  1. Deserved something today. Ultimately paid the price for a pretty brutal first half.

I get that some may disagree, but the fans need to stop booing absolutely f***ing everything when we're under pressure. It does nobody any favours. If we're shite then by all means give them a roasting at halftime and fulltime, but during the game, it's counter-productive and in all honesty, embarrassing.

Not a happy clapper by any means btw before anyone hits me with that nonsense.

I think that our only hope is that McGeady -whether you like him or not, he's not an idiot - is telling Smith and Mathie exactly how inept the coaching is.

I remember in the Sunderland Til I Die documentary, he was openly quite critical of the management of Chris Coleman so he certainly seems like he isn't afraid to speak up if he isn't impressed with what he's seeing

There are many others much better versed on here, but have you looked at/contacted https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/worried-about-someone/?

Unfortunately the Ayr branch is permanently closed.  Haven't called them though, will speak to her about it and see. Thanks for your suggestion.

Have you contacted social work in regards to the grandparents?

Also bypass your Mrs and go and speak to her dad, arsehole needs spoken too.

Thanks for this. There has been no contact with social work so far, her GP decided to send a MH nurse out to do an assessment which I assume is to test for dementia but her Gran refused to participate because she couldn't understand what she was being asked. I sent a message to both her Dad and her Uncle basically pleading with them to help and they ignored me completely. I couldn't believe it to be honest.

I'd advise to phone up regularly and chase that application. Emphasise how difficult the situation is and the carer burden.

Forgive me for putting on my professional hat on a Friday night (I have worked in Dementia care and am currently training to become a mental health nurse), but based on the incident of her Papa being left on the floor all night I would say that this situation cannot continue as it is. From the point of view of avoiding harm occurring, something needs to be done ASAP.

BTW the "we don't test for things like that here" is BS. They could have referred to Elderly MH Liaison or the Community Team. You don't require a specific diagnosis to receive support from them. I know this for a fact.

It's a difficult situation and how your fiance is feeling is completely understandable, as is your feeling of helplessness.

I hope this burden is soon lifted, but do chase this assessment and/or try to get a referral to the Community Team.

Thanks for this, very helpful. To be honest, the most difficult thing is that we have no idea who to speak to. Her Papa now has delirium and her Gran doesn't understand why he can't come home, but also is completely insistent that she is fine. When you say to chase the assessment, would you advise calling the South Ayrshire Social Work team directly?

  4. My fiancee is currently at breaking point with severe depression and anxiety. She has found herself for the last 9 months as the sole carer for her Grandparents, both of whom have suspected dementia. In addition to her own full-time job, she is having to go round to their house every day to make their meals, pay their bils, clean up and generally keep their lives going, and often receiving abuse while doing it because her Gran's dementia is at a stage where she can be quite aggressive and she completely denies there being anything wrong with her, despite the fact that she sometimes does not even recognise her own husband, washes dishes with shampoo and can't remember the names of her own children.

There is no care package in place, so she feels completely alone. I help where I can but her father and her Uncle (her Grandparents' sons) just leave her to it and are completely useless, ignoring her cries for help and her messages to them saying that she cannot do this anymore more. She tried to report her concerns to Crosshouse Hospital last September when her Gran was in for an op, and they just responded saying that they 'don't test for things like that here'. Her GP was also informed months ago of concerns but they failed to follow it up.

Last week, her Papa fell and her Gran completely shut down, just left him lying on the floor all night. He is now in hospital. A request for homecare for both of them has now been submitted but we have been informed that this will take six months to be actioned. My fiancee cannot do this for another six months, she feels physically sick all the time, shaking with anxiety and talking about how she wishes she was dead. I have no idea what to do, I feel completely helpless. The only thing that will make this situation any better is for the burden to be lifted from her shoulders but being told that care is 6 months away was a hammer blow. She says that she would not take her own life because she couldn't do that to me but I'm sure plenty of people have said that and then been pushed to the point of no return.

  5. As we will meet each other in the Scottish cup I looked up Jack Baird I see he has only had 8 appearances . Is that for this season I take it. I really like Jack when he was with Saints. Any news on him would be appreciated.  Looking forward to our cup tie Ayr is one of the best days out at the football.
You'll be an even bigger fan of him when he plays against you
  6. I'm sure Mathie will prove to be a very astute appointment, but why is there absolutely nothing on the club's social media channels?

