Rule H3 says otherwise - “League positions will be determined by home and away results between clubs in MEMBERSHIP”

There's a lot more to that rule than you've included. Which should be obvious since only counting results against clubs in membership, would mean all the Guest club results are scrubbed from the table.

I have just put this onto the Highland League General Discussion thread. I am hoping that someone here can show that this is incorrect re Bronze standard licence required for that league by the end of 24/25. Would the same apply to the LL? LongTimeLurker's words are under-lined. Mine are not.

LongTimeLurker quotes this on the Non League Matters forum:

More details of what unfolded from the Press & Journal:

Does this imply that all Highland League clubs must reach Bronze level licencing by the end of 2024/25? Anyone have any idea about this?
Presumably it would be really difficult for every club to achieve this level in 12 months, if at all?
Likewise will the Lowland League be bringing this requirement into its' rules and regs?
The other thing would be that such a requirement would reduce the numbers of Tier 6 clubs able to take promotion to the HL and the LL.
Hopefully someone will know different and apologies if I have read this wrongly !!

The HFL quotes are just about informing everyone what was required, with those with a chance of promotion following the due process.

    Unless I'm missing something?

Their general guide was to invite the runners up in either the HL/LL, and then changed it last season when they parachuted Cowdenbeath in from 15th in the league, seen as many as a punishment to tier 5 for knocking back the confidence league.

First year there was meant to be a draw on either Highland or Lowland would fill the 3rd spot caused by the increase in European teams.

Second was the other league's turn.

Year 3 nobody knew if that would continue. While you might blame the Conference rejection. Plenty of others would point to a 4th placed team being considered a "runner up" Fact it was a University team probably didn't help either.

I don’t think I stated it was a qualification? However, they have shown yet again their inconsistency with their decision making.

It's not an inconsistency when they decide year to year. There is no hard rule to what they would do. Just like with the Challenge Cup.

Why state they have invited the HL runners up then?? Its not really difficult re the Uni, they were the next member club, therefore runners up, as going by the rules B teams don’t count.

It's an invite. Not a qualification. The SPFL can make up their own rules just like the Lowland League.

In other news, Buckie players appear to be boycotting their awards night, so it's been cancelled.

Before playoffs : players dont fancy it

Cancelled playoffs as the committee either couldn't or wouldn't get licensing sorted : we're boycotting our own awards after a championship winning season.

Just finished this series. I thought it was excellent, really loved it.

Really hopeful that there will be more, but I hear that it's not expected.

I think it would be very difficult with the way the season finishes. Although there are a few loose threads that could probably be dramatised.

By the sounds of it, the show has been a critical and commercial success. If it does get picked up I'd expect an anthology series approach: Fall of Shogun / The Next Shogun type. Or another one of Clavell's books adapted by the same production team.

Doubt we'd have heard of some of these clubs but for one man in the Juniors going all out to save his SJFA honorarium.

Would teams like Broomhill (LL version) or Caley Braves/Cumbernauld Colts want to play in the Wosfl?

    Broomhill I wonder about.

Cumbernauld Colts I see hanging around. They'd been running an amateur team before the Lowland League. Never really pushed the boat out for the SPFL. Their model seems more in line with all the other former youth/ams that joined the WoSFL. They've just got Broadwood, which is a different kind of cage :)

Braves went through the SoS and persisted with the multiple rejections by the Lowland. They've never seemed to have the grand ambitions of Broomhill or EK. I see them hanging around as the Edusport side of things means it makes financial sense.

    Thing is, there's two Broomhill's.

BSC Glasgow got the benefit of the doubt from plenty of people when they first formed. Similarly, Rossvale Juniors. Then ambitions outstripped the foundations. Which led to the BSC/Broomhill and Caley Locos/Rossvale splits. There are now a couple of clubs further up the pyramid than the originating club and its not clear how they're sustainable beyond a handful of people having a vanity project.

The backers of Broomhill would probably be better thought of if they folded the club and aided BSC Glasgow's efforts. Instead they've gone down the Open Goal and Dumbarton rental route.

To spin this round to Caley Braves. They've at least sorted themselves a home. Although I think the connection between Edusport and the Braves has been cut-off a little. So if Chris Ewing ever walks away it might be another house of cards.

I am not anti ground sharing, but how many grounds have they been at in their 10 years; half a dozen by now.

    1. accepted to the Lowland League using Saracen Park but never played there
    2. Lochburn Park, Maryhill
    3. Recreation Park, Alloa
    4. Brooadwood, Cumbernauld
    5. Whatever branding Dumbarton's ground has these days.

How many folk would Caley Braves attract to home games ?

    TIA

Low double digits probably. If we're just talking about what the Braves bring.

A factor in the drop-off is the B teams lost their novelty. Celtic B went from 259 to 104 to 48. There was also a point coming out of COVID where they weren't charging tickets prices.

If licence applications were opened today how far short of the standard would Beith be?

I'm assuming they still need to chuck a few quid at this to get up to scratch so maybe the playing budget will take a hit in the next season or two?

From an obvious outsider perspective. Last I heard was they had a planning permission on installing floodlights, which may mean some of the issues around the ground ownership have been resolved. But still haven't put anything up.

I've just realised Eyemouth finishing on -3pts in 2018-19 was of course under the original conferences, effectively at Premier Division level, not in First Division.

First Division record low is -1pt by (guess who) Eyemouth in 2004-05... so Vale need 1 win to avoid that.

At least going from -6pts to -3pts from last season means they've shown some improvement :whistle

Didn't know they had changed their whole side.

I didn't know for sure until I checked. They've been working through a fixture backlog so it seemed like a good chance.

They've just gone Tues-Thurs-Saturday with Wednesday around the corner.

That Gretna score shows how poor the standard of the south must be given Star can still win it.

I think everyone knows the standard ain't great, but a minor cup game when you're going for a league title is hardly a priority.

Winning on Wednesday against Wigtown & Bladnoch gives them the edge in the title race, but still means going away to their title rival Creetown in a game they can't afford to lose.

Surely going to 16-16-16-11 if Broxburn go up is the sensible thing to do as that would match this season - otherwise you'd have a 28 game Second Division and 33 game Third Division...

Don't think it can be 16-16-16-11. It's either 4 down all the way or 4 up all the way depending on a deficit or surplus from the LL Play-off.

    Broxburn go up its 16-16-15-11

    SoS/WoS go up it'd be 16-16-15-12.

As much as I don't like B teams especially playing in the Lowland League I'm surprised this didn't go through..

They'd have been starting at the very bottom of the pyramid.

The EoSFL committee must have their reasons (anybody know) as far as I know they've never refused B teams before.

Was it the committee? I thought there was an SGM to vote on them.

In regards to cups, I agree it does feel like you’re punished for being successful

This is often the focus when talking about cup runs. That its the successful club that's being negatively impacted.

Which in this case from a Premier point of view would be Darvel getting their season extended.

But in order to do that, there's two other clubs forced into extending their seasons through no fault of their own.

Comparing the English pyramid which has automatic relegation spots from the League.

    Thanks for making that point.

The Scottish pyramid is now 10 years old.

The English pyramid had plenty of teething problems in the first 10 years and beyond. It didn't just magically come together the way it is now.
