  1. Paton made himself captain as well? That seems pure ego and tinpot to me.

Not going to end well is it? You beat a fellow pub team last week but it only glosses over the inevitable battle between the two pub teams for bottom spot.

Surely a Player/Manager is going to be captain whenever he is on the field?!

Besides our Club Captain Jonathan Page hasn’t been playing and the fact he didn’t even come on today after our centre half got sent off would suggest he isn’t fancied.

Can’t argue on the second point, it’s going to be a two way fight for 9th this season.

  2. I doubt if many know what he was offered . What we do know is that he glaringly stood out from the other applicants due to his preparation and attention to detail.

I would like to think that has been the case with Michael Paton this time round.

Last week's dramatic change in fortunes was certainly more than a lucky throw of the dice as the improvement was evident in all areas of the team.  I  think it deserve more credit than he is currently receiving on here .

Let’s get real here, Michael O’Neill wasn’t offered a near 3 year deal and would doubt there have been any longer than the two year deal handed to Dods at the end of the promotion season.

Nobody is criticising the appointment of Paton in itself. He may well prove to be an excellent manager and I sincerely hope he does. It’s more how quick it has happened when perhaps we should have evaluated how things go over the next week or two first. The length of the contract concerns me, however I can only hope/assume that there is some form of clause included that isn’t going to f**k the club over should things not go to plan.

  3. Is it possible that Michael might just have shown the leadership qualities , preparation and organisational skills that have been missing for the past 3 years ?
Sometimes these people do come along and surprise everyone. This could turn out to be one of those times.
I seem to remember similar comments being made about Michael O'Neill. [emoji6]

    Michael O’Neill wasn’t offered a near 3 year contract.
  4. I’m trying to get my head round why we have handed out a near 3 year deal to someone that has only managed one game (albeit he done very well).

A very risky decision in our current predicament and one that I hope pays off. If it doesn’t there will be major questions being asked of current committee.

Do I think he’s the right man to take us forward? Quite possibly but it’s far too early to make a bold call quite like that in my opinion.

    Come on City

  5. I'm sure criticising him on a public message board will help [emoji106]
I know you seem to have an agenda against him at the moment and he hasn't been very good since before the Cove game last season, but I don't think he can be blamed for any of the goals yesterday.  In fact he made a couple of decent saves which at the time kept us in the game.

I agree that picking out individuals for criticism on here isn’t the answer but the reality is neither of our goalkeepers are good enough. In my opinion this should have been one our main priorities in the summer.

We were still in the game yesterday when Lewis needlessly opted to punch away a cross and not very well. This put the defence under unnecessary pressure and we end up conceding a penalty as a result.

Equally in his defence, the players in front of him aren’t protecting him enough either.
  6. Looking forward to watching the stream. Haven’t been able to watch the last couple of games but would seem as if this young squad is already showing signs of clicking together.

Hopefully more positives to take tomorrow ahead of two very tough Betfred matches.

  7. Yeah, he was there a month and played 4 games to be fair. He didn't leave Irish football until January. Manager has worked with him before and presumably knows what he's getting.

Maybe only played 4 games but didn’t see anything that would have made me want him to stay at Brechin. Games passed him by, extremely lazy and shirks out of challenges.

Be interesting to see how he gets on.
  8. Good to see the six lads who were offered new contracts have all signed. Lewis McMinn, Scott Reekie, Jonathan Page,  Sean McIntosh, Ross Brown and Kieran Inglis.
Really pleased that Inglis in particular has signed, I think he is a cracking wee player.

Agree with that, think Inglis is a really tidy player.

  9. Harsh on Connor (the wage is maybe too much but he is better than a bit part player) he is a good player but hasn’t been given a proper run of starts. There were only a few forfar fans who were happy to see him go

If he signs he will do well for you and is a very likeable player

Was only going by the number of substitute appearances over the last couple of years, which would be suggestive he wouldn’t be able to demand such a healthy part time wage. I’d expect someone like Jackson to be on that kind of figure.

Not doubting at all he would be a good addition - we need fit guys who are willing to work hard. Last season we had too many players with decent pedigrees but just didn’t seem to give a flying f**k. Thankfully all of them are now gone and we’ve offered deals to those who had some heart whenever they played.
  10. It could be that the club might be liable to pay wages from the time players sign . Just a suggestion as I don't know about football contracts but I would assume pre season training would come under paid employment.  The sensible thing therefore is to hold off on contract signing as long as possible in these uncertain times.

I have heard that quite a number of new  players have been earmarked so fingers crossed it is just a case of getting them signed.

I’m assuming we’ll start paying as soon as per-season starts, just like any other season.

I’m not expecting us to have most of our squad signed up yet like a number of teams have already but some progress on that front would be good, even a few new contracts signed to give us a base to build on.
  11. Basically no 1 priority has to be to get things properly sorted on the park both fitness and ability wise.    Offering contracts to players who showed a wee bit of potential  last season might be a bit risky IMO, but we do need a fair squad who are willing to fight for  their place.   There can be no passengers .
I am sure talks are ongoing with new players and as is our policy ,  announcements won't be made until everything has been signed and finalised.
We all thought last seasons signings were good on paper but it turned out quite a few were not up for the fight.  Hopefully this year we manage to secure a few with an appetite .............................for football  [emoji6]

My point is that these players have been offered new contracts weeks ago - surely at least a few of these have signed by now?

If they have only agreed and haven’t signed along the dotted line yet...why not? What is Mark and Stevie doing at the moment?
  12. Enjoy connor coupe £250 pw

Why would we pay £250 p/w to someone who, as someone else has mentioned, has proven nothing to be more than a bit-part player in league 1.

We offered contract extensions to a handful of players weeks and weeks ago, how it is even possible that we’ve not heard whether they have signed or gone elsewhere yet?!

Yes there is still plenty of time until the season starts but we are so far behind other teams yet again. That’s been several seasons now with different managers at the helm - where does the problem lie?
  13. Brechin getting it tight on social media because we’ve been spared of relegation and think there is a conspiracy theory because Ken Ferguson is on the SPFL committee.

Quite surprisingly, I’m also seeing a number of pundits who are supposed to know a lot about our game very confused as to why we haven’t been tarred with the same brush as Partick and Stranraer (and likely Hearts).

Are these people aware that there is a playoff system at the bottom of league 2 and not automatic relegation?

  14. I think you're forgetting just how poor the squad was before January.  Wilson got rid of Ngoy, Crawford and Knox and replaced them with Scott, Jackson and McCabe (the latter two haven't lit the heather on fire and should be doing better but are still an improvement on what we had).  He's also sent back the keeper to St Johnstone who was just taking up a loan spot and brought in Petkov and Strachan to improve the defence.
We're in the position we're in because of mistakes made in previous seasons (Dods should have been sacked at the end of the Championship season, Smith should have gone at the end of the League One season).  Wilson was never going to come in and suddenly make us a good team again, but there have definitely been improvements made.  Unfortunately those improvements aren't going to be enough to stop us finishing bottom.  Hopefully by the time the playoffs come around there will have been further improvements to pull off another 'great escape'.

What improvements? Other than those two matches recently in which we kept clean sheets (offering very little threat at the other end as a result) we’ve still been leaking soft goals left right and centre.

Mark has come in at a difficult time and his hands are a little tied but 3 wins in 24 matches is a dire record in any case. He’s been backed well in January but despite what you say I don’t think we are much stronger. On paper, yes, but these players are either unfit or underperforming.

There are far too many players that are overweight which is affecting us greatly, why can’t the coaching staff see this!