We really need to be a bit more professional in that sense, other clubs would have made the announcement on official channels accompanied by an interview and an article. We get told by the Voice of Reason's Twitter account. The club website still has the link to the 'Hopkin Appointed as Ayr Manager' article in very prominent positions. Definitely an area that needs improvement asap.

I sat watched the first episode of the first series last night, having never heard of this documentary before.

It's utterly laughable how their fans reacted to getting a telling from Celtic in pre season. A friendly FFS, and some of them are utterly frothing at the mouth. Another case of English football underestimating our best side IMO.

Was also delightful to briefly see Dorus de Vries!

You'll realise as the programme goes on that a lot of that foaming at the mouth stuff was actually probably from a different game entirely. For all the praise it gets about being a brilliant documentary, which it is, the editing is very poor in parts e.g. Sunderland miss a chance away at Brentford and then it shows the fans with their head in their hands at the SoL

  8. Not entirely sure you can sit there and slate the entire Sunderland fanbase for being hypocritical knobs when the documentary itself only features about 15 of them in total. In general, they are a good set of fans and to average 30,000 in League One when you can't beat Accrington Stanley is pretty decent regardless of the club.

Charlie Methven outs himself as an absolute whopper though. FWIW, he is absolutely wrong about the stadium music as well. Having been to the SoL a couple of times, I can honestly say that Dance of the Knights (The Apprentice tune) was an incredible choice of music to build up to kick off. Why you would can that in favour of making it like 'a rave in Ibiza', I just cannot understand.

Ayr United 1-2 Dunfermline Athletic (Saturday 12th December 2015)

My memory isn't too well, but I believe we were level on points at the top with Ayr going in to this game, with them still having a game in hand, so this game was going to prove pivotal. We all knew the Pars had a fantastic team and should be steamrolling the league, but Ayr went on some fantastic winning runs, including beating us at EEP, and proved that this title wasn't going to be a walkover.

I can remember a game a few weeks previous to this one, where we drew 1-1 with Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill, with Ayr continuing their winning run. In the pub after, a good few of us Pars fans' bums were twitching about potentially being in League 1 for another season. Surely not?

I loaded up a carry out and headed on the train down myself. I was due to go with a couple of mates but they took not well. f**k it, I said, I'll just go on my own. So I did. And what a day I had.

There was a decent amount of Pars fans there for a freezing December night. The Pars had flirted with the goal early on, and Fleming in goals for Ayr looked really dodgy. Michael Moffat looked to have been brought down in the box, however he was judged to have dived. He was given a yellow card. Up to this point he was still to score against his former employers. LAter on, there was no doubt about this foul, as Gerry McLauchlan halved him in two outside the box. McLauchlan deservedly given a yellow card. Cheesy McAusland almost stabbed the ball in the net from the resulting dead ball. We were well on top. The breakthrough finally came when Fais back-heeling Paton in down the right wing, Paton crossed the ball in, and there was that man Moffat on the end of it to head past Fleming. Great scenes.

Brought back to Earth not more than 2 minutes later as Gerry McLauchlan, who resembled an albino clone of Sloth from the Goonies, headed past Murdoch. Game back on. I think Ayr started to come on top before the break and they had a really, really good chance to go 2-1 up but they couldn't find a finish. At half time we were still optimistic of a win.

Second half starts off in the worst possible way with Joe Cardle, our key man, being sent off. We were really up against it. It was constant Ayr attack, although I don't think they overly troubled Murdoch. He was called in to question a few times, but the saves were pretty routine. Under 20 minutes after going down to ten men, our pace with Fais and Hopkirk hit Ayr on a counter, and Hopkirk found himself in a 1 on 1 situation, rounds the goalkeeper, and puts it in to an empty net. Glorious scenes.

After a barrage of Ayr attacks, we came through on the other side with all 3 points. At that point I knew that we meant business and the League was back in our hands again. Losing in that manner must have made you sick as a dog if you were an Ayr fan, though.

I purchased a Blue MD out the off license on the way back to the station for the train home. Train as rammed with Pars fans with similar ideas and the banter and good times were on the go the full journey home. I ended up absolutely pished that night. Brilliant!

Genuinely never visited the toilets in the away end at Somerset, could somebody please summarise the experience and perhaps offer some kind of comparison that may put it in perspective for me?
    Thanks in advance.

    Have you seen Trainspotting?...

    Asked and answered. Thanks hombre.

