  1. Connelly has potential. Looked really good for us and reminded me of a young liam buchanan. Get him out on loan to build up match sharpness as after being out for so long I doubt he would be ready to play at a standard he is capable of in league 2 currently.

Send him to the Haws for 6 months.

    New signing Ian Black

Exactly. To me this is nothing new and I am at a complete loss how absolutely no one at the club would have known this.

I thought the chairman's end of season review was brilliant on the website but when you comment on a "significant increase" in the players budget Cowden ain't just going to pass Swann over for free either.

I hope it works out for Swann somehow and he doesn't just rot away on Cowden's bench next season but I don't see the alternative just now if there is no higher level teams interested in him.

He wont rot away. I think he will simply be a player on the bench. He can play 2 positions and is all left sided. He did get game time last year so its not like he is completely out in the cold.

Has pre-season to earn his place.

Because that is what the rules dictate, surely. Why did Aberdeen pay Hamilton a fee for Ferguson when they could have waited a couple of weeks till his contact expires and get him for free?

It is a development fee, we are due it if he signs for a club regardless of whether he is under contact or not. In reality NO ONE can sign for another club while under contract at another club,

Which is why its even funnier Stenny didnt know this. Complete trumpets. Even my grandad would know this rule.

I received a few programmes recently, including a Hibs-Dunfermline one from the early 90s. On the Pars page its signed by former (albeit briefly) Cowden boss Bert Paton and Norrie McCathie, who I noticed also started out with Cowdenbeath.

Does anyone have any memories of him, either playing for the Dumb-vermin v the Cows, or previously with Cowden... and does anyone know if his death was deemed to be accidental or suicide?

was accidental. Im sure a lady died also?

This is very embarrassing for the club. We are stating that we have a bigger budget than last year and we made a few bob from the cup ties so there is obviously money there.  What we do not know is the extent of compensation that Cowdenbeath want and until that figure is known (but unlikely as it will probably not be made public) it is very hard to comment.    Surely someone must have checked if compenation was due prior to signing.

I also fear what this will do to attracting other players to the club. Any other left back that comes in knows he was not first choice for the role.

Its part time football pal. I dont think players will give a flying hoot that they werent first choice to come in..

As for the compensation. I dont know figures and we are within our rights not to let that figure out in public domain. I would grasp we were pushing for £15-20k with negotiation probably not letting him go for less than £10k

Perhaps steep but ball is in our court really unless they take it to tribunal - not sure the laws of this to be honest - im thinking Lewis Ferguson e.g aberdeen/hamilton. Aberdeen won in the end going to tribunal im pretty sure.

Even though he wasnt a regular last year I find that kinda irrelevant. Bollan could leave within 10 games and he is back being a key player for us with someone else. Its football - it happens. The club supported Harvey from a young age. He has developed well even under Bollan his defensive side isnt as bad as some folk are saying it got way better under Bollan. He is just not aggressive or high tempo enough I dont think for Bollan.

At present can confirm 1 signing to be announced on 11/12 June.  Jason Talbot is still awaiting an op and expected he will hang up his boots.  It is interesting to see how things such as transfers windows, Bosman and minimum wage impact on things.  Most players now will have 52 week contracts -June to June.  Thus Swann, McGurn, loanees, etc are still Cowden players at present.  Players are not released nowadays - they leave on expiry of their contracts unless a release is mutually agreed (with some sort of deal being done re cash quite often).  You cant therefore sign most players until next window opens in a week or so.  Until not so long ago, some part time teams didn't pay any wages until the first Competitive game often just before the end of July.  Now players are paid from day they sign (hence there is actually a financially benefit to have signings just before the first game rather than just when the window opens - although we budget all players for a 52 week contract).   You also need to ensure players have full holiday leave in their contract period.  That has pushed players wages up in L2 and the trapdoor has also boosted them further.  There are no £10/£50 a week players now!

Dave just wait until first game of season save us a whack..

Saying that players wont be daft and this is why certain players want clubs to act quickly and pay them now...

Pish new rules if you ask me. I dont think part time players should ever have a 52 week contract especially since say 75% of them earn a wage in another job. But hey thats life now

  7. Always said that although hes not standout in our team Gary Fraser could easily play at higher level and with the right team could be really good. I dont see him a premiership player but at someone like QOTS or even a Dunfermline he could do ok.

Malcolm is a good signing again purely from point of view of he was getting better towards  end of season and can play numerous positions which is what you need in a lower league team.

3 Signings Im assuming will be done on 11th June?

  8. Big Loss Mcgurn is. Not only one of the best lower league keepers he was a voice and experienced and that is vital in a team like ours. Loads of gks about but dont think we would find one as good as Mcgurn initially. Priority in our signings will of course be 2 goalkeepers (imagine one may become a loan), a left back and a striker should Jordan Allan move on.

Another centre mid for sure also. I always find our best signings come during the season or halfway through anyway.

We have a good core of players signed up already. All know what its like to play under bollan and his style that is a plus.

  9. Absolute dream draw for us.... 2 big teams with good gates. A home derby against east fife (or away of course) and a game against one of the league challengers. All local for fans no travelling to peterhead or caley or ross county etc.. Expenses for clubs a lot less due to these games being close as well.

Dream draw. Progressing unlikely but you are always up against it.

Rather play hearts than st johnstone for example.

    Whens the fixtures sorted...

Money wise the club will do ok out of it im sure compared to some other draws we could have got.

I'm sure Cowden Cowboy could clear up anything regarding compo due.

The reality is we will probably send you over some bibs and a few really nice Mitre baws and that will cover it.

The reality is the club should take it to tribunal 100%. Put a lot of faith and money into growing harvey as a player and was on apprenticeship with us im sure.

Good lad and good player. Will do well at Stenny.

I imagine a fee of around £5-7k would be what we are after...

  11. sad to see swann move on. Potential and a lad that came through which is actually rare nowadays for cowden where as in the past we were fortunate to have a decent % of our first team being made up of  players coming through.

    eg. brett/linton/robertson/miller etc.

Nowadays we have cammy muirhead who I doubt will stay at the club. Young lad who has been on the bench a few times whos name escapes me.kyle something??

Also ryan connelly who was a great prospect and looked excellent however a really serious injury has obviously put things backwards just now for him. A loan spell playing regular football at the right team would do him good. Even east of scotland to get his confidence up rather than lowland league which is far tougher environment.

Swann didnt work hard enough at times and perhaps didnt stick to bollans way tactics or way of defending etc. It happens in football sad but true.

He will be a good signing for stenny no doubt.

  12. Mcgregor was unbelievable for us and gave the best centre half showing up at brechin one day ive ever seen.

    For me Mcgregor and chopper.

Always had great centre backs. Big joe was immense. Loved big John Ward. Davie white was excellent too. Innes was a leader and a great fit for us at that time but not as good as a mcgregor or chopper.

Out in edinburgh yesterday, bumped into Kris Renton, had a quick drink with him. Good lad.

then later bumped into Chris Kane and had a chat. Leaving East Fife, would be a good centre half for us!

Read Luc Bollan released by Dundee Utd, no idea if he would return to us but would be a good signing.

BTW im no even lying I total forgot we bumped into Chris - we were all mortal though so its all good. You offered £200 a week to him did you no.? take a zero aff.....

    Big rents a great lad.

Would take bollan - raw and young and will learn and get better kind of signing cowden used to make and improve players.
