    What's happening with Robinson?

It appears at present he is quite content to sit around for a year getting paid because some moron gave him a 2 year deal on the basis of what he did 4 years ago ignoring the large amount of nothing he did in between spells as well as already having 2 goalkeepers signed up for that season.

  2. Of all of Jesus's miracles, not even walking on water comes close to Dobbie carrying this current bunch of jabronis to safe nourishing mediocrity.

The League Cup groups aren't necessarily a guarantee of things to come, Alex Rae's St Mirren got 9 points, Raith Rovers did well, Falkirk got beat  by Stirling Albion and Dumbarton were abject. It's pretty clear what needs sorted and surely Naysmith is able to see that with the main issue being that we aren't able to play on the front foot with such a slow attack and technically limited midfield, this isn't a new issue so whether he does anything about it remains to be seen.

When's the commemorative 'League Cup Group G unbeaten season' scarf coming  out.

Well there is league 2 Peterhead just beat Hearts. Looks like they are getting relegated this year. emoji57.png

Hamilton got beat by Albion Rovers on pens, so they are obviously getting relegated this year......

Well, I mean they can technically both get relegated what with their shit managers, mediocre squads and two possible relegation spots. Good observation m8.

  4. Rankin was exactly what we needed at the time  but his drop off in form in 6 months has been so quick, especially as there hasn't been any major injuries that we've been made aware of IIRC. There is a sense that he'll be packed off to the glue factory fairly soon and he looked so off the pace on Tuesday that you have to wonder whether he knows that his time is almost up.

  5. The football in the second half of fowler is the same as it is now. One paced, not especially wide , full backs who can't defend and not a mobile central midfield player in sight. He spent his second season moaning about losing all his good players when he signed over the hill dross like Ryan Conroy and Paul Heffernan. Let's not romanticise the difficult second  season.

For whatever reason a lot of people didn't take to Naysmith from day one.  It's all very puzzling to me.  Gavin Skelton went an entire quarter of a season without a single victory yet didn't receive anything like the level of criticism that our current manager is receiving for going unbeaten in two games.

We haven't conceded a goal in 164 minutes. Take that haters.

There's absolutely no doubt though that all his highlight reel stuff at first team level came in 2 or 3 games against Rangers for whatever reason, none of which he started.

Could it be largely down to a bombscare Rangers defence playing with a very high line which near enough nobody else does at this level, coupled with 2/3 games being over when he came on? He had some opportunities under Fowler but didn't take them IMO. It's one thing to play well when the team are already dead and buried against Rangers but a real sign is doing it in meaningful games against Dumbarton or Livingston. He is largely in the same situation as Patrick Slattery was in that he wasn't ever going to be a regular for Queens but definitely has a good chance of starting at the bottom and working your way up if his attitude is right. Chapman leaving Annan is probably good news for Queens if they are more locally based for loan moves.

It seems the way to our supporters hearts is to not play very often for us.  There is a reason that Aidan Smith and Connor Murray have seen limited playing time, yet they have been built up to legendary status among some.  Then you have Lyndon Dykes who has played far more, and contributed far more to the first team who is roundly criticised.

Is it just because a player is seen as being favoured by a manager that the Queen's fans take a disliking to for whatever reason or a factor being seen as an outsider to the more local players (By that I mean outwith D&G/Carlisle, not simply foreign). If Dykes was born in Dumfries and grew up with a lot of Queens fans he wouldn't be given as much stick as more people would want him to do well because they know him personally. It's a bit unfair but it's human nature I suppose.

A classic example is Ian McShane, who got an undeservedly hard time despite the fact he was the main creative force in central midfield and came back from a very serious hip injury but because he was seen as the pet project of McIntyre that he got pelters when he didn't play well whereas Reilly/Danny/Holt could probably give a child a Stone Cold Stunner and get applauded for it. Once people get in their heads that they don't rate you it is hard for them to shake it unless you play really, really well.

Binning Robinson can only be a good thing, he was a complete liability last season and towards the end had turned into a complete parody of himself.  It was actually embarrassing that he was a member of the coaching staff.

I can't help feeling that his erratic behaviour was a huge factor in our defensive shakiness.  You always hear defenders comment about the confidence playing in front of a solid goalkeeper instills in them.  Presumably the opposite is also true.

Robinson has always been an inconsistent performer, whereas the same can't really be said for Dowie and Higgins who have been solid throughout their time with us.  Given the youthful look to our defence this coming season, I'm starting to think that getting rid of both of them was a mistake.  I would have been inclined to have kept one, probably Dowie, to provide backup and much needed experience.

I tend to agree with keeping one of them, even if it had grown stale and mistakes started creeping for the both of them. Whether that is the result of Father Time, the lack of a consistent goalkeeper or not getting a regular run as a defensive pairing for various reasons. They aren't scrubs by any stretch

I think both players are probably in better situations now at this point in their careers where they are the clear starter whereas if they stayed they'd be rotating all the time or not playing. It's a vote of confidence in Brownlie, I'm not going to pretend like I think that is the right person to trust, but he isn't a youngster anymore  with 3 years experience at this level for us and Cowdenbeath and perhaps playing with someone of a similar age like Fordyce could develop better chemistry than Dowie or Higgins. It's a massive season for him next year.