For next season only, have two divisions in Scotland - current Premiership & Championship as Top League, and current League1 & League 2 as Lower League. Scrap the League Cup and start the season with a playoff between current bottom of Championship & Top of League 1 for right to play in top league next season. The two leagues play out as normal, with top 12 and bottom 10 in the top league making up the top two leagues for the season after, and top 10, bottom 10 in the second lower league making up the two lower leagues for the season after.  If the Highland League & Lowland League champions want in on the action, then they and the bottom of League 2 take part in a mini tournament at the same time as the playoff mentioned above.

It doesn't help the second/third in League 1 at the moment, and doesn't really help with the issue of Champions, but it is a fairer compromise and would make for a really interesting season in 2020/21.

    Thoughts?????

You'll be popular in Kirkcaldy m9.

Attrocious toilets, w**k catering. Not all of it's under cover.

There's literally not a stadium in this league that is bad when it's a full house with a boisterous atmosphere, easier to judge grounds on there average days.

Fair, but I have to say I'm not one that would judge catering and toilets as being vital to the experience. What you are saying about a full house is true, but you only need 1,400 or so at Somerset to get a decent atmosphere going.

  13. Somerset is comfortably the best venue when there is a strong away support and a crackling atmosphere from both ends. Only thing that lets it down is the lack of surrounding pubs.

In terms of worst, Inverness Caley Thistle's stadium is in an absolutely beautiful location but my god what a soulless cesspit it is, particularly with their current crowds.

Because the result mattered not one jot fundamentally and the toxic atmosphere between the two clubs made replaying it massively problematic. The fact remains the rule in this country is and always has been that incomplete games are replayed from the start. There is the infamous case of Denis Law scoring 6 goals for Manchester City in a cup tie with Luton which was abandoned with City leading 6-2 in the 69th minute. They lost 3-1 when it was rearranged.

The fact that Airdrieonians went boom after it didn't help either, however we are only dealing in facts here. The game was awarded to Ayr despite there only being 21 minutes played.

  15. Brechin City 1-2 Ayr United - Playoff Final 2nd Leg (2010-11)

After a 1-1 draw at Somerset in the 1st Leg of the final, it was a winner takes all game at Glebe Park in Brechin to reach the 2nd tier having been relegated from there the previous season. The sun was shining, the hedge was gleaming, and there was segregation in place to separate the healthy home crowd from the 1,600 Ayr fans in the away end. The mood was buoyant and the atmosphere was bouncing.

    Image_07_jpg.jpg

Until Jonny Tiffoney (Beast) decided to pass the ball into his own net to give Brechin a 1-0 lead just before half-time.

    Image_07_jpg.jpg

The second half was dominated by Ayr as Brian Reid's gallant troops pressed for an equaliser. Craig Nelson in the Brechin goal was pulling off saves that defied all sorts of scientific laws, until Mark Roberts stepped up with 13 minutes to go with a goal that only he could have scored. Dropped a shoulder and left Nelson on his arse, then rifled home into the empty net. HWFG.

    Image_20_jpg.jpg

The final 10 minutes are a total blank to me, I can't recall whether we dominated or whether things seemed to be destined for extra time. The clock read 88 minutes when Michael Moffat found himself through on goal, one-on-one with Craig Nelson. Hearts were in mouths. Bang. Through Nelson's legs. Cue what the kids call 'scenes'.

    Image_21_jpg.jpg

    Image_17_jpg.jpg

Managed to hold on for the final few minutes and we were up. Glorious pitch invasion and a party in the sun.

Did we get relegated the very next season? Of course we f***ing did.

They've had both chances over three-quarters of a league campaign and they haven't done enough. Which is more than sufficient grounds to call the league standings as they are, in the unfortunate but quite likely event that we can't play any football this side of June 30.

I'm surprised you aren't backing up your argument by quoting the obvious precedent here of the result standing when a game is abandoned after 75 minutes.......     Care to comment?  HMMM??  🤪

Actually Rudi, Ayr United were awarded a 1-0 win over Airdrieonians when the fixture in April 2002 was abandoned after 21 minutes.

Perhaps not the most exciting but heading to Blackpool v Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

First time heading to Bloomfield Rd and first time in Blackpool for years.

Looking forward to it. Any recent experiences of the place and/or decent pre match pubs?

Stay away from Yates at the seafront. This is good advice at the best of times, however there is a ticket-only event on for Sunderland fans featuring some 'entertainer' called Wee Phillie, whom Sunderland fans largely agree is an absolute danger to society. Take a look at this photo and judge for yourself..
