Yeh good point, i just thought maybe they saw a mass at the bladder when in looking at the prostate but that makes sense

Yep, the stuff they find in screening is pretty incredible, the beatson is an incredible place, how they can treat some cancers is incredible, my old man given 6-8 months october 2022 saved by a guy using radiography to send a tiny bit of chemo through his veins to cut the blood supply to a liver tumour, how they can do these things is beyond amazing.

As someone who has undergone 2 cancer operations in the last couple of years or so, I'm certainly not having a go at the NHS, they do incredible work. However based on my experience, and those I've shared cancer wards with, I'd imagine the frequency of NHS patients going from an anomaly being spotted to non-surgical treatment commencing within a 2-week period would be pretty low.

If, post-treatment, Charles could see his way to diverting his state funding to the kind of cancer research that may end up extending his time on the throne, that'd be swell.

So if they found it during a prostate surgery so its likely Bowel or Bladder cancer. Dont wish the guy any harm, but if he dies wouldnt this be a time to ask if we actually want a monarchy?

Bladder cancer certainly a possibility. I also wonder about a haematological malignancy like a lymphoma/leukaemia that was picked up on his pre-op blood tests. Would fit with him "starting treatment" so soon.

I wonder how many people using the NHS would go from an anomaly being spotted in (I assume) pre-op bloods, via diagnosis of cancer, to commencing non-surgical treatment, all within a couple of weeks? 🤔

  3. Just finished a 3-day binge watch of Miners Strike 1984: The Battle For Britain on Channel 4. Really good doc - pretty well balanced but thoroughly fucking depressing at the same time (particularly the Battle of Orgreave episode), and a great reminder to all those who think Maggie wasn't as bad as people remember that she was that she was a hateful human being.

Also, how rotten to the core were South Yorkshire Police in the 80's?

Got a deal through work for those for £45? But didnt know if it was better to pay £60 for the new course? Think the castle is closed?

You'd probably get a 4-ball at Drumoig for the cost of a single at the New/Jubilee, and you wouldn't be playing off mats.

Castle usually opens early March, but play at all the Links Trust courses will be off mats until the end of March. Unless you avoid the Ranger, obvs...

  5. The only heartening thing from the programme was the genuine disgust of the Standards team, and indeed the Federation bloke, at some of these officers' behaviour.

Also, how thick do you have to be to behave like a complete cretin while wearing a body camera, then joke about how the footage is going to look on the same body camera???

  6. Part of the attraction of Reacher in the books is, beyond the normal suspension of belief required for most "action thrillers", there didn't seem to be anything overly unbelievable - most (while obviously not all) plot devices fell within the realms of possibility, and entirely pretty much all are within character. I suspect that's one of the reasons why the books are so popular.

At no stage while reading the books did I find myself laughing out loud at the action scenes, but the "laughs due to ridiculousness" count during Season 2 was off the chart, particularly during the season finale. I'm not sure I'll be back for Season 3, tbh.

Nick Dunlap holds on to win the Amex by 1 shot, he'll jump over 4000 places on the OWGR to an estimated 68th.

And if he didn't already have sponsors lined up to sign him following his amateur success, they'll be queuing round the block now.

Wonder how long it'll be before he turns pro? His win will get him a couple of exemptions that he already had with his US Amateur win (including the Masters), but it might be kinda nice to see someone of his obvious talent hang back a bit before joining the Pro ranks.

What are we all looking forward to or aiming to achieve this golfing year?

I managed to get down to an all-time low of 4.9 at the beginning of August, but major surgery meant I didn't swing a club again last year until the morning of my wedding in late October - I'd be delighted if I managed to stick around 5 this season (Category 1 in old money still sounds good to me! 😁), but I'd probably accept holding on to 6.0 or thereabouts as I reckon I've lost at least 15 yards off the tee.

I've never been a practiser as I get bored too easily if there's nothing on the line (even if it's just playing for a quid with my mates), but I do need to sort out accuracy from 150-yards in. My long and short games are pretty solid, but I reckon I miss more greens with an 8- or 9-iron than I do with a fairway wood or hybrid, which is just ridiculous, so I should maybe get myself sorted with a lesson at some stage (it might sound weird to say, but I've been playing golf for 45 years and have never had a lesson from a qualified pro - just my dad when I was learning the game).

  9. Maybe have a wee peek at the Srixon ZX woods, too - I have the 3, 5 and hybrid, and they play (and look) the part. I struggled for years to hit a 3-wood off the deck with any kind of consistency, but the ZX comes out lovely the vast majority of the time.

  10. The only thing I find off-putting is Reacher's stride length - for such a behemoth he takes teeny-tiny steps rather than eating up the ground. I'm finding it increasingly hard to ignore 😆

    Thoughts ?

It won't make any difference is my first thought

I don't mind them reducing the distance for the pros, etc, but it's a joke that they don't have the, erm, balls to only enforce the change for elite amateurs upwards.

The main impact for the majority of us hackers will be more expensive golf balls having to be purchased ahead of an arbitrary date of enforcement that will make hee-haw difference to our 'golfing experience'.

  12. Played my first full 18 holes since early August yesterday following an enforced absence - delighted with the way I was hitting the ball (although I've lost a wee bit of distance, probably a full club's worth), and the putter was red-hot.

Usual caveats of front tees and off mats, but a gross 72 (+3) was way beyond my expectations.

BTW, for keen winter golfers (and you had to be yesterday!), the greens at Tulliallan are in fantastic condition - parts of the course are understandably squelchy, but the greens were running superbly well, and pretty quick for mid-November.

  13. Over on the DP Tour Qualifying School in Spain, only 2 Scots have made the 72-hole cut to play in rounds 5 and 6 for one of 25 full Tour cards.

Marc Warren seemed odds-on to miss out before hitting -7 for his last 8 holes (he shot 29 for his back 9 with a bogey at the 1st hole (his 10th)) to sneak in with a shot to spare. Some cojones, but he's still 4 shots behind the current number required to regain his Card.

Better placed is Kingsbarns pro Daniel Young, who at -9 is one off the mark as it stands.

5 other Scots failed to make the last 2 rounds, as did the likes of Alvaro Quiros, Gregory Havret and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.
