Started it 4 days ago. Struggled a little with Andorra on the first one. The last three have been shoe-ins for myself. In saying that Timor-Leste is close by for me (and a little topical) and I have worked in and spent enough time in Hong Kong to recognise it instantly.
Today, was part of it being a ‘topical country’ in more recent years and maybe just getting my head in to the way they are selecting these countries.
I’ll come unstuck, guaranteed tomorrow now, but enjoying this and a shame it will be short lived once they have exhausted the more obscure and lesser countries.

In Bahasa Indonesian doubling words to pluralise or change the meaning is common, so doesn’t seem as bizarre as ‘East-East’ would be for us.

Luckily in a good coffee region, although the local coffee versions are nothing to write home about.
Ca phe Su da made with a phin and with a good Vietnamese coffee. Got a few phins in the house and easy to make.
Having a Sumatran wife, got to love the Indonesian coffees particularly from Sumatra.
Kopi Luwak is a very good, if not expensive coffee.

Speak to a few people that were close (family/friends/ex-colleagues/social) and get a few anecdotes that covers each part of your mums life and add one from yourself. Base what every you say around these anecdotes then fill out with some general information about your mum.
You won’t be far off and save falling in to traps about only speaking about her from your perspective and avoiding the impersonal bullshit that comes from someone who didn’t really know her.

Indonesia do try and play some good football but Thailand are considerbly a stronger team.

Getting a little less random now. Semi final second leg of the AFF Suzuki cup. Indonesia once again make hard work of things, this time against hosts Singapore.
First leg finished 1-1 (also went to that) and won this one 4-2 after extra time.
Indonesia were winning 1-0. Singapore go down to 10 men then immediately equalise.
Singapore then go down to 9 men in 67 minutes, then take the lead with 15 minutes to go.
Indonesia draw level with three minutes to go. Then in added time Singapore get a penalty which is saved and Indonesia have two solid chances to clinch it.
Indonesia then score in the first minute of extra time, then add another at the start of the second half of ET.
The Singaporean keeper gets a straight red near the end to leave them with 8 men.
Not the best quality but highly entertaining game and a first match on Christmas day I have attended.
Indonesia will most likely play Thailand in the final, who should comfortably beat them.
However, when you consider 23 of the 30 man squad of Indonesia is under 26 (13 under 22) and are coached by the ex-South Korean Manager from the 2018 WC. They may have a good few years ahead of them.

Last group game of the AFF cup. Malaysia v Indonesia. Indonesia win 4-1, winning their group and setting up a semi final with Singapore. (Thailand v Vietnam in the other semi).
Average fair that Indonesia initially made hard work of.
Satisfying result with a semi final on Christmas day and a final on New years day.

You must have been a heavy sleeper. I was staying the opposite end of Larkhall and our house shook. Funnily not much of a noise though. Never gave it another thought until it was reported later.

Pacman and Sara seem the logical leaders in the race, but not because of political talent.
Surely as things get closer the usual muck slinging and shenanigans will begin.
A lot will depend on how dirty some of the candidates get and with her recent awards, Maria Ressa will have her say/part to play.

Generally stay away from this area as well. However, this will be some real shits and giggles. At the last election I was still living there and six people were murdered in a gun battle at my local polling station.
With two former police chiefs having their hat in the ring (on fighting corruption tickets mmmm). Manny Pacquiao and surely Dutertes daughter diving in later it is going to be interesting.
I doubt it will have major interest or pulling power on the forum outside a few and the SEAPB masses.
I would reckon it will be Pacquiao or Sara Duterte. Depends how much money and tshirts are on offer for votes.

Done the same in Hong Kong 2009. Watched from Kowloon and was staying around Northpoint. The queue for the ferries going back was crazy.
First year in Singapore ventured down to the bay for a 10 minute fire display. Absolutely heaving. Was not fun heading home. Like you, never again.

Philippines was a riot when I lived there. Absolutetly everyone were setting of highly suspect fireworks without a care in the world. Fireworks bouncing off of houses, cars, trikes and buses. Small fires breaking out and everyone pissed up on Emperador and Red Horse.
It was some experience.
Any celebration In Hong Kong that involved fireworks was a laugh with everyone 'wooooh' at the same time, for every firework as if it was the first they had seen.
Budapest was always a good night, but because of the crowd at the time.
Here, it's pretty boring and in Vietnam, China and Indonesia pretty low key as it's not an important/key time.

I was in a meeting in Birmingham when someone put their head around the door to say a plane had flown into the twin towers. Everyone just shrugged and we got on with the meeting.
Straight after the meeting I was driving down to London for a defence exhibition at the docklands then meant to be flying home from London city airport. It was only in the car, listening to the radio,did I realise the extent of things.
The exhibition was obviously cancelled for security reasons and I drove to our HQ in East Sussex instead and had a decent evening getting pissed with no work the next day.
The company put a blanket no fly on everyone and I had to kick my heels another day before being allowed to fly home from Bristol.
We had UK staff stuck in the US for weeks after.
Being involved in the defence industry at the time, the next few years were very interesting.

Any business pays for banking services as mentioned above, it is a part of business and how much comes down to how creative you can be to reduce it. The easiest solution is to pass it on to the customer in part or full.
Here (Singapore), is virtually cashless with various forms of contactless payment and it hasn’t had such an impact on the eldery/poor (cannot comment on homeless), although I am sure some will have problems.
Although the drive for being contactless as well as other smart/new technologies is driven as much by the government as the private sector, which maybe wouldn’t be as smooth in the UK.
In countries like Indonesia and Philippines, where many people just don’t have bank accounts, cashless is also popular with companies providing mobile wallets/cashless possibilities. Of course cash will remain king in these places for a long time, but cashless is not a hinderance and people of all ages are embracing it.
