toddlers. Like I said, the players had meal plans last season and will do again this year. I had a chat with our sports scientist at the time about it. Most players are also fitness obsessives; and I don't think you can complain about the conditioning of this squad at all. They are a physically impressive bunch. I think there's plenty to get our knickers in a twist about; the goalkeeping situation, our lack of centre-halves, the pitch, the ownership, tactical decisions. This really isn't worth it imo.
