  1. Watched both Atonement (7/10) and Superbad (6.5/10) last night. Atonement was decent. It's a great looking film and unusually structured, but in many ways it reminds me of an old movie and not just because of the period in which it was set. Loads of clever wee touches in it as well. Superbad had tons of laugh out loud moments, but they don't come fast and furious enough and it's too long (they could have cut about 30 mins from the film). The first two thirds of the film are really good, but the last third drags and it seems like the director can't come to a decent conclusion.
  2. When did it change to a maximum of 15 minors? 32 seems awfy high.
  3. When did you pass? 1936? If you fail the theory you should be taken out the back and put down like a dog with bad tumours. Mind you, I failed my practical test about 74 times, I think. The knowledge of getting full marks in the theory provided scant solace.
  4. I just read that...Pretty good, better than all his science fiction/supernatural nonsense. The ending was a bit anti-climatic for me.
  5. Knocked Up 9/10 Just a sweet, funny, likeable, feelgood film. It's best in the first hour or so; there's a LOL moment every minute, however it dips a bit 3/4 in. The ending is as touching and heartwarming as any other film I've and it doesn't resort to sickly, insincere sentimentality.
  6. I watched the animated version from a few years back 'starring' the voice of Kate Winslet. FUCKING PISH. 0/10 The animation is SHIT, the voices are SHIT and for some reason,( I imagine to make it more child-friendly) they added in a pair of cheeky cartoon mice which totally distract from the story. I also deem those mice SHIT. It's a classic tale of redemption and the bit when Scrooge realises the error of his ways and gets Christmas in his heart is meant to be this amazing joyful scene. However, in this version, it's totally dragged out and anti-climatic. SHIT
  7. Watched This Is England last night. I thought it was excellent, if a little simplistic. The attention to detail and the little bits of natural dialogue were tremendous 9/10
  8. The Fog ..... fine - genuinely quite creepy in places and the soundtrack is great, like a Boards Of Canada album or something. 7/10
  9. I LOVE Christmas! Even things like the old films on TV at Christmas - I love all that!
  10. Indiana Jones and The Raiders Of the Lost Ark ...10/10 they don't make 'em like they used to.
  11. Short Circuit 7/10 ludicrous, 80s-tastic, family fun. A bit too much wanton bad language for my liking. Loads of seemingly innocent films made then have this problem. 'f**k' this and 'p***k' that - absolutely no need.
  12. Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix. 8/10 A surprisingly stylish film. Brilliantly made and the main actors are getting better in every film. The supporting cast of schoolkids are appalling though. I thought the book was pretty dull (sort of a transitional year) but this was the most enjpoyable of the Harry Potter movies so far. It's like a supernatural Goonies with a dash of teenage angst and elements of (don't laugh) Requiem For a Dream. Excellent.
  13. I am just so fucking gutted at the result tonight... I can't believe Alesha's out the X Factor
  14. Watched two classics in the last couple of days. Gone With The Wind - Never seen it before...it's okay, suprisingly fast-paced despite it being a 3hr epic. Considering how long ago it was filmed the quality is amazing. 7/10 Home Alone -10/10.... a flawless film
  15. She has an actual genuine degree in English. She's still a tactless fucking moron, likes.
  16. Die Hard 4.0 AMAZING! 10/10 It's everything you'd want form a blockbuster action film - ridiculous stunts, ludicrous plot, stereotypical baddies...YES!YES!YES! The bit where he blows up a helicopter with his car is the best bit
  17. Spiderman 3 - Bit of a mess really. Not terrible, but they tried to cram too much in and was all over the place. Not a patch on the first two. 5/10
  18. Robert Crais is a good bet. John Sandford's 'Prey' series is in a similar vein, too.
  19. I saw 'Marnie' tonight. A bit odd. Kind of in the same vein as that other Hitchcock classic Vertigo. Sean Connery comes across as a right c**t in it, but I think he's actually meant to be kind and caring . Kind of representative of the time it was made, I suppose. 6/10
