  1. Our home support is dull and boring and I believe at times counter productive. A pathetic version of "Dumbarton clap clap clap" is all anyone can muster as "support" and the rest of the time it's spent berating Gilhaney or Grindlay or the ref for being shite. I can't wait for the Swiss boys to be back over, those guys ken the score.

At first I thought that was some sort of wounded animal crying for help. I prefer the "woooooaaaaah you're shite aaaaahhhhhh" to be honest.

To be honest, the atmosphere would be ten times better if we were allowed to stand at games.

  2. Presumably you've never been to Ibrox, Parkhead or Central Park? Perhaps you should find a new club to support if its that annoying?

Totally agree, there's nothing wrong with our home support.

Apart from the likes of the folk that left as soon as the Dundee goal went in, that is; nothing worse than not staying to applaud the team off when they've given everything.

  3. The auld guy who abuses the refs hasn't been well. He's actually a nice fella if a little eccentric. Get well soon Fraser.

I think the lads up the back are excellent. The goalie chant never fails to make me and my daughter laugh. It'd be good to hear some more variety in the songs beyond that though and Dumbarton! Clap! Clap! Clap! ( three times then stop) is not the best

Here's a wee starter. In the 70s they would sing ( to the tune of I'm the urban spaceman baby- look it up on YouTube) "We're the mental sonsteam baby we've got class - mental ya bass!"

    I'll get ma coat...............

    This should be brought back.

  4. When is series 5 getting shown, is it even made yet?

This is my new favourite show, hurry up.

Apparently it's going to be shown in two parts: first episode on July 15 2012 and then second half in the summer of 2013. Can't wait.

  5. Those who apply to Oxbridge have a pretty high percentage chance of being a c**t. Those who get rejected from Oxbridge and see St Andrews as the next best thing must be odds-on c***s.

That's a pretty narrow minded view. Also, what does that have to do with the quality of the university?

  6. Correct. This can be considered fine, depending on your viewpoints, but to claim that it's approach is on an academic basis, and not a deliberate ideological and financial basis is laughable.

St Andrew's has been happy to portray itself as, and recruit on the basis of being, a handy Northern backup if young Montague doesn't go to Oxers. It's a Rejects Retreat.

I don't see the logic behind suggesting St Andrews is bad because it's an Oxbridge rejects retreat. How does that make it a bad university? Surely if a candidate gets rejected from his first choice, they will accept the second best one? Why would you want to go to a lesser university?

  7. Based on what criteria, out of interest?

If it ultimately boils down to vague indicators like graduate employability then I suspect the prestigious name, and in many cases, mummy/daddy's connections that count for much more than the actual standard of teaching.

Personally, the reason that I chose it was that it impressed me more than any other university that I been to visit or had read about. It had an excellent reputation for what I wanted to do, and as far as I could see was the best in the country for it (not to mention some of the groundbreaking research coming from St Andrews). Also, since the entry requirements are considerably higher than other universities in Scotland, there is (in general) a higher standard of student. As for the quality of teaching, I can assure you it is of a very high standard.

So what if the prestigious name boosts employability? If it helps me to get a job, I couldn't care less.

It's certain to have an unparalleled Scottish university 'wankers: good guys' ratio though.

True, and this did almost put me off going at first, but I looked past that and have met plenty people that are good guys.