Incidentally seeing as you bring it up, Turner field is going to change again after the Atlanta Braves have moved closer to the suburbs/white people and become a 22,000 seat American Football stadium at the college level.  Safe to say it's going to look rather odd

What's your views on Alex Harris? We are also rumoured to be signing him. Would you welcome him back to Queens?

He's a strange player, definitely has some quality about him and added some much needed width. However, a lot of the time he looks utterly bereft of any confidence and you can tell from the first time he gets on the ball whether he's going to have a good game or not. I wouldn't object to him coming back but he doesn't feel like someone that you would want to depend on if the going was getting tough.

The good thing about this draw is that they are presumably a shite football team compared to the Macedonian or Bosnian champions.

I mean they were thoroughly outplayed by a Queen of the South side that weren't going to win a league game for the next 3 months along with conceding 7 to last season's Rangers team. So yeah they aren't very good.

  12. You wonder how many other buildings have that cladding currently, not just apartment blocks but all sorts of public buildings that have been done on the cheap. Hopefully some action against those responsible happens but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. Probably a prime opportunity to dump the survivors in some dreary satellite town out of the way.

it serves as a sad reminder to various Neoliberal types who think that we don't need the state interfering by creating rules for businesses. Regulations should be there to prevent greedy developers from cutting corners and it really shouldn't have to take scores of people getting charred in their flats for people to realise this.

Theresa May is having another nightmare.
She's standing chatting to firefighters not giving a single f**k while Corbyn is out meeting residents.

Good opportunity to congratulate them on doing more with less.

  13. Scotland bounce back from a horrible defeat to Namibia on Tuesday to get their first official win against a test playing side as they beat Zimbabwe by 26 runs via D/L at the Grange. Their first win in 24 attempts against Full Member sides.

They play again on the Saturday if P&B's cricket community have a free Saturday in Edinburgh.

***Disclaimer:  I don't want anyone thinking I'm sticking up for the hatchet faced c**t***

The PM is stuck in a no win situation here.  Don't go and she looks like a c**t.  Go and speak to the local residents, and she'll get torn to bits and look like a c**t.  Go but don't speak to any of the proles, she'll look like a c**t.

    Luckily, we all know she's a c**t.

You are absolutely right, It's obviously a context that none of us will probably ever end up in but I'm sure going along and be seen to be listening, meet some firefighters, residents and ambulance privately or publcally in order to try to right some of the wrongs. Imo it is preferable to her current strategy from the election and beyond to avoid speaking to people. It is just letting people rumble on about multiple institutional failings and the Conservatives  voting record.

  15. Social housing is inherently political in every single way. Not to mention cuts to fire services, gentrifying neighbourhoods, cost of living and regulations on landlords. The residents criticising various institutions before and after the fire after  Ignoring multiple failings made it political rather than a load of blokes on P&B and twitter.

Theresa May apparently visited the tower and didn't speak to anyone. The lack of basic compassion or acting in the interests of everyone Is exactly why they are depending on a bunch of religious mentalists to say in power.

  16. There's been a lot worse players than Harkins that have bounced back from a disappointing season at this level but i'm not sure where he fits in this Morton team. They've already got one perfectly good creative midfield player that isn't very mobile in Ross Forbes so could be interesting to see if they are able to play together. That being said they are going to be ridiculous from both sides on set pieces now.

Anderson and Baird werent bad signings. Both were unlucky to pick up injuries which in Bairds case kept him out of the team and in Andersons seemed to knock his confidence. Under different circumstances both could have been really good players for us.

They were on paper solid signings that failed to live up to the expectations and were gone by January so these injury affected spells plays very well into the Raith to Queens curse narrative.

None of the last 5 signings lasted more than a season. Putting it on par with the Watford Manager or the Hogwarts Defence against the Dark Art teacher as a poor career choice.

  18. I have a couple of concerns if we were to go for him...

Firstly - there is the makings of a curse with players signed from Raith Rovers. The current streak of terrible signings off the top of my head goes Grant Anderson, Ryan Conroy, John Baird, Stephen Simmons and Mark Campbell (Further examples welcome). The watering hole isn't just poisoned, it's Flint Michigan mixed with Chernobyl levels of contaminated.

Secondly - He hasn't scored a goal since October,  Joey Barton was still at Rangers, Donald Trump was an outsider candidate, Raith Rovers were in 3rd place in the Championship. The impact of a single season with Gary Locke can not be emphasised how detrimental that could be.

If you can see beyond those massive red flags then he's a good signing to rotate with Lyle. If I were to rate it with 1 being the reanimated corpse of Stephen Simmons and 10 being Dan Orsi, i'd give the move a six and a half
