  1. Pretty much, they were Bridge of Don Thistle at the time and playing at Hillhead until the University joined the juniors (the NRJFA didn't allow two juniors to groundshare). They then moved to groundshare with Newburgh Thistle amateurs and eventually changed their name. I presume the amateur team will continue, it was never really a merger as such.
  2. If you failed to pay it would in all likelihood go to a County Court in England and you'd get a default judgement against you assuming you don't defend it. If you failed to pay the fine plus costs you get a CCJ which would affect your credit rating. Technically they can't chase you for the money in Scotland based on a CCJ but they could apply to the Register to get a warrant issued that could send the Sheriff's officers after you. This would incur more fees on top. It's probably easier to pay the fine, since it's a council one.
  3. It's alright, not a huge selection of places, Old Bridge Inn does decent beer and music. Skiing Doo can be lively as well. There's a nightclub called the Vault which is full of local underagers and tourists in Berghaus fleeces.
  4. I might be wrong, but are you referring to the "Stables plan" of two 10 team divisions? That was voted down years ago as the plan was for playing once home and away and then an extended group stage League Cup. It was a terrible idea! The current HFL plan is to split if the numbers go above 20. How practical this is really given with 18 teams it's a struggle to complete the season before the playoffs. There certainly needs to be a discussion about how a pyramid structure can encompass the north. It's difficult since it's geographically huge but with a relatively small population and thus the quality drops off fairly rapidly. Currently as well, North of Tay (Bridge) clubs would fit into HFL territory. I'm not sure how things will progress up here, but given the majority in favour of the pyramid, it can't be ignored.
  5. A transitional season of groups or similar in the first instance, then a couple of seasons of relegation and promotion will sort that.
  6. I'm sure a while back he was throwing a strop about having to travel to Fife for games which was apparently bankrupting the club. Real Juniors there.
  7. The SJFA should've bid to be the association covering all non league football in Scotland below the Highland and Lowland Leagues. However, that ship sailed long ago. It's difficult to see what relevance the association will have over the next few years. So much is devolved to the regions anyway.
  8. But there are teams in the juniors that may feel challenging in League 1 or 2, having a cup run in the Scottish Cup, League Cup or Challenge Cup is attractive to them. Denying other clubs the ability to do that isn't right. A club that disagrees should do what they feel is best for them, that is entirely acceptable. What is unacceptable is blocking the ability of other teams to have a go at a higher level. No-one should force the likes of Talbot to step up to play outwith Ayrshire or the West, but the potential to do that should be there. Back in the day, I never thought County would be playing in the Premiership. The promotion season was a fantastic time, the year before a run to the cup final beating Celtic along the way, a League Cup victory. This season we're struggling - but I'm delighted we played at the top level for as long as we did. If we are relegated then I'd hope we could challenge again for promotion.
  9. Talk about irony... Talbot dominate the West Juniors because they have significantly better funding than the rest of the clubs. There's nowhere to go above the Superleague and it appears you're quite happy to suck up all the titles and leave a load of other clubs scrambling in your wake. No-one's saying you must be promoted, but there's other clubs who might fancy a crack at the Lowland League. I appreciate it's difficult now you're realising that your side might in fact be average in the grand scheme of things, rather than superior in its own little bubble.
  10. If a club steps up then they cut cloth accordingly. This involves putting the best team they can on the field within their budget. This might mean you're not competing for a title and you might even be relegated. Isn't this finding your level cliché the whole point of a pyramid? You don't seem to understand what a pyramid system involves, despite playing in one at the moment...
  11. I'm glad you're not letting this get to you
  12. Currently the only play off is between EoSFL and SoSFL for promotion to the LFL if both teams are licenced. I wouldn't imagine there'd be playoffs between EoSFL Premier and First etc once they get reconstituted, so it'd be exactly like the current ERJFA setup anyway.
  13. The dividing line is set as 56.4513° N; if you assume that's a decimal degree, which is how it's written then it's the mouth of the Tay. If you take it as dms 56° 45' 13" N, then it's roughly the mouth of the River North Esk which is the boundary between Angus and Aberdeenshire. I guess that makes some sense. Who knows...
  14. Agreed for personal belongings, but you'd be a fool to go abroad without any travel insurance, even a broken bone can cost hundreds/thousands and that's without all the airline faff. Imagine you needed surgery or a prolonged hospital stay followed by repatriation. Then it's fundraising drives and selling homes to pay. Sorry, just think folk don't realise how expensive healthcare is and assume bad things won't happen to them...
  15. A Highland team was always going to be admitted, Badenoch and Strathspey was a relatively untapped area with potential - that's not materialised. Turriff, similarly. Formartine, I don't know. The rumour that the rest of the league voted against Banks o' Dee is probably true, but then Banks o' Dee didn't turn up to the meeting where the clubs were supposed to give their presentations, so it's not that surprising... In any case, the constitution has changed so that teams can apply at the AGM. Yes, that doesn't guarantee admission, but I think a licenced team being turned down would be unlikely, the HFL would not wish to challenge the SFA.
  16. There's no opposition per se to further clubs joining the HFL, it's in the constitution: interested clubs may apply at the AGM. Yes, the league has not actively encouraged applicants, but they've not actively discouraged them. The pyramid is stretched very thin in the north, we have a fifth of the population, but technically half of the pyramid - this is clearly not sustainable, but is a relic of the number of licenced clubs in the north v south. The geography of the region makes an all encompassing Division 2 difficult. The league is already very Aberdeen-centric, to the detriment of many Highland and Moray teams. Some sort of formal structure below would be welcome, but I wonder if it would be better regionalised à la EoSFL and SoSFL.
  17. I wonder if there were a mass move of clubs, say a league of >20ish you'd maybe have a transitional season: playoff groups or a single round or that random 8/8/8 the SPFL was planning; then split the next season based on results. Not perfect, but would be a reasonable quick way of creating somewhat even divisions.
  18. They're Borders sides, so no. Threave are from Castle Douglas.
  19. Setting a line of latitude is just daft, whether it's Tay or Esk: it would've made more sense just to say Angus was Lowland area or Highland area or whatever. If they were going by junior districts, then Montrose Roselea have thrown a spanner in the works now.
  20. The dotted line is at 56.4513° N, that's clearly the mouth of the Tay, it's definitely in a decimal format.
  21. I'm guessing the club just north of Dundee would be Montrose Roselea. They've played at Links Park in the league, I wonder if that would be a permanent plan rather than doing up Broomfield, although that park wouldn't be too far off. Will be interesting to see what the HFL do, clubs are in theory free to apply as per their constitution, I suspect a rejection will result in an appeal to the SFA that'll set the cat amongst the pigeons.
  22. Not sure why the Blue Brazil would be relegated two divisions, but Hawick RA are on a bit of a shoogly peg in the LFL... If Cowden do come down then there'll be two down from LFL as well.
